I agree with you Kaylen. Whenever I make a post it often takes about 12 hours before the next response.

Dump the Awake completely
by stillajwexelder inmetatron suggested on a recently started thread the wtbts may dump the awake completely.
i personally think this would be too much for them - however, i predict the bound volume will be just one in 2007 - the wt/awake for 2006 combined -certainly would save some money.
also may eventaully go cd-rom only.. agreed?

i am a bit surprised they dropped the semimonthly issue. I thought the only reason anyone ever took the Watchtower was because they wanted the Awake that came with it. I doubt many people read the Watchtower articles, it is only the general interest Awake articles that most non JW's would have read anyway.
I wonder if the number of Watchtowers printed will drop without its partner Awakes being printed. -

Jesus was a liar.
by nicolaou infirstly, it is not my intention here to offend anyone so if you are likely to get upset at reading 'blasphemous' statements or criticism of jesus then perhaps you should go to another topic.
also, i am not in the habit of making personal attacks on other posters, if you decide to stay and read this - don't attack me!
by all means rip my post to pieces and explain where i got it all wrong, but don't shoot the messenger.. and remember, i come from the same place as most of you, i was one of jehovah's witnesses for over thirty years.

Good point BB.
Thinking about it I am not sure that there is anything too deluded about being called Christ though. It just means to be annointed. As Jesus is supposed to have said, many others were also calling themselves Christ. This alone may have been enough for him to be tried, if he was causing political problems.
It is the other statements attributed to him, that he alone is the way to everlasting life and claiming virtual equality with God that enters a realm of being extra ordinary. My point is that maybe he did not go that far, it was only his followers in later times that went this far in there persecuted religious fervour.
It is similar for Buddhism and Islam. Mostly the Holy works was written afterwards by followers and quite possibly are not an accurate representation of how they really thought of themselves, or what they taught. -

a Christian
The problem I have with the statement
"many of the other words of Scripture which He inspired, such as the words of Daniel 9:24-27, were often presented in a way that would provide important spiritual truths to some people while at the same time withholding these truths from other people. "
is that this is then used to explain why one form of Christianity is better than the next form. I am used to JWs using the argument that all Christians are wrong and only they are right, because only JW's are sincerely looking for truth and only they have good hearts.
If a person can not find a form of truth by doing as honest an examination of the facts in front of them as they personally can do it does not seem very fair. More people do not have access to the bible than do, and so will never believe in the Messiah. It seems unreasonable to think that they have no chance for everlasting life because of where they were born. -

They are outrageous claims if Jesus was not the heavenly son of God.
One thing that you did not seem to include is that maybe Jesus never did or said all the things that were attributed to him.
The gospels were written years, even decades after Jesus death. In the time between when Jesus died and the Gospels were written his early followers had spent great effort going through the OT looking for parallel prophecies that the Messiah was supposed to fulfil, in an attempt to prove the Jesus was the one predicted to come.
It is quite possible that the Gospel writers, over the years that passed, embellished what Jesus actually said and did.
It is similar to how the Proclaimers Book recalls the WTS history, even though much of it happened only a few decades ago and is still easy to find out the reality. There is a general avoidance or gloss over of embarrasing moments, and still the statements that God was personally directing the Organisation, despite failed time prophecy to show otherwise. -

I had CO's of all sorts, some were great, some shocking, some boring.
I have some very close relatives that are on the Circuit, and they are really nice people. The amount of money that they get depends on which circuit they are on, the rich areas can give them hundreds of dollars a week, from other areas they dont get money for weeks.
I have discussed the wrongs with the truth with them many times and asked how they can devote their lives to it when they know it is all a bit suspect. They feel they are really helping people and choose to emphasis the areas of being a JW that are beneficial to peoples lives (though we often disagree on what those areas are).
I have been pushing them to try to get changes made to the rules on being disfellowshipped, but they don't think being CO's holds much weight. They look on bethelites as having more power within the organisation than them. -

I always felt that most of the bible prophecy amounted to nothing, particularly considering that the OT was probably not finalised until the time of the Septuagint in around 300BC, though I have seen written that Daniel was still being changed in the Septuagint until 160BC.
This made me feel that the JW interpretation of the 70 weeks of years was the only prophecy that was truly prophetic. My JW mother said the other day that since the WTS calculates the 70 weeks and 7 times with the same methodology proves 1914 was the time of the end. (Since the 70 weeks came true so did the 7x). Therefore i am intrigued by this thread and would love to know more detail on what the prophecy really meant.
Does anyone know any links to any other sites or books that go into any more detail on other explainations. Leolaia's explaination is great, but i would love some links to the source material. -

The principle of Messenger, Yahoo and the free version of Skype are similar, though Skype is designed to look and feel more like a phone.
The free version of Skype only allows computer to computer calls.
If you buy Skype credit you can call from your computer to anyones phone, the charges are usually quite a lot cheaper than a normal phone call.
You can also get a phone number so a regular phone can call you, though it does mean you need to have your computer on and connected to the internet to receive calls. It costs 30 Euro per year, so is also cheaper than a normal phone line.
I have been told it uses about 4kb per second, so less than 1MB every 4 minutes, so even the cheapest 200mb broadband accounts will allow a large number of phone calls per month.

will the earth be destroyed.
by ajie ini am a present studying the book what does the bible really teach, and am unable to counter the bit where they say the new earth is people and not the literal earth, ive pointed out scriptures that say it will be burned up e.c.t.but the guy relates it to noahs day when the earth was not literal earth that was destroyed but the wicked people,he says this is the same with the new world to come,it is the rightouse people, at the moment we agree to disagree but does anyone know a good way to counter this argument.though doing a goggle search on the subject it seems to me that christians have all sorts of veiws on the subject which only leaves me more confused.

Thanks Leolaia, that is very interesting. Its a pity you are not based in Aus, I would love to meet up and steal some of your knowledge some time.
Franz has an article about the earth at http://www.commentarypress.com/essay-lifeonearth.html He concludes that the scriptures are too vague to make any definite assertions about the long term role of the earth. -

Not in its current form, though i did like the idea that if the stay the same the JWs may become like the Amish, a group of people locked in some strange pre-internet world.
The internet has already made huge inroads into watchtower membership. In 10 years it will be dramatically moreso, something that religion is experiencing in general. Either a religion catches up with the times and changes the way it presents its beliefs and controls its members, or it becomes obsolete to the majority of its members.
I have had a number of JW friends talk to me recently about how they are getting down under all the guilt and pressure. Many tell me they dont think you have to be a JW to survive armageddon. If people are not getting joy from it, and do not see it as essential for salvation than a lot of the motivation for 10 hrs a month and 3 meetings a week disappears. This will lead to a gradual decline in JW statistics.
