As I was reading your comment there was a banner of Satan at the bottom of my screen. Yes, between smoking Satan and all the other difficult things being a Sacred Secret a religion can make up any baloney it wants.
like most people reading this, i was convinced that by 2014 the new system would 'definitely' have been operating for at least a decade.
now that i know this is not going to be the case i am going to have to think of some way to recognise 100 years of wts let downs and failed predictions.
there is no point fretting over the past so i think it will be a good time to celebrate.
A big block party out side Brooklyn could be good. How about a few hundred exBrothers dressing up in white sheets and standing on Pennsylvania bridge? I'm sure that would get some news coverage and a few people thinking. Wow, 100 years and still people will be thinking the JW-only new system is just about to happen.

Welcome. I also agree that JW's are a dangerous religion and not worth the trouble. There are better ways to discover spirituality.
Just a note on some of the comments. The majority of Jehovah's Witnessses are not aware of all the crackpot rules of the religion. For instance, most would play chess these days without any knowledge that it is advised against.
However, the more damaging beliefs and the ones that still exist. No Blood, shunning of family that leave the WTS, belief that planning for the future is pointless, belief that all non JWs are on the side of Satan. The religion is really a wolf dressed in sheeps clothing.

i was wondering if anyone has applied the criteria that identifies a cult to first century christianity, as described in the bible, and historical records from the first three centuries.
have any of you run across a discussion like that while reading books on cults, hopefully by an author that is either supportive of, or tolerant of christianity?.

A delusion held by one person is a mental illness, held by a few is a cult, held by many is a religion.
By this definition it was a cult if Jesus was not God's son. If he was God's son then I guess it was not a delusion and so not a cult.

Your post raises many questions. Where we ever up with the times? Will we ever get there? How will we know that we are no longer in the dark ages, behind the times, enlightened?
the watchtower society explains "hades" as being "the common grave of mankind".
christendom's understanding of "hades" is, for the most part, quite different than that of the watchtower society.
the one similarity between the two beliefs is that in both cases "hades" is considered to be a literal place.. the truth of the matter is that neither the watchtower society or christendom has a correct understanding of the terms "hades".

This is an unsubstantiated excuse. Satan was supposedly busy warring with Jesus at the time, not having time to make smokescreens. Anyway, what was there to smokescreen, there is no indication to humans that Jesus is ruling for Satan to need to try to hid us from.

I left at 35, but everyone thinks I am going through my mid life crisis, so maybe I am an early bloomer.
