I reported 1 fake hour a month for a few years to stay regular up until Dec 2004, so i managed to get into the 2005 Service year report. That is the last time, the next service report will be free of me.

How Many Of You?
by justsomedude inhow many of you, when you were an active and zealous jw (assuming you were), were motivated by the paradise idea?
i was basically born in, so i wasn't drawn to the religion, it just was.. the whole idea of the paradise never really exicted me though.
i followed the religion and did what i did because i just believed it was the right thing to do and not so i could obtain the carrot on the end of the string.. how many of you felt the same way?

There has been some great comments here. I really believed it, but served just as much for God as for paradise.
I could never get my head around the fact that God made plants die and animals die, so why wouldn't we? If we were meant to live forever and not eat meat, why don't animals live forever?
And how boring to just be farmers forever. Forever is a long time, long enough to know everything, and then learn it all again, and again, and again........
Like our dear Brother Prince used to sing when I was a teen "Forever is a mighty long time, but I'm here to tell you, there is something else, the afterworld". Sounds like an apostate to me.

Interesting answers. Can you tell me a bit more about who Wnitarians are and what they believe?

Holidays: How do you refute the Exodus 32:4-10 argument
by Check_Your_Premises inthe reasoning book says that in exodus 32:4-10 that the israelites were punished for renaming an egyptian religious practice "the festival of jehovah".. they apply this to their list of arguments against christmas.
is this a very good argument?
are there any good arguments that refute it?.

I don't know if i am missing something, but i can not see how that scripture has anygthing to do with renaming an Egyptian religious festival. It was worshipping an idol of a calf, which is an entirely different matter.
Even if the date is wrong Christmas is to worship Jesus not the sun god and so has little relevance to this scripture. -

What is the best answer to give someone? Many JW's are strongly against the Trinity so find it hard to find another Christian Church to go to. What can i suggest in this case? -

Thank you everyone. I am very excited, and look on babies with a totally different light all of a sudden.
Now for the job of finding a name, we agonised for ages just over our puppies, I don't know how we will ever decide for a child. Any good ideas? -

I asked and down came the wall
by KW13 inmy aunt is a lesbian.
i am no longer a witness but i wanted to see how bulletproof jw beliefs are.. so jehovah is against homosexuals and they will be destroyed at armaggedon but with his power homosexuals can go to meetings and stop sinning, was my mums explanation....erm.... people with a different genetic make-up who can't help being what they are will be able to stop these feelings before the new order, in that case its a miracle, jehovah doesn't do miracles right now....that's something alright.
ok now how on earth are they supposed to cut off physical emotions?

The WTS tries to deny the stength of feeling homosexuals have for the same sex. Many JW's I have talked to feel it is just sexual greed and they can change if they want to. Remember that the Watchtower used to say masturbation can make a person gay. You are right, they don't have a clue.

Addition too the birthday thread. Not a DF'ING OFFENSE
by skyman inw98 10/15 p. 31 questions from readers ***
"consequently, while it is entirely a private matter if christians choose to take note of their wedding anniversary, there are good reasons why mature christians abstain from celebrating birthdays.
notice it say's mature christians.

I have never heard of a d/f for birthdays though I am sure some bodies of elders would get someone for it if they wanted.
If the elders advised against celebrating birthdays and the person refused to follow them they could be d/f on the ground of loose conduct for not showing respect for the organisational arrangements, or even apostasy for action against the "established order among his dedicated people." elders book pg 95
Your reasoning is probably right Skyman, but many elders are a law unto themselves and the poor publishers would not know any better as they do not get access to the full body of WTS legislation on disfellowshipping. -

2005 Statistics
by Jeffro in.
after having a look at the newly posted 2005 jw statistics and comparing them to those of 2004, there are some interesting trends.. 23841 fewer bible studies.. 377274 fewer at the memorial.. 14785 fewer baptized.. 4032902 fewer hours in the ministry.. also, i have estimated, based on the change in the peak publishers from 2004 to 2005 compared to the number baptized, that around 146934 were disfellowshipped, disassociated or became inactive.. sudan has started reporting as of 2005. palau is now reporting under its english name; previously it was listed under its native name belau.. most areas showing growth are poor countries and countries with only relatively recent witness presence.

Thanks,
I think using average instead of peak numbers are more of an accurate representation, and they make it look even worse, around about 175,000 went inactive or were d/f.
I was thinking about putting out a flier on JW car windows at the next DC. Something like:
In 2005 almost 200,000 Jehovah's Witnesses stopped preaching. Would you like to know what led to many of them making this choice? If ever have had any doubts about whether this is the truth please visit www.jehovahs-witness.com
