Thanks guys, this was supposed to be a serious thread of strategy, but anyway, as far as I can recall, Brits were stealing bread because they wanted to come to Australia.
Americans came from all those self righteous pilgrims, no wonder every second person over there starts their own religion.
Never heard of New Zealand - oh sorry Teela, you made a nice comment about Aus.

Tactic to bring it down, get people in.
by jwfacts ini was just eatting breakfast and thought of an idea to make the congregations less desirable to be in.
if jws can not/don't want to see through the doctrine, maybe filling the congregations with undesirables will make them think twice about going to meetings.
maybe we should do an advertising campaign to the mentally ill, tell them that meetings are filled with people longing to be their friends.. advertise to the cleptomaniacs that there are plenty of trusting people that leave their bags around.. tell young men that there are plenty of gullible virgins that still have a 1950's view of male superiority and headship.. and all they have to do to become a member is pretend to go preaching 10 hours a month for 6 months.

Why can't you just move on?
by atypical inthat's what my wife said to me the night before last.
i was making an observation about the way my family and other jws in my life are constantly trying to get me to go to a meeting or read an awake, but they never want to sit down and address the questions i have raised to them.
she then asked me why i can't just move on.

I don't have good suggestions, but just want to say that I feel for you as I am in a similar situation, and can not help but get angry every time the topic is raised. I am trying to just not raise it anymore, as it does no good. The only thing is that everytime I am in contact with a JW I feel I have to bring it up, even though I know it will do no good. I guess in time as your life is filled with other things these feelings die down.

Awake = College Education, % of brain usage, where are these?
by drew sagan ini've heard that this is somewhere in the magazines, but i have no clue where.
also, does anybody know where (or even if) the watchtower ever fed off the idea that we only use a fraction of our brains, an idea that has proven to be false?
i heard so many people talk about this in discussion, but have been unable to locate it in a publication.

My cousin said the other day that since we only use 10% of our brain it shows it was designed to live forever. !!?? Under that idea, if we can fill up 10% in 100 years, we will fill up the next 90% in a thousand years, so what happens for the rest of infinity. You can't relate a finite capacity to proof of infinity. I don't think JWs have the capability to think past the 1000 year rulership.

Do you miss the sense of Superiority?
by Dune inwell i'm slowly wrapping up my stay in jw land, but as i move further and further into the year, i've noticed that my views of the world are slowly changing.
no more am i just a watcher who feels completely aloof of the world's struggles and injustices.
i dont look at activists, philantropers and humanitarians and silently laugh to myself because i know that whatever they are doing is a waste of time (because the end is so close).. i was listening to that song by the flaming lips called "do you realize?

I don't miss it. I hated it. I could not see why I deserved to be so superior to everyone else.

questions?
by nurse ini'm a nursing student and i have to do an essay.
the case study i'm doing is of an elderly gentleman who is a jehovahs witness and i'm wondering if any of you can tell me besides refusing a blood transfusion, if there is any other beliefs that would affect medical care?
i'm not a jehovahs witness but would be very interested to hear your comments and thank you in advance!

There are not many restrictions these days apart from blood. In the past the Golden Age was filled with Medical quackery. Vacinations were banned until the 1950s and organ transplants were banned during the 1970s. This site has some of the old quotes. http://www.reexamine.org/quotes/admin-site-map.htm#medical

Interesting how they pay out the in-effectiveness of witnessing, with 200,000,000 hours only resulting in 80000 baptisms. That rate is twice of effective as these days.
It also makes note of JWs not being interested in social betterment programs. Not much has changed. -

Revelation It's Grand Climax at Hand! - bookstudy
by TheListener ini was reading e-watchman today and someone there is saying that after studying the what does the bible really teach book at bookstudies the next book will be the revelation book!!!.
there isn't any real proof, but the poster claimed a letter from bethel stated this.
perhaps some here can dig around and confirm or deny this new rumor.. we've studied it 3 times in the past and it's been awhile.

I couldnt believe it when it was studied twice in two years. I was still a devoted pioneering dub and found it absurb to think these prophecies related to conventions, and that in one scripture a day was literal and the next was figurative, so blatantly contrieved.
To restudy it the GB is taking a huge risk of it sparking peoples interest in looking to the internet for more information on the JW history. They should stick to soppy studies on how happy every JW is and how miserable to evil world is.
AuldSoul, very clever post. -

JWs and the British Museum
by M.J. inanyone been to the british museum?
i know of some jws who are planning to visit.. i wonder just how incriminating could a visit be to a jw interested in looking at babylonian artifacts?
i imagine that nothing really jumps out at you relating to jw chronology.

When I went I didn't know enough about both sides of the story. I was amazed at all the history and how the Watchtower had taught me so much about it.
