Donuthole, you make a great point that I have not thought of before. These days, financial viability is more important than growth. The doctrine do not lend themselves to a long term outlook. Major changes are required that would lead to many people leaving. However, that is what the religion needs. Provided they can keep onto the assets, they can get more financial growth through investments than they can from the growth coming in from the poor and third world countries.

Expect more Crazy as JW.ORG trims the fat and fills the coffers.
by donuthole inwhen rutherford assumed the presidency of the watchtower society he instituted series of sweeping changes to the teachings and practices of the bible students.
some of these changes were at complete odds with what had been taught previously.
a key example was the elevation of the watchtower society as "god's visible organization on earth".

I was "totally" stopped in my tracks by an "atheist" comment.
by booker-t ini must admit i can at times be a little "egotistical" when it comes to knowledge and the bible.
i have studied the bible for so long and have always had a passion for the bible as a jw and as an ex-jw.
i guess that is all i have left when it comes to religion and as humans we do tend to stroke our egos.

In the story of Noah God murdered millions of babies and billions of animals as well. He could have had evil humans die in their sleep without a flood at all, and all that pointless loss of life. Then afterwards God regretted it, yet God is supposed to be all knowing and wise and knows the future, so surely he would have known he would feel regret and not do it in the first place. Of course it is just a story, and that is before we even start with the fact of the flood being a scientific impossibility.

Would blood mgmt improvements have been made without firm stand of JW's

Nugget - Blood is expensive so economics would have forced change with or without witnesses.
Good point. On the flip side, pharmaceutical companies want a product they can patent, so they have a product they can sell.
Smiddy - I often wonder if any of these parents have since learned TTATT , or even if they have not learned TTATT , but have drifted away , left the religion , and regretted /felt remorse/or even guilty over their decision to agree with , and support the no blood policy of jehovahs witnesses , which has led to the death of their child.
I received an email from a mother whose son died in her arms after a car crash. She refused him a blood transfusion. Watching him die led her to realising it is not the truth. It was a devastating story and I am sure happens regularly.

Those tatts on the old people look amazing. I always thought it would look tragic but instead it is a great reminder to young people that they too are tough, independant and cool.

Researchers were looking for bloodless alternatives well before the Watchtower banned blood. The part JWs play is offering people that are willing to die as trial subjects for non blood alternatives.

The CO visit this week he says" In August..."
by James Jackson inup until 5 years ago, the co used to work up their own parts for specfic congregations in their circuits.
everything is up to script, in other words, every co in the country are givings the same talks in the local congregations they visit.
what got me to cringe is when he said at the meeting, trying to encourage everyone to pioneer this august; he said :" you know this october it will be 100 years since gods kingdom began ruling, remember what happen when joshua told the israelites to march around jericho on the seventh day, and what happened when they let out a great war cry?

The watchtower has become the furniture store that is going out of business for the 100 time.
I hate stores with the never-ending closing down sale. Yet the average JW keeps falling for it year after year. The WTS has provided that script because they know it will be a good source of motivation for this year, and the "sheep" will force it out of their memories by next year.

JWs in a frenzy!
by leaving_quietly inanyone else get the distinct impression that jws are being worked up into a frenzy with all the changes and activity nowadays?
by the end of august, there will have been four campaigns inside of a year.
one last november, a memorial campaign, a convention campaign and an advertise jw.org campaign.. then there's the conventions with all the hooplah around that with all the video, and the aggrandizement of synchronized gb talks.

I remember being in a frenzy in the 80s and 90s because of the generation doctrine. Now that is gone and 100 years have past there is not much left to motivate them. They can only use the 100 year anniversary of 1914 for a year or two. There is only so much that hours, magazine sizes and meetings can be reduced by. The GB can frenzy all they like in the short term, but longevity for the religion will require significant doctrinal changes. The 144,000 will be one of the first to come IMO.

If the earth is going to burn up as Born Agains teach would that make Jesus a "false prophet"?
by booker-t inas i have mentioned here for many years there are some things i totally disagree with the wt society on but one thing i do believe they have right is that the earth is going to last forever.
one thing that has always amazed me with born agains that teach the earth is going to burn up is the scripture where jesus says "the meek will inherit the earth".
this is clear and plain and why would jesus outright "lie" about the earth if he knew it was going to burn up?

Why does it make Jesus a false prophet? Where did he ever say that the earth would remain forever?

Nugget I see I just beat you to the point about money being as much a deciding factor as the high moral ground.
