Some modifications (mainly at the data level) and one could generate "Awake!" quite readily, making about as much sense as it now does.
To make it sound like an Awake you would have to replace all the 4 syllable words with 2 syllables.

Shouldn't the WTBTS have more than 7 million followers after 140 years of preaching?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inafter 140 years of preaching and millions of books, magazines, and tracts, all the wtbts has to show is a measly 7 million members.
the mormons, baptists, pentecostals and many other religions have more members without the preaching work.. in your opinion, is 7 million members way too many for all the odd beliefs, doctrines and practices ?
or, should be more members since they have had over 140 years of being in the religion business?.

Any sales organization that took 10,000 hours to make 1 sale would be out of business. There is nothing like free religious labour; inefficient but unstoppable.

Lost and Found
by Vivere inwell after an almost 4 year sucessful fade including a move, they found me.
i was not home at the time, but they were asking all sorts of questions about me and my family, who lives where etc.
of course it was one of the busybody families in my former congregation.

Saying nothing is the best policy. You cannot be disfellowshipped for being inactive, but can for apostasy, and discussing any doubts you have will earn you that label. If they come back and ask how you are going the answer is simply, "I'm fine, I will see you at a meeting when I am ready." They will ask if they can help, and just keep saying, you are fine and there is nothing you need at the moment.
They may get belligerent and say you are risking everlasting life, and how you won't see your parents in the new system. Do not fall for that trap. Just keep repeating that everything is ok. Their attitude may make you angry, and your pride may make you want to stand up for yourself, but there is nothing to gain from talking back to them, and your parents to lose.

recent watchtower article condemning catholic mediator between men and god
by oldregretfuljwx2 ini'm researching for an article on religious torture, how the un condemns physical and psychological torture and how that applies to witness shunning and ran across the information below on mediatorship.

Great find, what total hypocrisy. The following quote shows how the great crowd need to be united with the 144,000 (JW saints as it were) to benefit from the mediator.
"They recognize that they are not spiritual Israelites in the new covenant mediated by Jesus Christ, nor part of the "chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation."-1 Pet. 2:9. Yet they do benefit from the operation of the new covenant. They benefit from this just as, in ancient Israel, the "alien resident" benefited from residing in among the Israelites who were in the Law covenant.-Ex. 20:10; Lev. 19:10, 33, 34; Rev. 7:9-15. To keep in relationship with "our Savior, God," the "great crowd" needs to remain united with the remnant of spiritual Israelites." Watchtower 1979 Nov 15 p.27
I'll add this 2014 comment to jwfacts.com/watchtower/mediator.php

July 15 Awake - strange quote and i'm not sure what else...
by Gladring ini was trying to find the source of the michael j. tyler quote in the was it designed article in the jul 15 awake, when i came across this website.. was this posted before the magazine?
is the watchtower passing someone else's work off as their own, or the other way round?.
also, can anyone find the source of the quote?

Gladring, the Awake comes out a couple of months before the cover date. At the link samuelogezi has cut and pasted from the article and submitted it onto that forum. Most likely he is a JW. I wonder what the Watchtower thinks about having their work plagerised without any indication that it is from a Watchtower article. The same user has done that with a number of articles.

Translating JWFacts to Spanish... Update?
by ILoveTTATT inas you all may know, it is an ongoing project to translate jwfacts to spanish.
given that there are more than 2 spanish-speaking jw's for every one that speaks english, it can be safely said that spanish is the #1 language in the jw world (even though everything is made originally in english).. the spanish-speaking jw's are harder to convince.
i attribute it almost 100% to socioeconomic factors.

Thanks to everyone that has offered to get involved. I am ready to put together the site, and have registered VERDADTJ.COM, but need a few more finished articles to make it worthwhile.

What is this latest letter from the GB about?
by stuckinarut2 inwe have been told this week that all in the elder and ms body will be read a letter from the gb about "make this the greatest month of activity ever"..... has anyone else had such a letter read out in their cong / servant body?.
i presume it will be all about "recommending strongly/insisting" that all these men should pioneer for the month?.

I have not seen it, but they like to do a push in August to get the publisher statistics up, as it is the last month of the service year. I thought maybe they will have a big preaching campaign in September, to be the anniversary of 100 years of the invisibile rule of Christ. That would get everyone excited that Armageddon may come in October; maybe they don't want to take that risk of failure.

It is the July issue of the Awake, not 15th. Here is the quote from page 16:
"If, as some claim, its reproductive system evolved, the gastric brooding frog would have had to make vast changes to both its physical makeup and its behavior all at once. “It is inconceivable to contemplate a slow and progressive change in its reproductive biology,” wrote scientist and evolutionist Michael J. Tyler. “The habit is totally effective or it fails completely.” The only plausible explanation, Tyler says, is “a single, huge, quantum step.” Some would say that such a quantum step is called creation."
I'm not sure it is a misquote, but rather a misunderstanding of quantum steps within evolution.

need advice
by search4truth ini'm trying to fade away from the jw religion fully aware of ttatt .
my wife is still under mind control of this cult and teenager 14 years old attending most of the meetings an some ministry arrangements but is not interested and going just to please mum.
i actively educate my son about about other cults and their practices and he knows i don't believe that wt has anything to do with god.

Cult and mind control are both accurate descriptions, but can be counter productive and taken with offense. Other terms to use are "high control", "undue influence" and "coercive persuasion."
Teenagers are perceptive but also vunerable to these types of groups. Rather that discuss the Watchtower being a cult, continue as you have and highlight the techniques that make it one, and how there are manifest in other groups. You will do him a favour not only to leave the Watchtower, but also to learn how to avoid similar groups. Lifton's criteria are the foundation to any discussion, but also a bit difficult to understand, so try to make it more obvious by application to other groups, including religious, corporate and political.
Multi-level marketing companies are very compelling for young people trying to make easy money, and so similar to the Watchtower structure that would be a great discussion with your son. The sales pitch always includes the following points.
- Do you want a better future
- Would you like to remove all your money problems
- Do you picture yourself with a yacht in a paradise island
- Do you want to belong to a special family of like minded individuals
- Wouldn't you love to belong to something that improves the world
- What we have is the best product of all that are out there
- You need to make sure you use our product and not others
- You need to talk to everyone you know about this to build your network
It is easy to see how these comments apply equally well to a Usana, Amway or any high control religion, and you will hear them at almost every meeting.
I would keep your wife out of this for now, as you don't want to start a battle between the two of you for your son's allegiance.
