Great thread.
At my cousin's wedding the elder said that she should consider herself to be like a chair, there to support her husband.
our go-to wack-a-doodle elder moved to a new congregation a few years back.
the position has been vacant since then.. we had an elder move in a few months back.
he appears to be angling for the position of resident wack-a-doodle.. at last night's service meeting, he said (paraphrased): "as a congregation, we've been busier than ever before with our special campaign.

howdy!.
it's been a while since i've poked my head in here.... i was just curious if anyone on the forum is involved with bitcoin mining?.
i am, and am having fun doing it.
https://bitcoin.org/en/innovation is interesting. It seems Bitcoin suffers from an identity crisis. Bitcoin has the reputation of being a valueless, speculative geek currency, or maybe a 20th century barter card. Yet the article shows that it incorporates a means of securely transfering payments. Maybe that aspect needs a new identity such as Bittorrent, no that's taken, Bittransfer or Bitpay. Can the transactional side be separated from the currency, or is the currency required for the payments to take affect?
i haven't really been on here in like, a year.
my stbx introduced me to this site and then a whole buch of life happened and i just sort of never had time for forums.
but here i am at 3am, another sleepless night, and i feel like i am simply lost.
I really just feel like such a fool!
I don't think so. It is difficult to understand our own motivations, as it is that of others. The entire dynamic of marriage is difficult too, particularly once there are children to consider. Mix into that how you are dealing with the toxic upbringing of both of you being raised as JWs and how it destorts perceptions of reality and morals. Your post makes you sound very caring, rather than coming across as a fool.
howdy!.

Simon - Actually I'm surprised that this aspect hasn't gotten as much attention. In years to come will people look back at the wated energy to 'discover' some numbers and shake their heads?
Good point. Data centers use huge amounts of energy for the servers, and then for air conditioners. There must be more efficient energy recovery systems to harvest energy from server heat to cool the room, similar to how hybrid cars can harvest heat to charge their batteries.
Besti - the underlying technology could be used for many things where validating identity without a 3rd party middleman would be useful. Examples include the exchange of contracts and voting systems.
Can you explain how that would work. I'm showing my ignorance here, but what does bitcoin technology have to do with identity validation?
your thoughts on such a poster?.
(http://religions.pewforum.org/reports says: "jehovah's witnesses have the lowest retention rate of any religious tradition.
only 37% of all those who say they were raised as jehovah's witnesses still identify themselves as jehovah's witnesses.").
ABibleStudent's question is valid. How about as a statement:
Since 2/3 children raised as a Jehovah's witness leave the religion, shunning destroys families.

They are more likely to speak out about Christian Americans fighting against ISIS, than against ISIS.
some may remember the time when the private study edition of the wt wasn't to be made available to outsiders, and the df'd.. now, with the recent boe letter, sept 1, 2014, it specifically states that jw.org is making the km available even for df'd individuals.. do you sense a new trend developing?.
There has been no lightening of shunning in recent times. Hopefully in the future.
Withholding the KM from disfellowshipped people is just an elitist form of punishment, since there is nothing special contained in it. However, they are more concerned with saving money now, hence allowing anyone to download the KM, and wear the download or printing costs.
do you believe it's inerrant?
do you believe it's based on things that happened, but a lot of it may just be stories and it's not perfect because men wrote it?
do you think it's just a good guide?
I always questioned the fairness of having inspired a book that only half the globe really has access to. Why only inspire the Bible but not the books of the other religious tenets.
what is the borg?
what are dubs?

Good idea. It is not strictly accurate, as 67% leave, but not all are baptised, and not all that leave are disfellowshipped, so the percentage to be shunned would be less. Also, the word soon should not be included, as many don't leave till one or two decades after baptism.
Maybe something like "67% of Jehovah's Witness children leave the religion. It you let your child get baptised, there is a good chance you will be forced to shun them." Could do with work, but something like that.
