Kent,
For someone who doesn't believe the bible is the word of God, you sure put a lot of faith in what it says God did/does.

god not only condoned mass murder, he ordered it .
i notice that many people here have claimed that "god is not a murderer.
god does not condone or plan the brutal murder of children!

i posted some questions a while ago about my wife, and now i'm lost.
i put together a 200 page exposition on how the governing body are false witnesses using only watchtower literature (scans and the cd) and showing how they claim to be the salvation and that people shouldn't think for themselves, showed it to my wife, and she simply told me that she knew all those things and that if she could she would divorce me.
it's all in the bible.. the weird thing is though, the next morning, she pretended like things are fine.
You can also be sure she's being coached my friend. Remember, the brainwashed person only makes sense to themselves, other brainwashees, and the brainwasher(s). Good Luck!

assuming a belief in a creator and that s/he has made provison for an afterlife, what does everyone think would prevent you, doctrinally, from being "saved"?
i'm not talking about moral charactor, but specific religious beliefs like the trinity, using gods "name", baptism, reincarnation, accepting all biblical accounts as factual etc.
include beliefs of all faiths; buddists, muslem, new age - all of 'em.. later,.

in the beginning, if there were only two humans and they had kids, how did the kids have kids if not through incest?
my question is this.
when did that become unexceptable?
The reason is because it concentrates genetic defects in the offspring and produces FRED HALLS.

premise: many who have read the bible over the centuries have accepted it as authoritatively from god, and have glossed over some glaring inconsistencies, contradictions, and shear nonsense.
some cultish groups have attempted to mimick the myths and twisted beliefs they have derived from the bible.
jehovah's witnesses are no exception to this.. this raises the questions: if the bible (as we know it) is from god, having his stamp of authorship and approval, then can we ever at some point raise serious questions about it?
Rather, the issue is why God himself ordered the genocidal extermination of an entire city, men, women, children, even babies. Why, in the face of his own command to Israel not to murder - part of his perfect Law through Moses - wold God then cause Israel to murder an entire city?
Bottom line Amazing, He didn't. The Bible is mixed with factual and unfactual history, poetry and LOTS of metaphor.Inspiration comes, not from taking it all literally, but asking to understand how a particular verse or chapter refers to your life personally. Some of it may never apply to you. There are some that apply to everyone. Depends on your circumstances. The Bible is a personal document
The Bible isn't the only literature I've found God given inspiration from. That's what works for me.

Hi Amazing,
I'd like to respond in depth later in the thread, but time doesn't permit tonight. here's my quote from the "For those of us who still believe in God" thread. It's how I feel in a nutshell.
Seems to me the biggest problem people have with God is the term omnipetance---God can do anything. Both believers and non-believers put God in a paradoxial box by insisting He/She must have this attribute. Many athiests point to the fact that an omnipetant God would solve all of our problems but doesn't; therefore they wouldn't worship him even if He/She existed. Believers make excuses for this "inaction"; giving God the human qualities of anger, retribution and willfull infliction of pain upon us all; part of his omnipetant "justice". Even the bible says God can't lie, therefore God can't be omnipetant.
I believe the Creator has a purpose that we are not yet in a position to comprehend; kinda like an unborn child trying to understand what's happening as he is being born. This life is short, and forever is a long time.On the other hand, would you really God to control every aspect of your life, with no danger or challenges? Would you want to ride a roller coaster w/o being scared? Think about it.

i would like to know why you still beleive in god and what, based upon the bible, leads you to believe in god.. i likethe scripture that states the earth was a circle and hung upon nothing.
i also find that there is evidence the flood existed.
anybody know the stats of the "supposed" ark on mr. ararat?.

i am writing to gather consensus on what are the most incontrovertible evidences against jws.
i am working to 'deprogram' my wife and am trying to compile a list of those things that are the most difficult to stand against.. for example, i believe that the jw treatment of 'false prophets' and their distinction between those who are simply overzealous and those who are just plain wrong looks silly in the face of their historical blunders.. any opinions would be very helpful, especially with web-site references for good sources of information.. thank, y'all are super helpful.
The first and foremost right of any human being is the freedom to think for ones self. Any person, government or organization demanding that you abandon that God given right is something to avoid at all costs. The 1980's watchtower article on "avoiding independent thinking" was the straw that broke the camels back for me.

Amazing,
You said:
"Theoretically, all matter in the universe is believed to be condensed at one time into a single mass with no space, such that light cannot escape.
Pre big bang theory belief held that matter and the universe has always existed. What you're saying is that matter either always existed in a finite point, then becoming the universe as we know it or that matter always is/has been oscillating between the two states.
Isn't this just a variation of the old belief, leaving us with the same basic question?
