  why has such an unprecedented boom in population and technology occurred during the specific time the bible points to the 'last days', 1914?

  Fright, I don't agree with you that 1914 is any more a pivotal date than most others. Why not 1939 when WW11 started; or 1948 when the Jews "came home?"
  What is fascinating to me however is the increase in knowlege that has manifested itself in the last 2-300 years. The increase in scientific, technological, medical and archeological knowlege has been astounding and appears to be increasing exponentially. It's kinda like Moores law relating to comuter processing power. Like you, I would like to know what was/is unique about the last couple of hundred years as opposed to the tens of thousands that humans have been here prior. One article I read recently pointed out that human knowlege is doubling every 3 years. Now, I don't know how accurate that is (or even if it can be measured) but it's obvious that the increase is mind boggling.

  i spent a couple of hours today with jw relatives and of coarse the usual subjects came up.

  based on our conversation and after leaving, a couple of the old questions came to mind.

  i'm curious about the rest of the boards thoughts.. now this may be conjecture but what if: god made it known,in no uncertain terms, that h/she exists and is finally going to put an end to all the evil in the world.

  I spent a couple of hours today with JW relatives and of coarse the usual subjects came up. Based on our conversation and after leaving, a couple of the old questions came to mind. I'm curious about the rest of the boards thoughts.

  Now this may be conjecture but what if: God made it known,in no uncertain terms, that H/She exists and is finally going to put an end to all the evil in the world. H/She detemines who/what is evil and no specific remedies are given; only you MUST make a decision as to which side you take. The US and all world governments vow to keep their soveriegnty and fight to the end. Your CONCIENCE,not the Bible, any religious organization or manis to be your only guide.
  Honestly, what would you do?

  Another question. Can any of you even remotely see, based on current events, world governments banning all religion in any form? I admit that it sounds far fetched, but not as far fetched as it seemed a few years ago.

  I'm sure most if not all of us have at some time seriously considered these things, even if we won't admit it.
  For my athiest friends, try to respond as if this were a real situation. Yea,I know it's tough not to jest, but give it a try

  i'm including a partial quote of an article posted by tallyman on kents website.

  now most of you who know me are aware that i don't have a great deal of regard for the watchtower corporation.

  but this kind of extremism scares me.. "i am in need of references to watchtower publications that contain images of united states government buildings, especially the white house- depicted as being violently destroyed by the watchtower society.. i have much of the wt literature pre-1992, and a bit of the post-1992 stuff, but it is such a tremendous task to sift through all this literature to find these watchtower-generated images of destruction of u. s. government property and buildings, as well as the text or captions accompanying such.. please send me the name of the watchtower publication and page number and i will scan it and am in the process of making a webpage which will contain all the seditious material i can compile on the watchtower.

  Well said Danny. I guess I can understand Toms anger, those images were imprinted on my mind for years. I just don't want those of us who have gotten out of that nightmare to stoop to that kind of percieved hate mongering. Don't get me wrong Tom, If the WTS were terrorists and presented that kind of threat to national security, I would be the first to point the finger; family or no family. But the truth is, they're not.

  we have been informed in dayton that gas prices will go up by midnight by 4 dollars a gallon.

  i hope this is another false alarm, but i am filling up in either case.
