War of the Worlds made so much $$$$$ because it is a Spielberg movie and in spite of TC being in it! Also, it had no other movies being released against it on a tree day holiday weekend.

I don't think I'll ever go out of my way to watch a TC movie again, because of the way he has been carrying on with KH and particularly because of the way he acted while being interviewed by Matt Lauer and his cracks about Brook Shields PPD. He and his Scientologists sound just like the JW's they insist you convert before they will marry you and push, push, push for your money!

After sitting here over the last couple of days, reading the 7 pages of postings....I just gotta say...I LOVE THIS BOARD! It is so nice to be able to discuss all these differant subjects without being told I'm being untheocratic!

I've promised by daughter (she's the 17 year old) a trip to England in 2006 as a reward if she does well this year in school (yeh I know it's bribery, but I'll do almost anything to keep her in school). Maybe by that time I'll know some of you a little better and we can get together for a drink or two!

And yes, the North vs the South thing in the US is getting old, take it from a Rebel, born in New Jersey..just south of the Mason-Dixon line! I've always said I'm a damned Yankee with a Rebel's heart!

My mother through her 40+ years of social climbing and connections at Bether.....hasn't mentioned anything about the Williams sister being df'd or reproved. When MJ did thriller, it was mentioned from the platform that his conduct was questionable.....dear mom had word from "headquarters" that MJ had eventually withdrawn from the "truth" or is that disassociated himself? Whatever, I'll bet the GB cried of the loss of all that $$$$$

Weird Field Service Experiences

did anyone have any really weird calls?

i remember one when i was aux pioneering- some guy said he belived in 'the book of the yellow man' which he said was based on the belief that aliens came to earth in a hot air balloon and created mankind... or something like that.

he was an odd chap.

15 degrees (-10 degrees wind chill factor) January day, three homes from the Ocean on the Jersey Shore...walking the block at 13 years old with another 13 year old sister (happened to be the daughter of the Ministry School Overseer)....lady answers the door and tells me "I'm sorry, I'm not interested I have my own religion" to which I answer..."that's okay, but why are you sorry, at least your religion doesn't make you knock on peoples door on days this cold". I turned and left the door.....companion and I giggling.....unfortunately she thought it was so funny, she told her parents about it at dinner that night. Needless to say, I had a meeting with the committee of three.

It felt so good, it was worth it!

He stood for the National Athem and is still alive!

this past sunday the husband and i went to the car races at near by speed way to watch the races and the fireworks that is put on there everyyear on the 4th of july ,usually he heads to the bathroom is his excuse not to stand for the athem but this time when it was announced for all to stand he looked at me as i was rising and said to me " do you want me to stand ,and i said yes ,you are only standing so what is the big deal".

i was so happy just for the fact that he stood there against the laws of the wt and folks,he wasn't struck down dead and no demons took over he body as of yet.. i really don't care if he believes in his country or not but i want him to feel it for his own reasons and not because the wt told him that it is naughty and against their laws, so for me i hope this is some kind of break through..

I've noticed that a lot of the former JW's from the US talk about not standing for the Flag Salute????? My mother started studying at the end of '59, was baptised January of '60......we were still in the tar and feather the JW's era, however we were told as children to stand respectfully....not put our hands over our heart and not say the words. I guess the don't stand was either something that came out later and I didn't pay attention or done in certain areas???

But then again, it seems the CO and other "older brothers" in each congo kinda made up their own rules at they went along, so as not to rock the boat of their peaceful lifestyles.

maybe i missed an early post on the death of luther, but i just wanted to state that i am a big fan of his music and knowing that i will not ee him again in concert or wait with anticipation his next cd certainly makes me sad..

Sleepy, I know I'm new to this board, so I'm not familiar with all of the "players" yet.....but the one thing I've noticed over the last week of reading the posts and posting is that several of the folks from the other side of the pond like to bash those of us from the colonies. Rebel8 started this topic as a way of discussion bout our celebration of our independence! I'm sorry we're the ones that got away!

There is much I don't like about the US, but there's more I do like! Thank you Littletoe for your support!

and Sleepy, why don't you do just that....go back to sleep and stop trying to make every statement so controversial. We're all here because we're happy to have escaped the WTB&TS's domination. If you don't like this topic......start one of your own.

Alas at 17 she hasn't decided whether she is gay or straight (would my mother and sister have heart attacks over that one if they knew). However there is always an abundance of young men and women hanging around here on weekends (surfers, rednecks, preps, nerds, wireheads, you name it and we've got it, variety is the spice of life).

We're an hour from the Mouse, 15 minutes from the beach, 2 1/2 - 3 hours from Miami, Jacksonville or Tampa/St Pete and have several colleges and universities within easy commute.

Paying for the pioneer

hi guys, let me get your opinion on this:.

my mom's a pioneer, so she scrapes by on little money, refuses to work overtime, and tries to even survive on part time entry level work.

she can survive, but when it comes to getting appliances fixed, going on vacation, buying new clothes, she has to rely on others gifts and donations to her.. i want her to come visit me, and i need to pay for her ticket.

I went through the same thing when I bought my last house, come to think of it I paid for Mom's trip down then. Give yourself a gift and "pay for the Pioneer", because in all reality what you're really doing something for yourself, you denied yourself or were denied enough gifts when you were associated with "the truth"......so if your Mother will come....send her the ticket! Life is to short to have regrets!

Does the organization issue local 'apostate' warnings to BOE's?

i mean if brooklyn became aware, due to calls or letters from an unidentified opposer, do they issue a letter to local bodies of elders warning that a person in their area is an 'active apostate'?

thus giving the elders a 'heads up', perhaps alerting the cong thru local needs parts, and private conversation?

or does brooklyn do little or nothing and let the locals deal with it only if they see problems?.

Blondie, I kinda agree with you, but I am in the situation of having just faded away. Never been df'd, was publicly reproved (remeber when that started after the DC's in 1972? I was the first person in NJ to be PR'd, everyone thought I was df'd because they hadn't all attended the DC yet), put back in good standing (allowed to give talks and to field service)...but because one of the "elders" in the territory I'm in does not like the fact that I am open and honest about all of the dishonesty, lying and immorality that went on in the congo while I was growing up....and the fact that I told the JW's they were not to talk to my daughter (a minor at the time) if I was not at home...he as decided I am apostate and put my name in the territory map as a do not call. When they redivided the territory the DNC was lost and I had it put back in because I like the peace and quiet on Saturday and Sunday mornings!
