What is an apostate? It depends on who you ask...
Most people think that an apostate is one who actively campaigns against the Society. Keep in mind that the Society disfellowships people for apostasy who simply disagree with certain key beliefs of the Dubs....whether you express your rogue opinions to anyone or not. So, by the Dub definition, if you are seeking to meet with an apostate, in their eyes, that's enough to make YOU an apostate.
The person you are seeking to meet is probably not an antichrist, as most religions would define the term, but, rather, someone who has taken an active stance against the Dubs. The bottom line, though, to them, whether you picket conventions and organize rebellions or simply think that 1914 is baloney, you're an apostate, an anti-christ, one not even worthy of a resurrection.

What things about "Apostates" do you feel is "controlling" as WTS?
by booker-t inone of the things that i have noticed since i have been out is that "apostates"/ex-jw's tend to try and "controll" you the same way as jw's used to do.
for example: whenever you tell an "apostate" that you are no longer one of jw's they right away asume that you want to be a "born-again" christian and try to cram the "trinity" doctrine down your throat.
also if you tell an apostate that you don't share their views on hell-fire damnation they will immediately look at you with "contempt".

One point of clarification. By their definition, anyone who claims the beliefs of the dubs are wrong is an apostate and can be disfellowshipped as such, whether they actively campaign against them or not.
Like all groups of people, ex-jws have all kinds among their number. There are those that carry signs and picket conventions and there are those that are just glad to be out and want to be left alone. Sorry you had a bad experience. But to judge everyone by the standard of the militant is the same as saying all JWs are pioneers.

being shutdown by the watchtower bible and tract.

The mantra of obedience without question beats on...
They say the Internet did more to bring about social changes in China than years of protests and foreign pressure ever did. The Internet will bring about changes in the younger generations because they are constantly exposed to it, as are the people they go to school with or work with and will meet at the door.
Nonetheless, for the rank and file dub, even if you see through the haze, do you really want to give up all your family and friends and start your life naked and alone? It's easier to go through the motions for most people. Attend a couple of meetings a month and drop an hour in the time box at the end of the month...

I am going through a custody battle with my ex-wife as she speak. She is a militant JW and I am an "apostate". So far I've not heard from a WTBS attorney, only her local one.
I would reference a couple of BOE letters on child custody, the 7-1-89 and 12-2-91. These can be found at www.watchtower.cc\wtletters
