I didn't ask whether or not Jerusalem was desolate for 70 years. But I was asking how you reconcile the Scripture in Daniel.
I agree with the Encyclopedia that Jerusalem was destroyed in 587, but don't know how to explain Dan 9:2.
i am thinking of taking on a jw with the 607 question.
my problem is that i dont really understand the whole thing.
has there been a post in the past that tells how to argue it?

Doesn't the text below indicate that Jerusalem was going to be desolate for seventy years?
*** Rbi8 Daniel 9:2 ***
in the first year of his reigning I myself, Daniel, discerned by the books the number of the years concerning which the word of Jehovah had occurred to Jeremiah the prophet, for fulfilling the devastations of Jerusalem, [namely,] seventy years.

Don't know what happened that last post was truncated.
What I wanted to ask was: how do we calculate the 70 years of desolation. When do the 70 years start and when do they end?

If 539 is the year when
i just ran across http://www.livingwatersforum.com with its heading proclaiming: "the yorww congregation speaks as a 'voice in the wilderness' to all the congregations of jehovah's witnesses--isaiah 40:3.
" they consider themselves jehovah's witnesses and are concerned with the watchtower society's apostasy and are therefore calling all jehovah's witnesses to repentance.
their spokesperson is donald c. burney, who is also the author of "the report" book.
I remember something about 'the report' they used to post portions of that material on some public forums on the net a couple of years ago. But I don't remember too much.
From what I think, they claim to have someone like a prophet today who gives special revelations from God to people. But it's been a while since I've spoken with them ... I also think they have provided some instant messenger options for people to contact them. When I last talked to one of them they made some predictions about how the war in Irak would progress, but I don't believe their predictions came true ...
i am organizing a major protest rally at the watchtower society hq in brooklyn , ny, thursday, october 13 from 12:00 noon until 3:00pm with dinner and fellowship afterwards.
i am planning chartered buses from major centres in the eastern canada and usa.
i hope that this will be an historic event and make the international news.

"Hieron is the Greek word for the entire temple complex with all its sub-structures and courts. Naos refers to the inner sanctuary of the temple complex which included the Holy and Holy of Holies (or Most Holy)."

I've been reading a material by Jon Mitchell on the temple and original Greek 'naos' and wanted to see if anyone agrees with his interpretation.
