The most obvious example of circular reasoning I've ever seen; the bible is true because the bible says so. If the book is so credible, why can't it cite a reference other than itself as to whether or not it's the truth?
It's no different than me saying, "I'm God because I say so." Only an idiot would believe me.

i know some that tout their government as being blameless, wonderful, and almost perfect.
whether you are considered a "liberal" or "conservative", it seems that some are "true believers" in their cause.. personally, i'm disillusioned with politics although i'm always interested and fascinated by ideology and personalities.. i think all governments are unrighteous.
i think some individuals mean well but the higher in government that you are, the more soiled you become..
Politics is the art of convincing people that bullshit tastes good and should be swallowed enthusiatically.

forgive me if this has been touched on many times before.. i was wondering if anyone has actually written the society requesting their response/justifications to the many discrepencies and flaws in their doctrine and history, such as failed/altered dates and prophesies, pyramidology, beth sarim, lack of transparency, economic and political ties to the world, how they no more than archeologists, biblical contradictions, etc, etc..... if so, what was their response?.
I doubt the society would respond to you. More than likely they will forward a letter to the elders in your territory so they can take steps to prevent you from contaminating the congregation.

it has been said on here for the last few years now, that with the elimination/combination of the book study at the kingdom halls instead of at homes, the introduction of new rule books (keep yourself in god's love) and the new elder manual that a "tightening of the reigns" was beginning.
and so, just as the members of jwd and the internet have written, so it shall be done by the governing body overlords.
Is an announcement made that a particular person is now inactive? Will an announcement be made when a person has been reactivated?
I can see them eventually resorting to this, merely saying the person isn't a JW any more. The congregations were never given reasons for DFing outside of the rumour mills. I've heard many JWs say, "If you're not witnessing you're not a witness." That attitude has been around a long time. I've seen many "weak" or inactive publishers™ shunned; there was a time when I shunned them too. "Low hour" publishers™ are harassed into doing more, and often have pioneers™ or others assigned to "help" them.
To announce that someone isn't a JW anymore isn't such a huge step from what they're doing now.

How can teachings change?
Catholic teachings change. JW teaching change. Even medical teachings change. Today they give us blood transfusions, while a few hundred years ago they used leeches to suck it out.
My opinion? Everyone is full of crap, and I won't put faith into anything I can't personally verify.

Basically, if you are not going door-to-door in the field ministry, you are disassociating yourself and will be considered bad association, and subject to shunning.
My former congregation was already a lot like that, though not "officially". Their treatment of members drove a lot of people into leaving. They'll never learn; the more they tighten the fist the more people they'll squeeze out entirely.
It's tough on the people, but in the long run it may be a good thing.

a few of my friends who also used to be jw's, say they miss certain things abt it...i can honestly say that i don't miss a single thing (my sister obviously who's still in but nothing else).. before i could sometimes miss having such a strong belief but that's also gone.
i guess i've moved on big time.

Same here. When I think back to my younger days, I see I was an idiot. I was also much happier than I am today.

CoC is not the holy Grail.
I don't think anyone said it was. Many of us, myself included, saw through watchtower BS long before we ever read CoC. I never read it from cover to cover, but I found it useful as a reference, and it helped to fill some gaps. It confirmed what I had already learned on my own.
Personally, I think the watchtower's own literature is the most potent weapon in an "apostate's" arsenal. Nothing condemns the watchtower as effectively as their own literature.
