I'm sure that's just the tip of the iceburg. That represents only one of their corporations in Canada. With a little digging you can find similar pages for most congregations, though with lesser amounts. I found one a few years ago that had my name on it from when I was the account servant and filed the tax return for the congregation. There is also the regional building committee, kingdom hall building fund, all the assembly halls, and all the congregations, and who knows what else. The kingdom halls are deeded to some congregations, while other congregations pay rent to the one the hall is deeded to.

To meet the requirement of spending a certain percentage of receiptable donations on charitible work, the congregations simply write a cheque to another "charitible organization", the WTS. All these "charitible organizations" meet their legal requirements by donating to other "charitible organizations" under the cult's umbrella, rather than doing real charitible work. The money flows from one hand to the next, but always within the same circle.

Personally, I consider it fraudulent, but the cult has covered its legal ass by sending out "volunteers" to do the "preaching work".

i'd just stand at the door and not knock on it or ring it.

if someone came, i'd make a presentation - "here's your tract!".

otherwise i'd just wait a couple of minutes and then go to the next door and not knock.. .

It depended on who the partner was. One MS and I would pretend to knock on doors while we discussed where we'd go for breakfast, and which bar we'd go to afterward. Once that was decided, we'd leave the group so we could do our "return visits".

Personally, I like having friends who believe differently than me or disagree with me on different things. It gives birth to many stimulating conversations. (not arguments). It helps me to keep an open mind and understand alternative perspectives.

The best way to stifle personal growth is to surround yourself with clones, as the JWs do.

Facebook and employment interviews

listening to this in the news got me infuriated!.

there is a growing trend that employment interviewers are asking for facebook profile with login password.. they are looking into everything you post.. there is no law in the books to prevent this!.

even though i'm self employed, i think this goes beyond what's required of hirees!.

Recon it's an ethical test? If you don't protect your own passwords - how will you care for theirs?

That's the only legitimate reason for such a question. In the past I've refused to give admin passwords to company directors. I told them if they want it they should speak to my director.
