the october the 1st watchtower has interesting views on the education of jw children.. page 30, in which one jw explains how he ended up in ft service says:.

'we did not associate with our school mates but only with those in the congregation who had good spiritual habits.'.

interesting as this shows judgmentalism and criticism 'even' in the jw congregation.. then on page 31 it explains how parents must offer their children, as early as possible, proper guidance in their choice of school subjects and vocation goals.. 'rather than choose academic subjects that are geared toward a university education, parents and children need to consider courses that are useful in pursuing a theocratic career.'.

You would do well to apply your own advice, Bradley. The fact that you have not experienced a certain type of treatment does not mean that no one else has. Statements do not become truth or lies by your decree alone. Learn your place.

I suggest you go back and evaluate your history on the boards. You are sounding more and more like a JW apologist. It makes me wonder why you even come here instead of the kingdom hall.

Or do you still attend meetings? You sound like a typical blowhard elder who's in love with the sound of his own voice.

Nope. False. You're wrong. I was a JW till I was 25 and never was told that.

No, you're wrong. I was a JW until I was 45 and I was told that many times. Your lack of experience does not invalidate the experiences of others.

Many trades require a 5 year apprenticeship before a person is licensed or certified. This means 5 years of a combination of full time work and some school. I have yet to see the Watchtower explain how this can be done when they're nagging kids to start pioneering right out of high school.

Many such institutions offer short courses in office skills, auto repair, computer repair, plumbing, hairdressing, and a host of other trades. Are these desirable jobs? Certainly!

Funny, I've known elders to persecute JWs for taking courses to acquire these skills too. I took a lot of crap and lost all my "priviledges" for taking computer courses part time on Saturday afternoons.

Most elders are stupid, and that's why they want everyone else to be stupid. It's tough to lord it over people who are smarter than you.

So that explains why I saw some dubs giving out handbills today. First time this year I've seen any out in service™.

all of us have been tit-sucking jehovahs witnesses at one point in our lives, and we have been deceptively forced to give up our very own individuality to become one group united under, supposedly, god's only earthly organization.

just maybe, maybe throughout your much hated dull life, as a brainless witness, you weren't allowed to experience the necessities of life, such as satan's blaring rock and roll that you oh so always wanted to listen to, dressing up in those flaming hot name brand clothes lines, being part of a sports team, knowing what true bonding friendship and competition really meant, or chosing those friends you know would never turn you in for having that nightly drink at the club.

now that we know the real truth, and the damage has been done, what have you done to repair it?

metatron, you are being very generous to the JWs. Love may be listed third, but in practice it has a much lower priority in the day to day life of the average JW. Attending meetings, giving talks, field service, submitting their monthly reports and gossiping take up much more of their time than showing love.

When we debate minutiae like this it only makes us appear like nit-picking whiners.

Yes, the watchtower taught us well, didn't it?

What is your, "Unforgivable Sin?"

the wts has made vague statements about the unforgivable sin metioned in the bible but we all know that you can curse god and jesus and be forgiven but should you promote the idea that the wts is not god's only earthly channel and that organization is a fraud, that will not be forgiven.. on a person note, should you guys call a woman by the wrong name when you are first trying to get to know her, that will not be forgiven, especially if you call her a co-workers name!.

What Reasons Were Given to Prove that Armageddon Was Near?

i'm thinking back to all the "signs" that were cited - officially and unofficially - as reasons we knew that armageddon would be coming any day now.

there was a fellow in my book study 30 years ago who used to bring time magazine to every meeting.

to him, whatever was in the news that week was evidence that the system couldn't hold out much longer.
