this is a question for those that believe in a god or gods, particularly those described as "all knowing" or "almighty".. how do you defend to yourself that your god has not in any modern situation saved his people from anything?.

Forgive me if this has been covered - I'm at work and haven't had time to read the entire thread, but felt I needed to add my 2 cents.

Supposedly Adam and Eve were created perfect. They sinned by performing a simple act of eating fruit from the "tree of knowledge", and as a result all their descendants are born in sin, even though they did not yet exist when this act of "rebellion" took place. Regardless of what this "fruit" represented, the injustice of allowing billions of people to suffer the consequences of the act is obvious. They were not alive to even witness the act, let alone take part in it.

History is filled with atrocities that "God" supposedly had the power to prevent - World wars, the holocaust, the Balkans, Rwanda - there are too many to mention. Yet I suppose that should not surprise me - the God of the Old Testament was himself such a sadistic butcher that he made Adolph Hitler look like a wuss.

I could not defend, worship, or respect such a "God" and still respect myself.

Book study in your home

did anyone have the book study group meet in your home?.

my family had the book study group meeting in our basement and it was such a drag.. some of the reasons why it sucked.. the house always had to be spotless.. my mom insisted that there was always refreshments available for after the group meeting.. some dubs used to wander into other parts of the house, including my room.. if i missed the bookstudy because i was sick, some would actually come down to my room to talk.. there were many times when little things would go missing, glasses, magaizines, books, food, you name it.. people would check out my music and books all the time.. i have long since moved out, but mom still has the book study meeting there..

We currently have it at our house every week.
We are maintaining the status quo until we leave this town.

Have a coffee night for the last night of the book study just before you leave. Have a nice, home made chocolate cake laced with exlax.

i have no problem with the wife attending meeting and i dont mind taking her, sunday 10/9/05 i drove 170 miles to san diego to take her there, she was to meet an old friend to go to the meeting with her along with her two daughters, and my dyed in wool witness daughters, well guess what we got there and were waiting in the parking lot of the kingdumb hall and get a call to my daughters cell phone, they had just woken up and couldnt make it in time, instead of meeting them at the 2nd meeting and then going out to dinner and spending the day together, they said they couldn't make either, so we left, i was pissed as i was suppose to spend the day with a friend pursuing the football for the day and taking in a couple of beers chips etc.

well that was shot in the ass i had to drive back 170 miles to where we were staying, and later that evening they called and wanted to know if we could meet them for an evening meeting so they could then could go eat together and by the way could my wife pay for a couple of her friends who wanted to come along.

i mean the gall of some people.

170 miles??? Each way??? So you spent a total of 5-6 hours driving for nothing, then you are expected to do it again all so you can have the privilege of paying for someone else's meal???

I'm surprised your wife even considered going again. My ex would have dumped these so called "friends" like a sack of shit. And they would have received one hell of an earfull.

I started studying in '83, baptized in '84, and by 1992 I decided there was no way in hell I would live in their "new system." I still believed the doctrine but couldn't stand the people. I had decided that if I survived armageddon I'd shoot myself the next day. I stayed in and went through the motions because of my wife and mother.

It wasn't until 3 years ago, when I learned how widespread the sex abuse problem was that I decided I could no longer allow the watchtower society to bring a stench upon my name and good reputation. I did my research and DA'd.

I'm so glad I'm out!

I had the BS in my house, and so did my mom. My BS conductor kept harassing me because he thought I was "materialistic". I got fed up with it and told him that since my alleged materialism was something undesirable, then it was inappropriate for the congregation to benefit from my materialistic ways. I threw the book study out, and piled the chairs on his front porch, blocking the door to his house. I DA'd a few months later. I got rid of the one in my mom's house too.

i generally read the watchtower thoroughly but seldom did i read the awake.

P.S. I would have used them for butt-wad too but the paper is probably too hard and pointy with jagged edges to make for a comfortable wipe. I think the GB uses that material to make sure it isnt used for ass wiping.. but that's just a theory.

Besides, who wants to get all that ink smeared all over their trench?
