ONCE UPON A TIME....JESUS DIDN'T HAVE A BEARD. Watchtower silliness

when i started going to the kingdom hall it was late 1950's and jesus christ did not have a beard in any of the society's illustrations.. when did this begin?

what article justified this?.

i'd like to see either a watchtower explanation of why jesus went beardless or any scan of an article that was apologia for the contrarian view.. suddenly, years later, the watchtower society agreed with christendom!

like the watchtower society - possibly forcing them to publically account for contributions.

Could this be why WBTS is moving out of NewYork?

apparently they were getting a pass on water and sewer bills over the years from the city of new york.. i came across the following today.. .

matter of brooklyn assembly halls of jehovah's witnesses, inc. v department of envtl.

prudenti, p.j., fisher, carni and mccarthy, jj., concur.

I don't think that this would cause them to leave. But it is interesting. Kingdom halls in NYC are also exempt from these charges. WT takes every financial edge they can get though they don't want their people to do so.

They are stalking me,,

i recently moved back to my home town after being away for several years and doing the "fade".

i have family still in, so people heard that i was back in town.

i got six invitations to the memorial and a couple of phone calls about the special talk.

You don't have to answer the door to anyone you don't want to. But you can be assured they will probably keep coming by until they meet you face to face to encourage you back to the meetings.

Amen. But it does take freeing oneself from the mind control. I have been avoiding them now for months and they have stalked, mostly electronically. I have now changed my phone numbers and emails. I have had to get a disposable phone and use that for family contact as my Mom likes to give my number to JWs who want to "encourage" me. As someone said here already, they are doing what they believe is in our best interests. If one believes that a course of action will get a person killed by God, it is the loving thing to try and stop them. The fact that this judgment from God is a myth does not dawn on these people.

watching coverage of the va tech shooting, and thinking about how people who feel powerless and taken advantage of, can plan and carry out such a crime, i wonder when someone will break under the pressures put on by wt and tragically committ one of these at a kingdom hall.

there are probably people who under the right mix of circumstances, mental illness and opportunity, are capable of doing this in the jw cult.

any thoughts?.

Let us hope this never happens. Really. But life often takes turns that are sad but which shine the light of truth in otherwise hard to see places. The media would be impossible to ignore or brush off if something like this happened. Let us hope that somebody up in the ivory tower that is Bethel sees this BEFORE something bad happens. This is a gruesome topic I know, but if these "elders" and "older, experienced men" up there should be seriously considering things like this before they have even more blood on their hands.

One thing that got me thinking about this was a young man I know and studied with who resembled this kid in VA in many ways. Fortunately I encouraged his family to get treatment for him and he is doing OK, for now. But I went against the advice of fellow elders and against the WT Society's directions as expressed in letters to elders to get this young man help.

These are subjects that responsible authority figures have a moral obligation to consider.

dear friends,.

much of what we do on a daily basis is routine and of no particular, earth-shaking importance.

however, after reviewing letters of family going back to wwii, it is fascinating to read what dad was doing on board the aircraft carrier in the pacific on any old day, what mom was cooking on her ever-steaming range, how i was dealing with the roller coaster of emotion at bethel [mom saved all my letters], how nana wrote that she would not study with the witnesses [per my request] but 'here are some mittens i knitted for you when you canvass new york with your magazines.

I journal every day. I use a Smartphone (Palm Treo 700P) with Documents To Go installed. I usually keep a Word doc open and journal everything possible. I always have it and can capture my thoughts and feelings in real time. When my daughter is old enough I plan to give these to her so that she can understand things about me in my own words, particularly why I left the JWs.
