Here is the way a JW put it to me recently. He said the Bible Students knew SOMETHING momentous would happen. They were wrong about what happened, but after all, they're only imperfect humans!

i was browsing thru the march 15 2009 yesterday and came across something that was noo to me.

so we hadour first big meeting tonigh ( bookstudy, ministry school and service meeting ) here are my observations:.
1) even though it is the same amount of time, it seemed verrrrry long.
2) it seemed like a circus.....too many parts that did not relate to the others....seemed like a crossword puzzel with 6 different languages.
Talking about the kids, I think this will be very bad for young ones and shy ones since now they will never want to comment
Good, in a sense at least. The less involved they feel the more likely they'll leave.

leaving out all the obvious problems with a global flood, why would almighty god need a flood at all, with its attendant problems of gathering animals and building arks etc.when he obviously had the power just to destroy the "wicked" and just leave noah and family alive.. after all he destroyed just the first born in egypt (what had they done to offend him?
) so why not just snuff out who he wants to,why a flood?.
come on fundies tell me!.
He needed the flood to provide a prophetic type that Jesus could refer to 2000 years later. What a load of crock.
Isaac
happy new year everyone!.
i hope you all have a fantastic new year!.
Happy New Year all. Its great to be free. Starting over single and free from the JWs, who could ask for anything more? Not here anyway. Again Happy New Year to all here (including you lurkers and even the WT trolls!).

i thought jehobar would struck me dead with a lightning right on the spot.
seriously, i was so scared.
Terrified. I'm a techhie professionally, and I was still scared of being tracked. Much of my lurking and even my first post was done while traveling far from home on business. As someone said its hard to believe now.
Isaac
does anyone remember when the "so and so" congregation was called the "so and so" unit?
do you know the reasoning behind changing the terminology?
Actually Blondie's post just brought it back. Units were Book Studies. They were units before they were groups. Amazing the lingo, how it changes. It becomes easy to tell how current a JW is, whether they are in or out. How cultish.
Isaac
while i was an active jw elder, i wouldn't have up until that last year.
that's when i was totally mentally out, just going thru the technicalities.
i still respect other jw's viewpoints on their not accepting blood----although i think they are terribly misguided.
When I went in for surgeries I made no mention of being a Witness. Truth is no one would have known. My wife was out of the loop, and I would have requested no visitors for a while. The chances of anyone finding out is actually quite small. JWs are scared because they believe "Jehovah's eyes are upon them".

this you tube video as of dec 20, 2008 has received 143,279 clicks and is rapidly approaching the "magic number".
this video is getting a lot of attention as many witnesses are wondering what goes on in a judicial committee hearing.

This is truly wonderful. What a powerful tool YouTube is becoming. Awakened at Gilead's video is an eye opener. Hopefully more of us can do this.

you can polish a turd.... .

They brought some guy who is an expert in making polished mud balls. From there they went on to making a high gloss turd. I tell you I love Mythbusters. Actually it has made for some fun science ed for my daughter.
Isaac
i did.
*gag* got it from a family member.
i didn't even acknowledge receipt - i just deleted it.. purza.
They quoted an economist? who stated what many economists said about what can happen when certain systems such as credit are abused. So that shows that these economists understood their economics. So? That says nothing about WT's ability to predict. If it did then the New York Times and other news sources who quoted the same sources are predictors of the future. And isn't it an appeal to inappropriate authority to insinuate that because WT could recognize a good quote by an astute economist, that they now know what the world's future holds?
