I hear you. I was in Spain in February and loved the mosques and churches. They are part of our history and therefore valuable.

it's funny, but i always felt uncomfortable entering a church when i was a witless, being born in it was programmed into me that this was a place of false religion.. today i went to visit a beautifull church in stone-in-oxney in kent (uk).
this church houses a roman altar that was used in the worship of mithras, before christianity came to england.. in the old days i would have taken this as proof that the church is just an extension of pagandom etc.
etc.. but today i was pleased to see the artifact safely housed,to appreciate the beautifull building within which it sits, and to feel some 2000 years of man trying to get closer to god.. the altar,or "stone" which gives the place its name is unique, and only in the church to keep it safe, not least from the vagaries of english weather!.

i thought rather than everyone start their own topic relating their experience of attending the memorial, we keep it simple and have just one thread.
if anything, it's saves bandwidth.. i will be going to the memorial tonight and will post my experiences afterwards.. all the other memorials i attended, i was an active jw, so this will be my first experience as a submarine witness.
it's weird being on the other side so to speak.
I seem to remember that in my last years as a dub, an announcement from the GB would be read. In fact I think I got to read one at my last Memorial which I reluctantly presided over.
I was SOOOO happy last night to not have to consider attending. I hope never to go to one of those crazy non-celebrations again. I got some real spiritual nourishment at home relaxing, watching CSI, and enjoying a home cooked meal. At first I thought about passing by the Hall to see old friends going in and out. Then I thought, why lose a good parking spot! Anyway, that's my .02

sales of bethel premises and transfer of millions to brooklyn ?.
just heard a very surprising and unbelievable news which i want to share with you and ask whoever has the right connections higher up in the borg, if this kind of news can be double checked for reliability.. .
the source of the information is believed to be reliable as it seems to be intimately related to some officials of the branch.
According to what was written in 2000 / 2001 or so, the GB was separated from the Watchtower legal corporations so they could concentrate exclusively on "spiritual matters". How is it then that the GB is the one to send a letter to the Madrid branch that their printing services are no longer required (i.e., a business decision)?
He makes a good point. However, what should one expect from a group that calls itself a GOVERNING body? It obvious that that separation was legalistic cover for them be able to say and do what they want and distance themselves when they need.

...but i thought it deserved its own thread.. there is a letter from the madrid bethel branch to all spanish congregations posted here (written in spanish, of course):.
This kinda makes sense. Downsizing, less interest in Western countries, the global recession, WT has to be struggling to find ways to keep the "preaching work" going and not go bankrupt.

every once in a while i see some jws that live far away and they may come by for business or just to say hello, at my work.
if they don't know that i've stopped going, i don't bring it up.. do you feel the need to tell jws you haven't seen in a long time that you no longer go to meetings or believe?.
I like the "no mess" policy. I don't see many dubs who haven't heard that I left. But when I have I've acted normal. A problem does come up though when some ask "what congo am I in" and "what I thought of the latest WT". I don't like faking it. So it may get harder to hide it as I won't be a hypocrite.

i took the advice of some here and "went to the press".
here's the resulting article: http://www.monticellotimes.com/articles/2009/04/09/community/879zimmerman.txt.
i think it turned out rather well..
Wow, this is This is very well written and accurate. The picture will probably tip the dubs off when they first see it. But it doesn't matter, many will read this out of curiosity. It makes me think about using some of my connections here in NYC to get a story in some of the local papers.

The latest dub explanation:
***
w898/1p.8JesusandaRichYoungRuler***
“Why do you call me good?” Jesus replies. “Nobody is good, except one, God.” Likely the young man uses “good” as a title, so Jesus lets him know that such a title belongs only to God.

How does this writer know how many names are in that database? What are this person's credentials????? Hmmm.

thought i'd pass this on.
the author is kyria abraham who is one of my ff friends.
i'm sure she would be glad to ad anyone and would love support at her book signings.. .
BTTT. I think this book captures the experience I had being raised as a dub. Not everyone will get it, but it's another blow to the WT spin that they are perfect and can solve people's problems. They often make more than they solve. I think too that many will relate to Kyria's marriage experiences. I know I did. My situation was somewhat different, but there are MANY similarities.
