Pioneer School - Class Photo
by Mattieu inhi all, at the conclusion of my pioneer school we took a group photo with the instructors.
we had to chip in $$ to hire a professional photographer (who was a brother).
it is a custom with all pioneer schools in australia to take a class photo with the instructors (much like gilead photo).. do they do that in any other countries?

I liked quite a few of the medley's being that my Mom forbade any other music. But the words, wow they're so corny now that I'm out.

Flashes of SH**TE !
by iknowall558 inw t b & t s.. in my opinion this stands for we teach bull & talk shit.
anyone have any "favourites" from amongst the many flashes of light from the org.?
i've chosen this one........rev 14 : 20 this apparently referred to the publishing of the finished mystery book and foretold that the 1600 furlongs represented the distance from where it was written (scranton, pennsylvania), to where it was published (wt headquarters in brooklyn, ny)...provided you travelled by way of the lackawana railroad and hobo ken's ferry.

Mattieu, Ray Franz refers to the 1600 furlongs in ISOCF by a direct photocopy of the book. I have a copy of the Finished Mystery and checked it for myself. That's what they said allright. It's hilarious because they go right down to the number of feet from the subway station to 117 Adams St front entrance. You would think that someone would have realized they were morons just for coming up with such BS.

I'll never forget how this was justified in talks. The concept was something like, well while you may never have helped anyone into "the truth", and may even feel Jehovah should have brought the end by now, your bros and sisters have been bringing people in in (insert a third world country or impoverished area in your country), so therefore aren't we thankful for God's mercy even if we personally have not seen results? (Cue applause) Then there is the one Steve Lett uses, how your being out there gave the people you met a chance to show where they stand on the issue of "universal sovreignty". (Cue ooohs and aaahs on the deep thought)

Ireland - appeal in JW blood transfusion case abandoned
by Mickey mouse ini'm not sure if this story has already been posted but it's interesting.. a witness woman in ireland was given a blood transfusion and the appeal against the hospital has been dropped:.
"legal representatives for a jehovahs witness have abandoned an appeal into what is believed to be the first instance in ireland where a court ordered a blood transfusion to be given to an adult against her will...".

Good. Makes me think they realized they might not win. Actually they have acknowledged this in general regarding minors. Of course it may be better that they fight these cases. It shows the world how uncaring they really are.

Long term effects of Armageddon images
by Lady Lee insomeone i know is having a hard time with anxiety attacks.
she hasn't been a jw since a teen.
recently she has started seeing a therapist.

This is one of those threads that helps me understand myself and why anxieties I felt have disappeared in inverse proportion to my distance from the Witness religion. To comment on some items early on in this thread that I found interesting:
Many emergency planners do recommend keeping at least one month worth of food around and rotating the stock so that it is fresh. Such a stash is not likely to be needed as we live in a pretty secure world, at least in First World countries. But it's better safe than sorry I suppose.
While images are the clear offender when it comes damaging young minds, let's face it, some of the raw info in the Bible is just as nasty. When we as a species allow for the possibility that religious texts like the Bible may have simply been written by sadistic, narrow minded, cultish, psychotic, substance abusive, uneducated by our standards, and mysoginistic men, we will have gone a long way towards advancing the state of humankind as a whole.

IF THIS IS TRUE IT IS MASSIVE!!!!!!!!
by Hobo Ken ini was speaking to a family member who is still a jw in very good standing and she told me that last week she was told by an elder of very good repute in my old congregation this:-.
he has been told that any of the current governing body when they die will not be replaced!!!!!!!!!!.
i cannot even begin to take this in!.

Hearsay is all that is. Not until something like that were in writing would it be holy writ. Actually rumors of that have spread for a while. The operating philosophy is that control would shift to members of the great crowd. The bringing in of the "given ones" and the enhanced role of the branch offices were all supposed moves in that direction. But nowhere have I ever seen any direct indication that the GB are ready to ride off into the proverbial sunset. I have a feeling it would fuel so much speculation on when the end is coming that it would become an embarassment. But it's great to fantasize....

OOPS!! ELDER Resigns From His Job After Manager Is DF'd!
by african GB Member inan elder from a nearby cong allegedly rendered a resignation letter to company director ("with immidiate effect")after his departmental manager(a former jw) was df'd..... apparently this "brother" didn't even think twice about giving up his job, even though we are in a recession...... he decided to put "kingdom interests" first, ( matthew 6:33).. is this really what jehovah wants his "people" to go through?.

I think with his stories afgbm just has a way of satirically drawing attention to the JW behaviors that make little sense. Maybe like Jesus, you know speaking in parables.

I'm so sorry for your loss. This is not common for JWs. Most JWs just have a low level malaise thing going on. Its unfortunate and something many of us have dealt with. Feel free to avail yourself of whatever help you need, both here and secularly.
