There is no question that she fell for a lot of harmful vices that the dubs try to keep people away from. Perhaps if she could have gotten the sense of what the dubs were saying in these areas, her life at that time may have been different. But it and she didn't. And that's the point. This is an account of HER life growing up as a dub. It's not good or bad, it just is. And it makes the point that WT is not the perfect organization it pretends to be. It is not as successful as it thinks in helping people out of difficulties. Many times it causes these difficulties. That being said, different people will react differently to it. That's why a wide variety of books and materials are needed so that different sorts of people can relate to leaving the JW's and perhaps leave themselves. Or if they have left, can find comfort in that they are not alone in their feelings and experiences.

Absolutely fantastic. Enjoying work, reenrolled in school for the Fall, getting into local politics, fathering my daughter, hoping to get more into my hobbies by year's end, only thing missing is a good relationship with a lovely lady.

Crazy JW chaperon Stories
by superman inthe jw's must not trust their members or at least don't have too much faith in them when it comes to being alone around member of the opposite sex.
i can remember one time in particular from when i was a teenager that still makes me laugh today.. when i was younger i used to go out in service on a regular basis during the week when i had summer break.
one time when i met for service there were only two other people that showed up.

Boy do these stories bring back memories. My first serious GF and I spent many months in service with my riding in the back seat. OMG, how stupid that seems now. Even when I wasn't chaperoned I was messed up by these insane and unnatural standards.

Young People Ask - Ans/Work - Now that you're older...
by Confucious ini think i was 22 when that book came out.. and i remember the being at the convention remembering how much i appreciated it.. and even at that age - feeling like that book was for me.. but how do you feel about it today?.
i don't have a copy of it anymore, but i do remember it being one of the better books.. thoughts?.

You know parts of it (the Youth book-red) were. But I could DEFINITELY have done without all the sexual prudishness. It really messed with my head and still does occasionally. There are many better ways to educatea young person than those books. BTW-I love the Seven Habits book. I'd never heard of this one for teens. I want to read it and if it looks good, let my daughter read it.

I find that cutting and pastng from wtlib ruins my post format if I put my comments in too so therefore this post. I was actually looking for the comment they once made that the first century Christians were not as organized as modern day dubs are. But I can't find it right now. (If someone else does I'd love to know where it is so I can bookmark it.) But the above one does show that they acknowledge occasionally that there could not have been the type of structures in the first century that are in place today. Funny what they refuse to recognize is that they are very much like the Catholic Church minus the accoutrements and titles preceding the names.

A Unified Congregation
We should not think of that first-century congregation as “a world-wide, universal, organized society such as we mean nowadays when we talk about the catholic church,” says The New Dictionary of Theology. Why not? “For the simple reason,” it says, “that such an organized, universal society scarcely existed.”
No one can rightly disagree with the fact that the early Christian congregation bore no resemblance to the institutionalized church systems we see today. But it was organized. Individual congregations did not operate independently of one another. They all recognized the authority of a governing body in Jerusalem. That body—consisting of the apostles and older men of the Jerusalem congregation—helped to preserve the unity of the congregation as the “one body” of Christ.—Ephesians 4:4, 11-16; Acts 15:22-31; 16:4, 5.
What happened to that one true congregation? Did it become the mighty Catholic Church? Did it evolve into the denominational, fragmented Protestant church system that we see today? Or did something else happen?

bohm, what you just said is so true. And there will probably always be these cults. But educating oneself is the best defense.
What bothers me most and what is most dishonest about their editorial policy as mentioned earlier is that they don't state the changes. They just sneak them in. Newspapers, books, most published works make changes. It is after all their right. But they often state very clearly that corrections have been made and what they are. When you couple WT's lack of transparency with the fact that in almost every case the changes cover over some embarassing prophetic nightmare this amounts to intellectual dishonesty.

Yes definitely for me. I miss my old friends but time does heal some wounds a bit. Fortunately my parents don't shun me. But even if they did as Jesus said I've gained brothers and sisters and even parents among people who don't shun me because we don't always agree. The world is a GREAT place to be in! Funny I'm not a christian but some of what he's alleged to have said has meaning for me.
