I feel I was completely on topic with my viewpoint. The perception of the massage therapist as sex worker is still out there. That is the view the original poster expressed and I must agree that the public perception is still an obstacle that all law abiding massage therapists must deal with.
When they work with a doctor, when they join the Chamber of Commerce, when they offer their services to charity, when they make videos, write books and otherwise openly invest in their community and bring their services out into the light of day, this dispels the gossip that they are doing anything but legit massage in their offices.
I commend those of you who are doing such a wonderful job to bring legitimate therapeutic massage to our towns and cities. I believe it is a healing practice and welcomed alternate therapy.
I wish you good luck in your careers!
I hope my statements assure you I am for you and not against you in your success.

When 1600 hours or more are required for licensing by every town and state it will weed out those persons who do not take their careers seriously, and then the perceptions of the public will be forced to change and those of you who are serious massage therapists will gradually gain the respect you deserve.

You are the ignorant one Brent if you think society respects massage therapists.
Go to your local city licensing dept and ask them what category they place massage therapists.
They are lumped in with the hospitality businesses.
There are medical massage therapists who perform medical massage under the professional license of a
medical doctor or licensed chiropractor who is required by law to be onsite during the massage treatments. Often massages performed in a professional office atmosphere of this kind are done during normal business hours and with many other people in the office and are usually done partially draped.
This may be the kind of massage you are offering to the public which after years receives respect and praise.
City officials are concerned more with the massage studios and hair and nail salons with back rooms where no medical supervision is involved.
JWs who naively enter this profession soon become aware of its pitfalls. Im afraid I dont buy into your disbelief and shock at my suggestion that massage therapy has its dangers and challenges to integrity.

I think the danger is that massage therapy requires very little schooling for the great responsibility and challenges the therapist takes on. Being alone in a room with a naked adult for an hour or longer requires the highest ethics. This is much longer than the 15 minutes alloted to doctors who usually have an accompanying nurse in the room when examining female patients.
And clients go from therapist to therapist looking for the weak ones who will succumb to their suggestions and advances. Its not just the therapist who can be the predator.
The profession is fraught with spiritual danger.
And its been my observation that massage therapists are about as respected as Palm Readers by society.
If the therapist can keep his or her pants on and force the clients to behave too I think it would be a really lucrative and satisfying career. -

Congratulations Lloyd! You said something the other day about getting it done and you really did it!
And really thats all there is to it! There shouldnt be so much drama to it and emotions.
My God! You are just quitting a business anyway!
Walk away and be happy, smile, and laugh at how fortunate you are not to waste another day of precious life in that creepy organization!
I read your comments and feel you are going to do wonderful things in the world and help alot of people here too to get out of that org and never look back!
Welcome to your new life of freedom Lloyd,

Catholics
by BlackSwan of Memphis inso can someone please enlighten me why when people come out with their catholicism others find it necessary to remind them of their pope worshipping, mary praying traditions (sic)?.

My husband and I are renting a room in a home where the landlady is going through the RICA too.
I have read her literature and looked up Jeff's site exjwcatholics.com
I must say I am impressed with the Catholic church's efforts to change its image and distance itself from its past blunders.
I do believe individuals can change and so I guess I believe organizations can change. Heaven knows we all wish the WTS would change!
I am glad for her to find a faith that calms her and makes her feel closer to God. People want that.
I want that. But now I am very cautious and suspicious of organizations claiming to represent God.
I may never join another religion again. I think at best they are stepping stones to a full personal relationship with God like Enoch had and Noah and Moses, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and Jesus had.
You dont need a church to have that. You dont need a building or a body of elders or a book bag or time slip, or a rosary or incense or prayer rug. All that is required is a mind and heart filled with deep respect for the creator's will which is clearly discerned by observing his beautiful creation. -

"Stumbling Stones" in the congregation
by JH ini remember a brother telling me many years ago, that he could have bought a beautiful fur coat to his wife, but he didn't want others in the congregation to be jealous.
that was the mentality back then.
no one wanted to be a stumbling stone.. gee, today you see acuras and expensive cars all around the kingdom hall parking lot.

I basically agree with the principle behind the admonition. A true lover of God would want to inspire others to godly thoughts, not kindle envy and desires for material things of this world.
But in truth, a true lover of God is not jealous of another's wealth or circumstance.
Godliness is a deeply personal attitude and not confined to those of little means.
Even rich people can be godly. Even people driving Jags and Porches and living in the mansion on the hill can be godly and have God's blessing.
I dont think God cares too much what you drive or where you live as long as your heart is pure towards Him.
....that is if he exists. -
