''there is no reason to think that they [demons] cannot possess persons today.. this is not to say that all those mentally sick are so possessed, for they are not.. mentally sick persons, however, in their weakened state, may present more vulnerable targets for their assaults and invasions.. some show evidence of demon possession, whereas others show evidences of merely mental sickness or nervous breakdown.

  i for one would not want to work with people with mental illness or depression just in case they were possessed by some of those pesky spirits.. .

  Can a JW take a transfusion of hemoglobin if the count is low?

  That's what I thought. I believe the 97% is dry content and it is 35% of total content including water (Wikipedia).

  Do hospitals actually transfuse just hemoglobin or do they hook you up to a bag of red cells for ease?

  What does a pint bag of hemoglobin look like compared to a pint bag of red cells or a pint bag of whole blood?

  i don't know if i, or smoeone else, shared this before but i thought it funny and odd enough to share again.

  imagine if you will, if we actually presented what we all know to be true about the beliefs of the jw's at the door when we were witnesses.

  after all, jesus message was to be simple; simple enough that even the poorest and most uneducated would be able to accept him and convert to christianity, no matter the flavor of kool-aid we were pushing.

  richard dawkins closes down his free-thinking/free-thought site (www.richarddawkins.net) for 30 days to reconfigure it 'because too many morons were contributing drivel' (he doesn't put it quite like that!

  ) he is then surprised because those self-same contributors call him everything under the sun (i won't repeat the names flung at him on our ultra -refined boards).

  he now wants the site more or less 'peer-reviewed' (by analogy with papers to learned/scientific journals having to be vetted by vips).

  Dear Kingdom Publishers:

  We are very much aware of the rapid growth in the size and number of our congregations. Everywhere, it seems, new Kingdom Halls are being built, and in many cases these soon become overcrowded. It is as foretold: Jehovah is ‘speeding up’ the ingathering in this time of the end.—Isa. 60:22.

  Another evidence of this organizational growth is the recent purchase and remodeling of an old synagogue, with a seating capacity of 1,200, here in New York city. It is the second circuit assembly hall in this city, serving its share of the more than 260 congregations in the metropolitan area.

  Global expansion of the Kingdom work in more than 200 countries has created a tremendous demand on the Bethel family for more and more literature. To cope with the demand, Brother Knorr wrote you in February inviting more young single brothers to apply for Bethel service. So far, more than 900 have written in for applications! What a wonderful demonstration of loyalty on the part of God’s people—to ‘offer themselves willingly for Jehovah’s service’! The opportunity to volunteer is still open; more workers are regularly needed.—Ps. 110:3.

  To accommodate the anticipated increase in personnel of the Bethel family, it has been necessary to reduce the size of the Gilead School. So the present class, No. 57, is only about half the size of previous classes in recent years.

  Meanwhile, the construction at Watchtower Farm is moving ahead at full speed. All indications are that by the end of 1974 the new factory building will be completed, considerably ahead of the original estimated date. For some time now, ten rotary presses in a finished portion of the Farm factory have been printing most of the Watchtower and Awake! magazines for this country, permitting an increase in the bound book production here in Brooklyn.

  So let us look to Jehovah for greater expansion in the future, and let us pray that he continues to bless those remaining loyal down to the end.

  Likewise it is possible to spend valuable time speculating on matters concerning the future. One might ask,

  In what year will Armageddon begin?

  What will be the medium of exchange in the new world?

  Will women now past the age of childbearing share in the procreation mandate?

  If dedicated parents and children happen to die before Armageddon, which parent will raise the resurrected children, since resurrected mates will not remarry? (Luke 20:35)

  These are typical questions to which Jehovah has not provided answers at this time. Do you think it wise for Christians to take time from more profitable Bible study to speculate on the answers? Consider the dangers involved.''
