remember those stories about demonic possession?
by LuckyNun inand how people would swear that things moved by themselves and hovered around?
well, i wish my stuff was possessed so it would move itself to my new apartment for me.
it's 116 degrees here.

I'm pleased to hear that some of you can laugh about it (genuinely) as I until I found this board I really hated myself for having been 'out' for years and still being irrationally scared of things like that (on bad days). I was so relieved to read KatieK's posts! I have tried to get myself out of that way of thinking, and know fine well that it's 'programming' but it's bloody hard to shake when you developed all these fears as a kid...I still can't watch some supernatural films in case it 'triggers' a whole host of stupid panic! How sad am I!!? It was a major breakthrough for me to watch the Blair Witch Project!!

Depression and JW's
by damselfly ini don't wish to hijack the chronic fatigue thread so i started this one.
when i was a teen i suffered from severe depression brought on by emotional abuse, sexual abuse and the jw way of handling it.
i couldn't physically get out of bed, didn't know what day it was, had no desire to eat and dropped below 100 lbs.

In my cong it was def the case that if you were depressed then you were doing something wrong/were weak etc. Even though some JWs would be kind and supportive, the consensus was that it was somehow the individual's 'fault' or that they weren't trying hard enough. I don't think I really realised I was depressed, but I def developed a bit of an OCD, which remains to this day when I'm anxious or stressed and is clearly linked to 'ideas' I was exposed to in my JW youth...

I'm for and against, depending on the circumstance. (I'm very indecisive!). Ultimately, I come down on the pro-choice side, but I don't think it should ever be used as a 'fall-back' measure if people can't be responsible enough to used contraception (and this is def the case with some people...)
There are lots of issues surrounding the whole debate too, like the morning-after pill etc...

One of the 144,000
by out of the box ini wanted to share this story.. we were (many years ago) going out in service.
i was in the car with annointed one driving, his wife and the person who had 'brought me into the faith' and my daughter.
we went through an intersection where this old man (annointed one) was not paying attention.

I didn't know women could be annointed..,? My memory of these things isn't that fantastic - it's been a long time since I was 'in' and this board has brought back memories that had been filed away in the darkest recesses of my mind!

Person from the stone age
by greendawn inif you met someone from the stone age of five thousand years ago, that was resurrected to live in our times and world what would you say and do for him/her?
.
remember our world with all the recent inventions of the last 100 years or so will be unrecognizable to them.

I would let him/her watch 'Les Visiteurs' (sp.?) and hope that he/she would see the connection!

Movies to make a JW THINK
by M.J. ini've heard various suggestions of movies to show a dub.. those of us with a spouse / family in the borg might find it pretty useful to rent such movies as just another way of chipping away at the indoctrination, or drawing attention to the wts control tactics.. one movie i saw which was somewhat helpful was one called "equilibrium", which was suggested on this board a while back.
its about a society that has acheived peace and order by requiring everyone to repress their emotions through sedatory drugs.
the good thing about this one was when it showed how everyone was so indoctrinated to follow the directives of the organization in charge, with every person keeping an eye on everyone else.

I'd love to see "Uitgesloten". Does anyone know if it's available on DVD (with English subtitles)?
