I think going door to door and sharing your religion is soooo incredibly stupid and arrogant beyond belief! After that shameful experience I will not allow anyone to ever again coerce me into doing anything I dont feel is ethical or kind or in good taste.

What if a religious org. came knocking on active JW's door? Reaction?
by whyizit inwhat if a couple of bible-believing christians were going door-to-door?
and what if they were preaching the kingdom of god?
what if they had biblesalone and were not handing out any other literature?

Is There Anything Positive About Being A Jehovah's Witness?
by minimus ini recently went to a wedding and the father of the bride that (re)married a (worldly) man said to me, "the only thing that i can say about raising our kids as witnesses was at least they got a good foundation.
look at our kids.
they're good kids".

No. Being a JW there is no advantage over any other person. There are plenty of God fearing moral people out there in the world who are not JW. Many are excellent speakers and sales persons too. Many take the time to read the Bible and attend church regularly. Often they are generous donors to charities. They give of their time and money to help the needy and poor and to help them learn to read. As many of you know there is no advantage to spending years and years preaching for this group. If you are having trouble and you sin, you are kicked out. "Hit the road!" I guess after much thought I can truly say the one positive thing I got from being a witness is I learned to clean houses rather fast. I learned to blitz clean a house in two hours and still charge the householder the fee for a three hour cleaning.

Yes, thankyou Zico for the fine review. All that dreadful info in only a few short minutes! It spared us all the sacrifice of our weekend and a sore butt.

Will the wts face a Muslim backlash over the new tract?
by fullofdoubtnow inthey do, after all, classify all religions apart from theirs as false, and we've seen in the last few days that it doesn't take much to inflame the more militant factions of islam.
there's a large muslim community around here, and i can't see some of them taking kindly to being labelled a false religion.. this may not be the best time for the wts to be distributing such "information", but i expect they will go ahead, oblivious as to the sort of reaction it may provoke.
i hope that nothing much comes of this campaign, but in the sensitive times in which we all live, i can't help wondering....

Perhaps the WTS is taking advantage of the political/religious climate to encourage the Great T to start as a sort of "bring it on" mentality.

Oh boy! I got an email this morning from a JW out of the blue and then I couldnt get on this site! Yikes! Right now I am writing from the local library like a kid hiding her emails from her parents!
So it was all a problem at the site and not some JW geek's trick?
I will believe it when I get home!

What is the most unique name you've encountered?
by Why Georgia inthis question comes to mind right now because i seem to be surrounded by pregnant women.
3 of the mom's in my sons' kindergarten class of 12 - are pregnant and in the other classes i notice a similar trend.
it's not a large school - maybe 60 kids max between the preschool and kindergarten.

My dad used to laugh about the name of a guy he went to school with in the 30s
Cecil Lester Norsnortal! They called him Cecilesnorsnortal!
I've never fogotten the name!
My g-mothers name was Zella Temperance (and the last name)
My aunt and uncles names were Malcolm, Maudy and Robert
My husband favors the names Angus and Heather.
They would go great with our last name which is of Scottish origin.
I once was crazy about the name Heidianna.....but not now.
Do you like it? -

Shaking with adrenalin, fear and anger
by Crumpet innever was a glass of wine so keenly anticipated as this one.. an hour ago i was sitting at the station waiting for a train and having my first cigarette of the last few days.
i don't usually smoke in public except in bars, but this was the end of a difficult and tiring week for me being my first week back at work and having hjad to do it all on crutches.. when all of a sudden some 60+ old nutter started yelling at me.
he said you don't know what you are doing to yourself- you will die horribly of cancer.

The sacrifice of a child, for pioneer hours.
by Gill inchildren are an expendable part of the the wtbts.
if they're worldly children, they're insignificant as they're going to die anyway when armageddon comes.
if they're jw children, they only survive because of their parents 'good standing' and then their needs must always come after their parents 'god' the demands of the almighty wtbts.. i was walking home from school this morning past the home where about 16 years ago, a single mother and her tiny little boy used to live.

Dont beat yourself up too much Gil. Alot of us are alot more aware of what is right and wrong in regard to the welfare of children these days. Education regarding the proper treatment of children and the elderly and prisoners and the retarded has been featured in the news all over the world of late.
New laws are passed and new guidelines are formed everyday.
Like most of us you are telling yourself "the next time I will do the right thing to protect the helpless"
For me, what comes to mind is the experience of not standing up to a doctor once who dropped a latex glove on the dirty floor and then used it to do a rectal examination on a loved one.
When he dropped the glove and picked it up and proceeded to put it on, I stopped him and said "Doctor, you just dropped that glove on the dirty floor!"
He looked at his student doctor (who then looked at the ground) and then at me and stated blankly that the area he was investigating was not a sterile area!
I was stunned and unable to speak or move! I guess I treated him with the same respect I would an elder in those days!
To this day I accompany all my loved ones to the doctors and prepare myself to defend them against abuse.
I should have ripped the glove from his hand and gottem him another.
But I only have the future to improve. I can do nothing about the past.
Fortunately my relative suffered no adverse effects. -

Pat Robertson tells town, "Don't expect God to help you"
by sir82 inhttp://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9995578/
i thought evangelism was supposed to make god more appealing to people?
the irony is, most jws will point accusing fingers at this representative of babylon the grape, but not realize that their own message preached every saturday morning is essentially the same: "worship god our way, or don't come crying to us when armageddon comes"
