I never thought that I could get choked up over a cyber-hug.... But I have received several on this board, and I have appreciated every one!!!! It's amazing to me that people who I have never met care enough to post a reply to my problems. And I've only been here a few weeks! People helping one another in their times of trouble, people laughing and crying together... that's showing love of neighbor... even if it is your cyber-neighbor!! Hugs to all!!!!!! GGG |

Everything I Ever Needed To Know... I learned at the Kingdom Hall
by POs Son intoday my mother, a devoted jw of 40+ years, expalined to me that studying the watchtower publications "taught her" how to study!
she went on to describe how the weekly watchtower study taught her how to truly study, by underlining the most important part of the paragraph.
funny, i do not recall that as the primary method of study for the rest of the world - most of the textbooks i have read did not have a numbered set of questions at the end of each paragraph.

Didn't they also say that a person could get the equivalent of a college education just by reading the awake magazine regularly?
Yup..... and that you didn't need to read any 'secular' magazines, because the Awake was so informative on every subject! I always wondered how the authors became so 'informed' if they didn't read 'secular' magazines themselves. Hmmmmmm......

How many of you had assembly parts?
by rebel8 ini was just remembering i had a part in an assembly part once.
i was a fresh new pioneer (who never, ever made my time, lol) just out of high school.
they gave me a brief part to say i was glad i didn't go to college and how i turned down a good job to pioneer.

I was on the Circuit assembly twice and the District assembly once. Twice interviewed as a 'good example' as a pioneer, once for an experience I had in service. As far as college education.... sorry I have to comment, this is a sore point with me.
Rebel, I can understand you being pressured to pioneer, but when you graduate, you're an adult. Did they hold a gun to your head? If you wanted to go to college, you could have. It's easy to blaim others for our lives, but taking responsibilty for our choices is a bit harder. I agree that Witnesses are not pro-college in any sense, but they will not make you do something unless you allow them.
I secretly applied to college when in high school, despite the fact that each application cost money that I didn't have and the fact that I knew there was no way I would be able to go. Yes, I pioneered right out of high school, but people who are emotionally abused do all kinds of things that they don't want to. Usually they don't even understand why they do what they do.
The emotional abuse that I experienced would have been 100 times worse if I had put my foot down and said I was going to college. I was incapable of doing that at the time.... I was 17 years old, for crying out loud!! I also had siblings that I cared deeply about, and did not want to make their home situation worse than it already was.
Of course, emotionally abusive people are never happy, no matter what the victim does. I was accused of being the world's worst daughter, even though I was pioneering, working full time, paying a huge chunk of that to my mother, taking care of the housework when I arrived home at midnight, and being moral support for my siblings. I did finally take drastic action to get out of the house, but not until a few years later.
I agree that people need to take responsibility for and control of their lives. But I am referring to adults here, not teenagers in abusive or even controlling homes. Once a kid is out on their own and removed from the situation, they can begin to pick up the pieces and take control. And they should, imo.
My point: JW kids who do not go to college often have quite a bit going on behind the scenes. I know. I was one of them.

WHAT DID YOU THINK OF APOSTATES ?????????+
by vitty inwhen you were still in the org, did you ever wonder what the apostates were saying?
the society would just say lies and half truths.i always assumed it was about the trinity, and other religious stuff.
i thought they were exjws who had become born agains !.

I also thought apostates were the people picketing the district conventions when I was little... Bad, scary people, I could practically see the demons flying around them!! If you had told me then that I would be considered an apostate one day, I would have died from the shock. GGG (of the Love To Be an Apostate Class)

Which meetings did you hate the most?
by JH inout of the 5 weekly meetings, here are the ones i hated the most.. in order.
1. theocratic ministry school ( i hated speaking in public) got me so nervous.. 2. service meeting ( too much crap and statistics and presentations).
3. the book study ( just a waist of time ).

I always felt sorry for the kids at the meetings. They got in trouble for not sitting still and quietly, something so against a child's nature, and some parents were absolute tyrants with these poor kids. I remember when my kids were little, they started to announce that children should be paying attention at the meetings and parents should not bring toys or even paper for the kids to draw on...... I ignored them. I remember when my son was really small, we were at a district convention, and at the end of the day, after the prayer, everyone claps........ He looked at me with a mixture of confusion and joy, and said, "Is EVERYONE happy that it's over?" I just about died laughing!
