A revised Revelation book? I would really like to see that. Just so I can see the changes myself. It's like 1984!!
You can see it.... Get one of the first Revelation books released, and then compare it to the new paperback version they have out now. I guarantee you that there are changes. And if you do, let us know what you find!!!!! GGG

If they are going to study the Revelation Book again, the conductors are going to have to get on the c.d. or have enough bound volumes to research what is "new light" as opposed to "old light", so they aren't accused of being "false teachers", trying to "confuse the flock".
Actually, I have it on very good authority from someone who attended the summer convention in a Scandanavian country that one of the "new" releases was a revised Revelation book! So I'm sure that there have been changes over the years in the "new" editions of the English Revelation book, too, but I can't even stomach the thought of comparing the new and old versions to find them......... Does anyone know anything about what the WTS has changed over the years in the Revelation book??

a post about caffeine and coffee in the "what if the wts banned alcohol" thread jogged my memory.... back in the 70s sometime (i can't remember if it was pre-75 or post-75) a rumor started circulating around our area that at the next convention the wts was going to add caffeine and caffeine products (coffee, coke, etc) to the list of banned substances (tobacco, blood).
of course, it never happened, but for a couple of months the rumors were hot and heavy.
the rumors were easily believed by a lot of the dubs because of the "up" effects caffeine can give you and besides, the mormons banned it, there had to be a reason.
If the WTS banned coffee, the rank and file would put on their blinders and obey, most of them anyway...
There was an article in the mags not too terribly long ago about Kona coffee - grown in Hawaii apparantly, and very expensive - and my super-dub mother in law scoured the area, trying to find a store that sold Kona coffee because she read about how good it was in Awake.

just because the watchtower society is wrong doesn't mean that there is no god, nor does it mean there is a god.
it would interesting to now how former members have adjusted thier cosmology, or whether they are now atheists and why.
i personally see religion as a more personal matter, rather than belonging to an organization.
I'm not sure what I believe anymore.
I left the JWs because I realized that they weren't "God's chosen people" like they claimed to be. Studying early Christianity convinced me that no one else is, either. Deeper study of the Bible has convinced me that it isn't inspired by God.
A year ago, just those simple realizations would have freaked me out. Now, I'm sick of people trying to fit God in a box and saying that God wants you to do this or that..... I still believe that God exists, I think, but if he does, I'm sure he's large enough to encompass all types of worship. If he had one certian way he wanted to be worshipped, he would have made it obvious.
For now, I just try to live my life as a good person, love my family, and hope for the best.

for those that don't know, my wife and i moved away from our family and friends to fade away.
my mom and her new uber-elder husband with gb connections have been spreading it around where we are from that he is going to send a couple of elders to my house for spiritual "assistance".
so, everytime an unfamiliar car comes up my driveway a small wave of dread comes over me as the car gets closer.
Things people said to me at the doors had more affect on me than anything I ever heard at a meeting.
I remember once, as a young pioneer, another sister and I went on a return visit of hers. This lady knew her bible, and asked so many questions that we couldn't answer logically.... I can't remember the specifics, but it made a huge impression on me.
When I was struggling with serious doubts, someone made a very pointed comment to me at the door. I didn't realize it at the time, but I was struggling to stay 'mentally' in.... and that comment hit home with me so hard that it slammed the door of the WTS shut for me forever. I wish I could find that lady and thank her personally.
A well chosen comment or question might save a doubting JW. But be careful, ITIS.... even if the specific JW at your door doesn't know who you are at the time, if the elders ever do decide to look you up, what you have said previously might very well be related to the elders then. Don't ask anything that might incriminate you.

several months ago i requested my personal files from the wtsthey refusedi took it to the office of the privacy commission, who sent them a letter requesting the wts send me my informationthe watchtower society refused again saying that they are not covered by the australian privacy act 1988the privacy commission was going to close the case, but i convinced them not to take the wts at their word, so they sent a letter requesting more informationthe wts wrote back that they are not covered, on the technicality that their $16 million australian income comes from donations not turnover.
i just spoke to the privacy commission today and they do not agree with the wts's argument.
they are requesting more information from the australian bethel, and are prepared to put money into legal advice to examine any further argumentation that the watchtower provides.
Good for you for not giving up! I've got my fingers and my toes crossed for you!
