If people should thank Him for the good why not blame Him for the bad

ok the thread on thanking jehovah for keepping a purse safe while left in a shopping cart, got me to thinking.. if we are suppossed to thank god for the good things in life, why is it wrong to blame him for the bad things?.

now i am not saying i blame god for anything.

so please don't comment on this thread saying i am bad person for asking this question, because i don't buy that.. i am just asking why does he only get the praise and none of the blame?.

This question has bothered me for a long time. I still believe in God, I just don't believe he's that intimately involved in my life. Just sort of created everything and let us loose....

When I thank God for something, it's usually for the beauty in nature that I experience... or the ability to feel such deep love for my kids.... not for specific events. If he set everything up, and it's working the way it should, life is wonderful. If it's not going well.... ok, fine, I'm one of the people who doesn't want to think about what that means, I guess.

Suggestions when you are sick

what's a guy to do when he is sick?

i have a head cold with coughing, runny, itchy nose and all around crappy feeling.

i need to stay entertained.

When I'm sick, I don't feel like drinking anything either, but a friend recently suggested the following, which really helped!

Put 2 or 3 big slices of lemon in a mug, fill the mug with boiling water, and add a spoonful of honey. Squish the lemons really well, and drink the 'tea'... if there's any lemon left on the slices when you're done, you can eat that (by now it's sort of sweet from sitting in the water with honey!) It breaks up the congestion and tastes good, (at least I think so), so I find myself actually craving it when I'm congested.

Love the name! And I can soooo relate to your story. I'm fading, but my husband isn't... he's still active. It makes it hard, but it's still a wonderful feeling for me to be OUT of the grip of that mind control! Not needing to fear, every single day, that I wasn't good enough for God, that I wasn't doing enough, that I could be better.... sheesh!!

Welcome to all the other newbies, too... I've been a little sporadic around here lately, but I do eventually notice ya'!! It's great to have you all here.

Should I decorate or not - ?

for the two xmas's we have been 'out', wifey and i have celebrated christmas quietly with the grandkids and a few family.

although we have had a tree - somewhat hidden from view inside - we have not ever put a light or decoration outside.

this week i proposed to wifey that i light the large conifer in the back yard this season.

If you don't mind being DF'd, then go for it! I wish I could... I LOVE Christmas trees, decorations, ornaments, tinsel... do they still make tinsel?? Last time I celebrated Christmas was about 37 years ago, I was a little girl. But last year at Christmas time, I found myself wandering down all the isles in the stores with Christmas decorations, picking out ones I would buy if I could!

I finally made it in to see the Dr.

and what i have is depression.

i've been prescribed prozac and for a short time xanax.

i will only be on the xanax for about two weeks.

Good for you for getting on meds!! Stay in close touch with your doctor til you get the dosage figured out.

And you might try getting outside in the sunlight for a little while every day. I know we're heading towards winter, but sunlight is proven to help some forms of depression. (S.A.D.D., for example).... and hey, fresh air never hurt anyone!

Amazing's airbag (for geeks)

in the thread begun by our very own circus strongman, the amazing dan lurie, i had wondered about the deployment of the airbag and the smell that amazing reported made him think the car was on fire.

a smell so string and convincing that he was highly motivated to exit the vehicle, which he did by literally tearing the door off it's hinges and throwing it across the road.

adrenaline and gamma-irradiated circus strongman muscles make a potent combination!.

I'll have you all know that I personally invented the airbag.... Yep.... li'l ole me.. I was about 9 years old, I'd say... ... My mother was in a car accident (wasn't seriously hurt) and I came up with this elaborate invention where big balloons would pop out every time someone crashed their car, keeping them safe. My younger sister laughed at me and called me names...

I actually used the idea when I was in 6th grade science class, and we had to devise a way to throw an egg off the 3rd story school roof without it breaking. I put my egg in a little cardboard box with 4 balloons surrounding it..... my egg survived!

When I first left the JWs I could barely bring myself to say the name Jehovah. The name was like nails on a chalkboard to me. My husband found it very offensive that I only referred to 'God'. But it felt disrespectful to me, and it reminded me too much of the JWs.

Now, I am much farther removed from the JWs, and I also wonder how intimately involved God is in my life... so if I'm talking to a JW, I say Jehovah. It doesn't bother me much anymore. I still prefer 'God', though.

If Money Were No Object, What Hobby(s) Would You Pursue?

i'd probably have a pretty well stocked backyard machine shop, complete with lathe(s), milling machine, welding gear, etc.

i'm a fitter and turner by trade, so it kind of makes sense...

I love to travel, so I'd travel all the places I've dreamed about seeing.... And I'm not too fond of airports, so I'd have a private jet (hey, money is no object you said, right?!)

And I'd learn glassblowing... that has always fascinated me. Hmmm... I actually have a whole list of things I'd persue... how many lifetimes do I get?

so i just registered and i thought i should say something about myself instead of just lurking about.

i'm 21 years old and i left the the jw's when i was 18. i was born into the religion so it's been really hard getting use to things.

my story is pretty complicated and for some safety reasons i can't say to much.
