When 1 parent leaves the truth. What matters have had to take a stand on?

in my own case, i have let my wife take the kids to the meetings and on the field service.

i have issues with even this but for peace sake, i have let her do it without complaining.

but over what matters have you put your foot down with your spouse?

I think it depends on what your status is and what you want to accomplish. Are you DF'd or DA'd, or just trying to fade? Are you trying to get your spouse out too? Trying to keep your marriage together if at all humanly possible?

I wanted to fade, to get my kids out, and keep my marriage together. I started fading when my kids were teenagers, and told them the things I had learned about the WTS. They decided for themselves that they did not want to be JWs when they were grown. But while they live at home, they attend the meetings and service, etc, with their father. They have never gotten baptized, mostly because I discouraged it when they were young, and because they haven't wanted to now that they are older.

It hurts: How does it feel to leave a cult?

This is exactly how I felt when I left. What also hits home for me is this:

Leaving a cult is like experiencing the death of a close relative or a broken relationship. The feeling is often described as like having been betrayed by someone with whom you were in love. You feel you were simply used.
There is a grieving process to pass through. Whereas most people understand that a person must grieve after a death etc, they find it difficult to understand the same applies in this situation. There is no instant cure for the grief, confusion and pain. Like all grieving periods, time is the healer.

I had invested my entire life in this religion. Every friend I ever had was a JW. We talked about everything under the sun. Now, suddenly, I was all alone and couldn't talk about my doubts or discoveries, for fear of being DF'd. My friends all ignored me, acted like I didn't exist anymore.

"Normal" people can't possibly understand how alone you feel in this situation. My own kids thought I was obsessed with the internet in general, and JWD in particular. If it wasn't for the people I've met here, I would have lost my mind long ago!

these sex laws have bothered me for some time.

until coming here i was unaware of all the pedophilia problems in the org.

the interesting thing about these two bible laws are that if a girl was engaged, and screamed during rape, the rapist only is executed.

Women were viewed as property in that society. The rapist was not considered to be committing a crime against the virgin he raped, but against her father, who would lose the bride price she could bring him if she were no longer a virgin.

These kinds of scriptures always bothered me, too, because of the obvious lack of concern for the feelings of the women who lived back then. The Mosaic law had all kinds of insane rules and regulations that were a hardship for women. How could this law have been given to the people by a loving God, one who loved men and women equally? It made no sense to me.

Just started COC, can't stop crying

i left the wtb&ts 24 years ago after being a full time pioneer for 15 years and have never looked back.

i have no family "in" and have moved very far away from the congro i left.

no one here knows i used to be in this cult.. i experienced the usual shunning from the members of the congro i went to and from surrounding congregations (the city i lived in was big and had several khs), but it didn't last long because i moved away shortly after the "big announcement".

I left because I discovered that the JWs were wrong. I'm not DF'd or DA's, but my lifelong friends have been avoiding me. At first, I thought that it was ok, I understood why they were doing it, etc...

But now, I'm getting really upset about it. Nothing has changed, nothing has been said, I just suddenly have started to react to the fact that my friends are ignoring me. I feel hurt and betrayed and lied to. But I am sure it's some kind of natural progression of events in the acceptance of their behavior. Maybe? Sort of like horrible life's list?

I don't think that bottling up the emotions associated with leaving the JWs is a good thing. I think that we need to experience them and let them run their course in order for us to be as mentally healthy as we can be.

Well, I'm a dad for the first time all over again

when i found this site i considered myself a fader with family still in the cult.

i thought that i should limit personal information so that any lurking scumbag wts reps couldn't track me and jeopardize the relationships i walk on eggshells to maintain with my family.

but something happened last night that caused me to suddenly not give a rats anal orifice what jw's think.. i got called 'daddy'.. my wife and i went through the court system in the early 90's to get her 2nd cousin who was 11 at the time, out of protective services (which was a group home for abused children).
