  convention freaky memories

  Being in charge of a literature release station, and therefore getting to hold the precious "new" publications before the rest of you.

  Cheese Danishes.

  Egg and Ham muffins. (Man I miss those).

  Dying to get back to the hotel and take a swim.

  Cruising the hallways for babes.

  Sitting on the top row and sleeping.

  Remember the release of the new Young People Ask book, and how all the young people had to sit together for the afternoon session? You didn't have to use binoculors to check out babes, they where sitting two rows down......sweet!

  A New Trend for JW Baby Boomers?

  i'm sure this topic has come up before but i'm new here :-) since many of us are offspring of the baby boomer generation or of a generation earlier, i've noticed a trend.

  my parents and their siblings who largely grew up as witnesses are now entering or have entered retirement age.

  although my parents were generally hard working and responsible people, they have little retirement savings.

  Welcome to the board NYCkid.

  I remeber about five years ago my parents finally decided to start thinking about retirement savings. They where quite panicked when they realized that they sat on the verge of being broke when they retired. The strange part about it was that they had realized that this old system might just last long enough for them to have to retire. It was actually a little sad.

  The harsh part about it, is that many older JW's will turn to their children for financial support. The whole anti-college stance may seem a little foolish then.

  How can a window washer support a wife, kids, a congregation, AND two sets of parents? I knew we should have let little Josesph take that college scholorship......

  Hi, welcome to the board. Unfortunately, most of us here have left the JW organization. If you want an actual brainwashed JW answer you should try to find a board which cators more to the kool-aid drinkers. Be forwarned, word your questions very carefully as the average JW is well trained to classify anyone who questions his faith as an "Apostate" and immediatly dismiss anything they say. It's a neat little mind-control trick the JW leaders have instilled in their clones.

  hi everyone, i am supposed to meet with an elder tonight.

  i met several times with him before going over questions (my mother thinks he will restore my evil thinking).

  anyway we have already gone over all of the basics (1874,1914,607 no answer for this one, the un and everything else).

  Third Eye, by pursuing a degree you're on the right path. It sounds like you may just have to suck it up long enough to graduate. You've got it together man, much more than I did when I was younger.

  In the mean time, stick around here. I have found much encouragement and insight from many of the posters here. Far from the hateful, spite filled "apostates" the WTS rants about, most here seem concerned and kind. It's almost like stumbling into a Jehovah's Witness Anonamous meeting.

  Service Meeting Week Starting January 2, 2006

  song 5. note: congregations are not to move their service meeting for the week of january 2 to an earlier night unless the circuit overseer is visiting.

  in every congregation, the convention insert should be considered on the service meeting as scheduled.

  if there is a circuit assembly this week, book study overseers should announce the convention location and dates at their regularly scheduled book studies.

  We used to have our service meetings on Wednesday night, while the rest of our area was on Thursday.

  We always stayed at the posh-est hotel possible!

  as a witness, i knew several men who attempted to grow beards.

  when they did, and attended meetings, it did not take long to be talked to by elders and told, "as spiritual men, they should not display an outward form of rebellion.

  It's just another example of the Witnesses' self created reality. The anti-beard stance was one of the things that got me thinking. Couple that with the requirement to turn in field service time, attend five meetings a week, not smoke, etc. None of these things are mentioned or required by the Bible. Before long you begine to realize that JW's add things on top of the Bible. Since we are not required Biblicaly to obey any edict above and beyond scripture, the WTS's added rules are just silly.

  Fear of Apostates.

  i've been looking at other jw message boards today, and i was struck by the total fear they have of apostates.

  i've been out long enough for it to surprise me.

  these people live in actual dread of "evil apostates".

  I've been looking at other JW message boards today, and I was struck by the total fear they have of apostates. I've been out long enough for it to surprise me. These people live in actual dread of "evil apostates". On the MSN message board listing for denominations, there are many faiths listed, but only the JW sites carry explicit footnote warnings against apostates. It's laughable. Any relativley reasonable person scanning through couldn't help but notice who scared the Witnesses are.

  I feel like they're doing themselves much harm in the court of public impression.
