  i am hoping you can help me.

  i have a very dear friend of over 20 years, who was brought up jw.

  our children are friends and we have vacationed and been like sisters all these years.

  Here is my real dilemma, how do I stay her good friend without becoming a JW?

  I hate to tell you this, but you can't. Once she realizes that you don't want to sign up she will begin to limit her association with you until finally you rarely see her. That is what cults do.

  I know it's a raw deal, imagine if she were your mother or blood sister? Many of us here have suffered through the total emotional loss of very close family members due to this religion. It sucks.

  My advice is to resign yourself to finding a new friend.

  Any Suggestions For An Out of Control Teen Into Sex, Drugs & Alcohol?

  i know of a 15 year old boy who is sliding deeper into substance abuse and everyone around him seems powerless to stop him from his self destructive behavior.

  his parents are divorced, his father barely sees his son, his mother supports her 2 kids in the best way that she can but cannot control her son at all.

  he smokes weed every day, been in trouble regularly with the law, is now selling prescription meds that he steals from family members---basically, he's either going to be dead or in jail if he doesn't get serious help.. any suggestions??

  Dissent became unpatriotic under the last administration. You guys are just on the other side of it now. It's ok, take a deep breath and focus on the important things in life. Before you know it 4-8 years will have passed. Life will continue.

  While I disagree with the premise behind the Tea Party gatherings, I do respect the fact that they are Constitutionally protected expressions of free speech.

  Why is the FBI spying on them? That is utter bullshit! What is this crap where the Feds think they have the right to spy on the citizenry? Is the Obama administration going to continue the same crap the Bushies pulled?

  Things I Don't Like About the Obama Team

  1. Spying on TEA party gatherings.

  2. Refusal to prosecute those who carried out torture under Bush.

  Why does the Watchtower Society always choose harsh legalism over love

  one of the most disturbing aspects of the organisation for me is that the watchtower leaders prefer legalistic, harsh, pharasaical interpretations on a range of doctrines/policies that have the potential to severely harm peoples lives, when there are more loving and reasonable positions/interpretations that could easily be adopted by the governing body without feeling they were betraying the scriptures.. for example:.

  1. blood transfusions a clear no-no scripturally, a gross sin worthy of disfellowshipment (harsh, pharasaical legalistic approach) - or - it's debateable and we can't be sure.

  dogmatism not appropriate in matters of life or death.

  Great thread Yada! What you have written is so true, and so simple. Love conquers all. It's a fact that all great spiritual leaders have recognized and tried to instill in their followers. Unfortunately, religious movements are always high jacked by men who wish to dominate and control other men.

  The GB will never show love in their teachings because their ultimate goal is not the well being of their followers, it is to control and dominate their followers. There is no love involved in that.

  i'm going to weasel a bit on this and just say in opening that it is probably more than you think it is.. too many people imagine that social security is going to take care of them.

  then they are shocked - shocked!

  - to discover that the retirement dreams they had have evaporated.. for the benefit of others, what amount do you think is a reasonable amount to provide for your retirement, and how would that retirement egg be used?.

  I ran the numbers on my personal needs about five years ago and came up with 11 million. That's assuming a monthly needs based income today of three thousand dollars a month. Assuming 3% yearly inflation, that 3 grand becomes 11 grand a month in 45 years. Considering that my annuity savings were just cut in half by the recent stock tumbles, I'm not very optimistic about reaching my goals.

  My new plan is to put my money into land. If a person can own their own land and a home on it, their need for pension income will be substantially decreased.
