You should check out the new SCION cars. They're made by Toyota, and you can get a brand new one LOADED for like 15,000.

ROFLMAO........no far from it! Actually I'm just a punk 28 year old, about to start back at school myself. And I've also seen what happens when people throw away oppurtunities in life. It's pretty simple. Get a good education, get a good job. Make money, save money. Retire early, enjoy the rest of your years in peace......not greeting people at your local Wal-Mart.

Future of the Preaching Work?
by NeonMadman ini wrote the following comments in a response to joelbear's thread on the 4 steps to the new system.
but they were sort of off topic there, and i thought they might be of interest as a separate thread.
at one time, door to door work was highly effective.

My wife tells me that at the D Convention a lot of emphasis was put on going to were the people are to preach. I remember they started that line several years ago, seems they're sticking with it. Couple that with the new handbill stuff from the KM and I see a new approach. Get ready for Dubs in your face at the gym, in the grocery stoor, at your job all with a special handbill.
When the internet fist began to catch on back in the 90's I started preaching online in the Prodigy chat rooms. That was right around the time the "go to where the people are" stuff started. On the internet I had a constant supply of people to talk to. There was no "down time" between doors, and if I needed a break I didn't have to go hang out at McDonalds for 45 minutes; the fridge was in the other room. The Society was already strongly pushing telephone witnessing. Sounds great, right.
However when I started turning in twice as much time as I normally did, the elders started questioning me. They insinuated that I was lieing. I explained to them what I was actually doing....boy was that a no no. Brother, don't you know that the internet was invented by the apostates, they told me. (they didn't say that exactly, but it was very clear that they were scared to DEATH of the internet. They just can't handle the free flow of information.

I think you should get some old Watchtower and Awake articles out, or photocopied. Things like Homosexuality and Bestiality not qualifing as divorcing offences......Put em on the coffee table or next to the toilet, highlight the juicy stuff.

One of the few JW things I still hope happen is the destruction of religion. I hate religion, the root of all mans evil can be traced to some form of religion. Religion is the wool they pull over your eyes, while they convince you that you are chosen. That you are special, approved by God no matter what. Any evil that you can contive God will overlook, because you act for him.

1. Organization.
2. Faith (in the organization, and all her wonderful rules).
3.Unity (which results from the faith aformentioned in the organization)
the trifecta of mind control, baby.

8 years ago my little brother left for college, in pretty much the same situation you are in. He was gonna live in the dorms, but still go to meetings, come home and our parents were gonna help him out. School started and the situation lasted about six months. He got into the college party scene hardcore, his grades dropped, and he was out after 2 semesters. He bought a tent, sleeping bag, and plane ticket for Alaska to work the fishing boats......
My point is that you're about to be exposed to a world where you have no limits. That's not a bad thing. Just use your new freedom for your own good. Don't sell out any long term goals, for short term pleasure. Have fun, LEARN, make something of yourself.
If your parents are anything like mine, you'll never be really free of them until you take a stand. Sounds like they will seek to control you through financial support. Faith in God isn't something that can be bought, or demanded for financial support. Remember that when the guilt trips start......We all make our own way in life, but parents rarely remember that.
Oh and I think the used Honda is the best choice. They're great cars, and since it's a used car someone else has already eaten the depreciation on it.
Good luck at school bro! (Bro as in dude, compadre; not in the JW inclusive to the group sense.....)

Suitable careers for JW children to aim for!
by Gill inthe october the 1st watchtower has interesting views on the education of jw children.. page 30, in which one jw explains how he ended up in ft service says:.
'we did not associate with our school mates but only with those in the congregation who had good spiritual habits.'.
interesting as this shows judgmentalism and criticism 'even' in the jw congregation.. then on page 31 it explains how parents must offer their children, as early as possible, proper guidance in their choice of school subjects and vocation goals.. 'rather than choose academic subjects that are geared toward a university education, parents and children need to consider courses that are useful in pursuing a theocratic career.'.

I love all the comments about window washing and cleaning.......I want to add another catagory. Painter. Around my area a bunch of the elders decided they were going to pioneer. But they still needed to make money, so they decided to open their own painting contracting companies. They had no experience......but all of a sudden; poof they were all painters. They went around town low-bidding against all the more established painting companies. They got lots of work. Funny part is they started low-bidding against each other. Yup, one elder (our esteemed PO and local BORG leader) accused another elder of stealing his customers (which he had already rightfully stolen from another contractor). It caused a huge internal upheaval in our local elder body. The solution was that several of the elders in our congregation just moved off to other congregations. I guess that's how we're supposed to handle our problems......run away!

I would highly recommend the freeminds.org site. And get yourself a copy of Crisis of Conscience by Raymond Franz (can be purchased from the free minds site). Those have been the two biggest helps to me so far.
