I wonder if they would count this as a placement™.
Damn straight! A crafty JW might return to the laundromats and hospital waiting rooms where he left his plethora of placements, scoop them back up (the ones not used to scrub the floor, or tossed in the trash) then return to memorial with them and count DOUBLE placements. I think someone might make elder with those kinds of stats!

I think they're so paranoid that they fear their own people gathering together in a non-Watchtower structured moment. I remember the HUGE get-to-gether's from my youth (Heck they even had their own name in JW slang......get-to-gether). One elders wife once organized a softball game/picnic in which she invited every JW young person in our 6 congregation city. That was awesome, though I was a little behind on the competitive thing.
Now they even demonize large get-to-gethers.....what a boring life.

It's sad really, all those millions of JW's going to a passover celebration, and Jesus isn't even their savior. I would think they would create some special ceremony for the Great Crowd, so that they could show homage and honor to the Faithful and Discreet Slave who is their savior. Perhaps they could pass around some Watchtower and Awake mags, and each Great Crowd member could tear off a page and eat it? The Society could break out the secret edible paper recipe from the Cold War era, though I'm at a loss for what they would drink......Watchtower Kool-Aid perhaps?
i honestly thought, when i was a witness, that there was a special discount at hotels when i went to them at conventions.
not just a simple special that can be given to anyone, but rather an extra special discount that was negotiated with the watchtower society.
well that is not the case, i used to work in the hotel industry for a short while and we did conventions for everyone from religious organizations to clubs.
Great point free! I remember what a big deal the Society always made about their special "rates", as if the rooming committee had been in weeklong negotiations with the "evil worldly" hotel owners. Wow, how smart are those brothers to be able to get us a cheap room, yet another sign that we have the truth! Remember how it was such a huge no-no to stay at another property that wasn't on the list?
When I was a teenager, we used to go to conventions in Kansas City, Mo. The poshest hotel was the Hyatt Regency, it was a flat race on announcement night to try and book a room there. Then one year a local elders' sons ruined it for us all, those little bastards got into a fight in the lobby of the Hyatt and jumped into the fountain, (and these guys where like 15, 17, and 19). Imagine that, three JW boys, with name tags on, screaming and hollering in the middle of the hotel lobby fountain......what a witness. The next year the Hyatt was not on the list, and never has been since. Thanks Henely boys!
my closes friend asked me today if her and her husband should just go ahead and write a letter of disassociation or wait to be df.

One of the biggest breakthroughs I made on the way out was this: These men only have as much power over your life as you allow them. When an elder shows up on your doorstep, it's your choice as to whether or not you'll speak to him. The problem many of us have are the polite societal constraints we've been raised with. It's very hard to be "rude", and JW's take full advantage of this. Just remember that those same elders have no problem with the idea of stepping over your dead body as the birds pluck out your eyeballs, still think they're worthy of polite conversation?
I also like your use of the term "false" instead of truth, I'd like to use that with your permission?
my in-laws still attend meetings and defend the faith to the best of their limited ability.
i saw limited, as their understanding of the faith ended somewhere around the 1980's and when you bring up new understanding, they think it might be apostate and do not listen.
there not alone, trust me, several witnesses do not grasp the changes.
I wonder how many young ones play video games at conventions, either on their cell phones or PSP's? I know I would.
we spent 6 months "studying" with a jw couple.
they claimed the wts had all the answers, but they actually couldn't answer any of our questions.
(we are devoted born-again bible-believing christians.).
This thread has brought up some thoughts for me. As a JW I never realized exactly what the "two class" system meant for the rank and file JW. Jesus was not our mediator, that is an actual teaching of the "faithfull and discreet slave." They teach that they are the mediator for the great crowd. What a load of hoey! Talk about elevating yourself to a place you do not belong. The more I thought on that single point, the madder I became.
How arrogant can a group of men be, to consider themselves to be a mediator for another group of people. False prophet indeed!
many of us find it hard to understand why we didn't see/read/understand what was right in front of us all along.
we get frustrated with those who are still in who can't see what we have discovered.. i think i just found a similar reaction.. i've been playing an on-line game called luxor.
i've been playing this for months now.
Terrific post Lady Lee! Sometimes I become so frustrated with family members who refuse to see what is so painfully obvious. It's not really their fault though. Anymore I just feel pity and sadness for them.
any rock climbers in here?
when i was a jw it was frowned upon very much in the surrounding cong.
so one wanted to do it with me because the elders (who didn't know what the heck rock climbing was) didn't think that it was safe and that it was more of a thrill sport like bungy jumping.
Milwaukee eh? I lived in Minneapolis for a while, then my wife and I moved back to the Ozarks. I hear good things about the trout fishing in the Wisconsin area.
as a witness, most if not all of my friends were married by 18, with many woman married by 17. it was so normal, that when i left the religion and met all these people married in their 20's and later, that it seemed like they were starting late.
i actually was a late person in getting married, i was 23. i remember being one of the few people my age in the congregation, not married yet.
i actually remember thinking, where am i going to find someone to marry, that is not yet taken.
I married my wife when I was 18, she was 21. Fortuantly, we are a uniquiqe couple, still married, in love and happy. I won't lie though, we have had our rough patches. Looking back I realize we married way too young, but that's life inside the cult.
I've watched a lot of my former JW friends lose their marriages. 18 or 19 is too young for marriage. 28-30 is a much better age.
