open fire glass - Pot makes me depressed. The handful of times I've tried it I've kind of wanted to die the next day. I don't think that's the desired effect, right? Cause that would result in there not being anymore pot smokers after a short while.

what-a-c - I think that's the packing list for people who have no life other than packing! My packing has consisted of stopping by the local grocery store/liquor store every couple of nights, scoring apple boxes and enough vodka boxes that my new landlord is going to be really worried, and then randomly throwing things in the boxes. Well, actually a few weeks ago there was some sense of order. Tonight it's dishes mixed with Theraflu and I think I threw a pair of scissors and some rice in one box. Hmm, maybe the scissors and bag of rice were a bad mix.

Bicycling - A Dangerous Sport

there was this car in front of me that must have been lost and was completely stopped.
i decided i did not want to keep waiting behind him.

It is not safe to ride to the far right next to parked cars as you run the risk of being "doored" (when someone opens their door into you). One of my coworkers broke his collar bone this way.
I can't speak to Texas, where distances are much larger and riding a bike is not nearly as feasible, but in Seattle biking or driving is a choice. By biking, you reduce the number of cars on the road. I'm curious how much the one biker you wait for slows you down in comparison to how much worse traffic would be and the resulting time loss if everyone who bikes to work decided to drive instead.
Most people can't imagine their lives sans a car. But I lived w/o a car for over six months and that I have one now is just a matter of a number of circumstances. Living w/o a car reduces your expenses, your stress level (slows your life down and biking itself is exercise which reduces stress), and for me is a great choice.
It's unfortunate that a tiny fraction of poorly behaved bikers are viewed as representative of the whole.

I've heard nothing but horror stories from other bikers about biking in Texas, the midwest, etc. Here in Seattle bikers are fairly well respected, but even here I've had some scary moments. The biker wasn't right to yell at you like that, but his losing it at you and not being angry with the driver who actually hit him makes me feel like there's more to the story. And again, he absolutely shouldn't have yelled at you, but it's very frightening to almost be killed, in fact I bet more frightening than being yelled at.
Btw, Princess is the sweetest woman ever, and I can't imagine anyone ever saying to her face the grumpy things said on the board.

Doubting our own intuition - reality vs. reality
by Cady inwhen someone asks about the jws, i usually find myself talking about disfellowshipping, the blood issue, the child-molestation problem.
but looking back i think, although those are the easily explained and perhaps somewhat sensational bad things about being a jw, they're not the only things that have left their marks.
in fact, only the disfellowshipping issue has personally affected me (although i'm not officially df'd, but of course you don't have to be to lose your friends/family).

Thanks for the kind words. I've sometimes wondered if it was the JWs that left me with the spectator view or if it was b/c I felt so old watching the crap happening at home and trying to keep my family in one piece. Not that it makes a difference I suppose.
