Go to college. I'm 26 and have been going part time for five years. It is worth it. Don't worry about not declaring a major.. you still have a couple of years before it matters too much. Get all the basics out of the way. You'll never regret going to college, whereas you'll read plenty of testimonies on here of people who regret not going.

i am 21 and i remember just 4 years ago going to college was looked at as something negative.
girls my age, we had plans to be ft pioneers and become secretaries.

My favorite is 2 Kings 2:23-24 where Elisha calls on god to slaughter 42 children with a she-bear when they mock his bald head. Lo and behold, the all-loving god complies!
2:23 And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head.
2:24 And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them. -

How, exactly, will we all be slaughtered by Jehovah? From all the illustrations I've seen, it looks like a rain of fire. What is that, exactly though? A comet or meteor? Or is Jehooba just having fun and launching fire down from nowhere? Will it happen all at once, or will it progress around the world, kinda like how the sun rises and sets. Will each person have a ball of fire designated for him or her, or will it just be a shotgun effect of fire and death?

Rights aren't dependent on man-made documents. Since we are human, we have rights simply for being alive - life, liberty, property. Those rights don't depend on any government.
Check out the very short book "The Law" by Frederic Bastiat. One of the best explanations of natural rights I've ever read.

Not to get too political, but Article 29 of said declaration is basically the way that the dictators get around it. If someone is doing something against the "public order," well, then it's ok to override those rights. Lists of "rights" such as this delcaration go far beyond real rights (something inherent in being a human being) to giving people "rights" to other people's property - ie., socialism.
For a far better declaration of rights, see both the US Declaration of Independence and the preamble to the Bill of Rights.

Howdy - Help needed
by jstalin init's great to finally be able to post here (there's been a problem over the last month with new registration).
i've been lurking for about two months because i have a friend who's a jw and i was interested in finding more out about his religion.
i started asking him things about it and he would get a bit cagy and wondered why i was asking.

jgnat: I didn't notice the passive voice until you just pointed it out. I knew that there was something else wrong with the pattern of speech, but that just nailed it for me. Very odd. Another thing I noticed is the constant use of qualifiers, such as "it appears," or "it seems," or "apparently." These are followed by absolutely no reasoning as to why things "appear" to be a certain way. The one instance that pops into my mind is in the Daniel book where it says that "Nabonidus, it seems, married the daughter of Nebuchadnezar." It seems? Where does it seem? What a joke! No citation, no paranthetical notation, no footnote... nothing!
Dune: I have thought about your statement before I posted this. I don't want to heavy-handedly attack him, my tactic is to very slowly introduce items of doubt. I've said things, completely off the cuff sounding and unrelated to JWs to him that I hope will get him to connect some dots. I'm working this very subtly. I want him to be able to discover the truth by himself, with a little nudging from me.
