Justsomedude - you point out the great logical fallacy of creationists. They attempt to use a faux-logical argument that the universe is so complex that it simply must have an intelligent creator, yet their logic completely fails when confronted with the fact that, applying the same logic, a god-being would also require a creator.

My theory is the only one based on all the current evidence - big bang, expansion of the universe, formation of stars, solar and planetary accretion, abiogenesis, and evolution. This was about a 12 billion year process.
All the available evidence fits into that sequence of events.
well... i've finally worked up the courage to get an account & start posting on this site.
i've been lurking for a couple of months now, voraciously reading all the, mmm, "delightful words of truth" i've found here.
i'm currently deep in dubdom, so i have to be pretty ambiguous about some personal details, (i'm really paranoid, hopefully that will pass :-/) but my story in a nutshell is: i was born into this religion, baptised in my mid teens, happily married to a wonderful (& thankfully, somewhat open-minded) jw lady, & now, several years later, i'm starting to seriously question some of what i believe.

I don't think there's anything you can say or do to make them happy at this point. They will have to accept the fact that you're not coming back, and that's it. Just don't string them along and tell them that it's possible. Make it very clear so that they don't have any false hope. They will (hopefully) accept it eventually. It'll just take time though.

If the FDS consists of all the annointed, how does the FDS tell anybody anything? How does the GB represent the FDS? If the FDS is the ultimate authority on biblical interpretation, how does the FDS go about doing so?
But, in the end, you won't convince them of anything. You can't reason someone out of what they weren't reasoned into in the first place.
i can understand some of the shorthand terms used on this site but could anyone elighten me on the above?
also please list any terms that pertain to this site with their explanation so that i can understand everybody's threads a bit more easily.
