Hey guy - sorry to hear about all this. I feel bad for you. Find yourself a couple of roommates and then rent should be affordable. I know you'll do fine for yourself.

Are you a fan of Ayn Rand works and/or Philosophy?
by Eyebrow2 ini have done a lot of reading of rand's fiction, and have been reading a lot about her philosophy over the past several months.
i attend a local study group on her philosophy, and my family and i often attend get togethers that a local objectivist group puts on once or twice a month.. i am interested in talking with other ex witnesses that enjoy her work, and may be interested in discussing her philosophy.
i won't call myself an objectivist just yet, because i still am studying the philosophy.

I love Atlas Shrugged. It got me on the path toward atheism and anarcho-capitalism.
I love her defense of individualism, but I disagree with her hate of altruism. Forced altruism, in the form of government programs, is evil, but I have no problem with personal choices to donate to charity to help people.
If you like Rand's work, I would suggest reading Frederic Bastiat's The Law. He wrote it in the 1850's I believe, but it is as relevant today as ever. It's short and sweet.

Some notable items from a closet-homo point of view:
I love going to the theatre, particularly to see dance shows, I cant get enough of em!
Red flag! Flaming homo!
First and foremost, I am looking for a sister who loves Jehovah more than she could ever love me.
He wants a girl who won't want much sex.
Preferably a creative person, not over-outgoing but not too shy. Someone to walk along beaches with and watch the sun set.
In other words: "...please don't be agressive for sex. I prefer not thinking about it with a girl."
also would like to hear from other brothers and sisters who are interested in Irish dancing. I would love to put together an irish dance piece for a congregation party, but I need bros+sis's in the Midlands area who are interested in dance. I could teach you everything I know! :)
He's looking for some other "dancing" brothers to party with and maybe hopefully they will come over to his place where he can teach them everything he knows.
DISCLAIMER: I'm a homo, so I can make fun of the self-supressed closet homo types. Heck, I was one most of my life. This guy just needs a good stiff one to play with.

Disputing the Validity and Legality of the DF/DA Announcement
by valkyrie inpoints for consideration:.
1. a. is the "organisation" (i.e., doctrines, teachings, practices, spirit) of 2006 the same organisation that you affiliated yourself with at your accession to unbaptised/baptised publisher status some 10 - 15 - 20 years ago?.
1. b. if the organisation is substantially changed, and you abandoned your congregation before [many of ] those definitive changes were instituted, can the current "organisation" accurately be said to have the authority to disfellowship you from an entity which essentially no longer exists?

I think you'll have a hard time trying to make any legal case on this matter. When you join the JWs, you're fully aware of what you're agreeing to. It's a verbal contract of sorts, which are just as legally binding as written contracts.
In my opinion, the only traction you could get on this issue is under the doctrine of disaffirmance by minors. See my prior post on the issue here:

Could Satan attend meetings, or get into the Kingdam Hall?
by free2beme ini remember a few stories i have heard from other religions, where they gave those elaborate demon possession stories and how the demons or satan could not handle being in a church and would leave the bodies in come out in this wild fashion.
mind you, i thought these were fake as a witness and post-witness.
more are an example of mental issues, rather than satan the devil and his mighty horde of demons.

The meetings are so boring because Satan isn't there. He's such a great party animal - do you think he'd be caught dead in a kingdom hall? What a downer!

The last supper: "is" versus "means"
by jstalin ini was raised catholic, so i was a bit surprised when i attended the memorial last year with my jw friend and the speaker was recounting the last supper.
he quoted mark 14:22 and as they continued eating, he took a loaf, said a blessing, broke it and gave it to them, and said: take it, this means my body.
23 and taking a cup, he offered thanks and gave it to them, and they all drank out of it.

I was raised Catholic, so I was a bit surprised when I attended the memorial last year with my JW friend and the speaker was recounting the last supper. He quoted Mark 14:
22 And as they continued eating, he took a loaf, said a blessing, broke it and gave it to them, and said: “Take it, this means my body.” 23 And taking a cup, he offered thanks and gave it to them, and they all drank out of it. 24 And he said to them: “This means my ‘blood of the covenant,’ which is to be poured out in behalf of many.
Of course, the "means" jumped out at me because I'm used to the Catholic tradition of transubstantiation - the belief that the wine and bread literally become Christ's blood and body, as I believe is supported by more traditional translations, such as the KJV:
14:22 And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body.
14:23 And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it.
14:24 And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many. So, anyways, the transubstantiation isn't the issue here, it's the translation of this passage by the watchtower. I'm curious to know how they justify using "means" instead of "is." It seems like the greek would be pretty clear. The KJV version clearly says the blood is shed, but WT says it is poured out.
Could anyone shine some light on this issue? I realize that drinking Christ's blood would destroy their no blood stance, so how do they handle the translation of this?

I went to last year's memorial and experienced the same thing. It was horrible. The funny part was when he started on about the "many visitors" I chuckled to myself because I was clearly the only visitor in the place. It was maybe 30% full.
