I don't understand the big news! can blondie or someone do an idiots guide?

please can someone summarise the big news or put it in plainer english?

i've rushed home from work anxious to hear it, read it and still don't understand the ramifications for the borg of this.

it could be because my head is spinning from work or i am just plain stupid....from what i've read the impact isn't going to have my family throwing down their watchtowers and realising they love me more, but hat was my own particular pie in the sky.. also how do we get it so that it comes up on google so that anyone wanting to know about jws and blood come to this news straight away.. dunce-crumpet.

VERY good point Severus. In fact, this very line of thinking is what brought ME out of the WT.

Once I came to the conclusion that Ministerial Servants and Elders are NOT appointed by God's Holy Spirit (after having personal experience with those that are up to no good) it started a domino process of investigating their other grandiose claims and in a matter of DAYS the entire house of cards collapsed.

Ridiculous "Revelation Climax" Book interpretations

i used to be so into prophecy and actually loved the climax book when it first came out.

now, i can't believe i bought into that bs.

anyhow, name a ridiculous climax book interpretation.

Man! The memories! That book was touted by the elders as being "real deep" (yeah...deep in bulldookie!)

The first time I got a "Don't go there" look from an Elder was when I approached the brother conducting the study with some questions about about the interpretations given. I'll never forget the look on his face and I never got past the first question!

i am extremely disappointed to read some people's comments about the latest news.

it is one thing to express and opinion, perhaps that you think it isn't as big as you imagined (one wonders what you imagined) but it is another to be downright insulting to people who have put a lot of time and effort into this.. get real.

I thought it was rather childish the way many were slobbering over the news. REALLY big news doesn't need a precursor. Think about it.

That's the point!! That's why some are disappointed at the scope of the news (not the news itself which is, in fact, good news)...because there was the precursor of a sensational headline. I admit I got excited and excuse me for doing so! I just get excitable when I imagine anything that will hurt the WTBTS. My sense of justice demands I rejoice when justice is served!

I still haven't read the entire essay (will probably download & read over the weekend) but it could produce big results in 2 ways: First, if the legal community picks this up and takes it seriously, the WTBTS might be forced to change the blood doctrine, making it a matter of conscience, then JW's will leave by the droves (esp those who've had loved ones die on account of it). New light is one thing, but this light would be too hot for most to bear. Secondly, the lawsuits...(new ones and it might make ongoing ones easier to prosecute?) But a question...Barbara has mentioned activisim and writing letters to the GB...if we do blast them with thousands of letters, do you think that will seriously influence them to change the policy?

The Reaction to the Big News at Work Today

i work at the department of health here in washington state.

i took two copies of barbara's initial post (infomercial) regarding the news and the links.

what i got were people highly skeptical of the voracity, and highly suspicious of the university that published it (baptist so therefore not really credible in the subject of law).

Interesting. You know I was thinking too, how much weight does the signed blood card have? That might overrule any "tort of misrepresentation" since the JW signs it in accordance with Acts 15:28,29 and not in accordance with the [dis]information in the blood brochure. The JW's presents misrepresenations in MUCH of their printed materials. Quoting things out of context, using dubious sources, etc, yet the average JW is either unaware of these misrepresentations or doesn't care. The excerpts Barbara posted did allude to other areas of misrepresentation tho...such as their recruitment methods. They may be more likely to "hang" on something like that.

sure we may all just contibute small nails in the coffin, but each small nail has some impact to be sure.

In the beginning, right after I left I wrote anonymous letters to several people in my congregation (those with the most likelihood of listening). I ordered some tracts that neatly encapsulated what's wrong with the WTBTS and left those on cars near the KH and in building lobbies throughout the territory. Anytime I run into an inactive JW I speak with them about their impressions, why they're not active then tell my story. ALL of my current friends (not many...I'm still rebuilding my social life) know about my JW experience and many are amazed at the deceit (most people don't know anything about JW"s except that they knock on your door on weekend mornings and don't celebrate anything). Admittedly, I'm not doing a whole helluva lot, but whenever there is an "opening" I try to get in and plant some seeds (esp with those who were never JW or JW sympathizers)

Barbara's recomendation to "read a good essay" would have sifficed instead of blowing it out of proportions, anouncing it as historic, and then blaming us for lack of fireworks.

Exactly! It's all in the delivery. Most of the "backlash" is from people feeling let-down. The information itself is wonderful and *might* just lead to something big, but only time will tell (and LOTS of time).

Now as for activism and raising awareness among JW's I'm a little stumped about how to do that with THIS particular information. We tell them the WTBTS lied about the medical facts in the blood brochure. In my JW hey-day I would have (a) not believed them or (b) refer to the scripture in Acts about abstaining from blood....can't argue that one (at least to a JW). I guess I'll just have to find those on the "fringes" and hope they're looking for any excuse to get out.
