I heard one Elder say "your vacations should revolve around field services"! He would make it a point to stress this to all the dubs all the time. if you went out of town and he found out he would go out of his way to ask you if you went out on service and meetings.

Do JWs really believe the end is near?

i have no doubt that some of them sincerely believe.
but when i was a kid, growing up in the '80s, i didn't know of a single witness, myself included, who didn't believe the end was close.

I feel many know the end is not near but need to hold on the concept it so they can deal with their sad life. I always heard people say “Oh, the end is so close!” but, their actions showed otherwise. When I first believe all the lies I thought we would not make it to the year 2000!!!!!

Do JWs Shun You?
by minimus inrecently, i've heard from various jw family members that either i am viewed as "close to being an apostate" because i had made some comments suggesting that the fds is clearly wrong on many issues over the years or that i "have left jehovah" and therefor by my new way of life, i must be shunned.
while visiting my dying non jw uncle in the hospital, i was told outrightly that it was wished that i never showed my face and that my mere presence was objectionable and that since i "left jehovah", they could not talk to me any longer.. their viewpoints saddened me because they said all this in front of my uncle who can barely respond to anything.
his reaction: he cried his eyes out!

I may be rare but JW do not shun me. I've been moving houses this past two week and a bunch of JW have come by to offer help or have a beer with me dispite the fact i have a beard, have not been to meeting in over a year, and have made it known that i will not be returning to the Hall ever. Please note, i was always respectfull to everyone at the Hall and made it a a point to have all the "friends" over for a BBQ at some point. I'm nor DF of DA even though i turned in a DA letter to the Elders, they through it in the trash. I guess cause they know i know all the little dirty things that happen in the Hall.

Kevin Smith, Prince, and the JW's...
by avishai inin the two kevin smith spoken word videos, he tells a story about how he goes out to paisley park (prince's studio's) and basically ends up filming a documentary on prince's new album, the jw's, etc.
in the second spoken word film, he talks about how prince wanted to use the footage as a jw recruitment film.
now, smith is the director of clerks, mallrats, dogma, great dirctor, but dirty, dirty films, and dogma is one of the best indictments of religion i've ever seen.

the schools were downstairs, essentially separated from the rest of the kh.

One Sunday a young pioneer Sister left the WT study early and as she pull out of the parking lot she got into a huge, and I mean huge car accident!!! About six cars where involved! the funny part was, she was only 18 years old and after meeting as everybody was stuck at the KH as the police and tow-truck came to clean up the mess, the trunk of her car opened and she had a ton of beer!!!!!!
Another time a Sister was walking off stage after her talk and she took an ugly fall!!!! blood everywhere, she cut her lip and busted her noise.

Hubby s/w Mr. Flipper on the phone last night for about 1 1/2
by cognac inmr. flipper told him all this stuff about the whole pedophilia/ 1975 debacle, everything.
they talked for sooooo long... hubby really listened.. it started when i called them to talk about how to handle the elders.
then, i thought, hubby should know who i'm talking to.
