Blondie:
Thank you for digging up that October 1977 QFR. Can I assume that there were no previous or subsequent references to JWs being allowed this "exception" to the general rule?
I finding the timing (10/77) of this easing of restrictions by the Governing Body on marital-sexual matters to be "very interesting".
First, in 10/77, I was inactive and not attending meetings due to going through the initial separation of my first marriage/divorce. Thus, I missed this "new light".
Second, I wonder which Governing Body Member in 1977 was responsible for talking the other GBers into granting this easing of policy, which basically gives any divorced JW the "green light" to falsely accuse their Ex. While optional at the whim of the local BOEs, the scenarios as to whom it will and won't be used against are fairly obvious.
I wonder just how often this exception has been permitted over the past 30 years? I obviously had not heard of it. The local Elder (who is not the typical local hick eder) who related the info to me in my Ex's case spoke as if it were something "new" to him. (He could have been "theo waring" me.) He specifically referred to the "statement" as a "signed affidavit", rather than a mere letter. I wonder if the other BOE that permitted the affidavit/letter worked from instructions from Brooklyn?
What still irks me is that all involved local JWs -- from my Ex, to my local BOE (which has not dared to try to DF me), to even my local JW relatives -- ALL KNEW I WAS NOT GUILTY, YET PARTICIPATED IN THE CONSPIRACY TO FALSELY LABEL ME AS GUILTY.
In any event, the joke(S) on them -- with the fact that the WatchTower now has an Elder/Elderette living in adulterous sin (per their standards) being one of the lesser "jokes".
... Several interesting tidbits here.... hmmmm.

Is there new light on separation/divorce?
by somebodylovesme ini had a chance to thumb through the bible teach book (which was a waste of fifteen minutes of my life that i'll never get back ...) and i had a question about the section on family life.
i believe it stated that separation was allowed in some extreme situations (not named), but that divorce was only allowed in cases of fornication..
i was never a jw, but i'm currently watching a jw family member go through some crap in their marriage.

Evidently, there has been NEW LIGHT on RE-MARRIAGE sometime in the past (nearly) 10 years (since I first became inactive).
As some of you know, in Spring 2005, my JW Ex-wife not only was given permission to RE-MARRY a widowed Elder, but was granted the "privilege" of a Kingdom Hall wedding.
My EX could NOT have "proven" adultery/fornication for one simple, yet excellent reason:
Because I am "NOT GUILTY".
My EX knew I was "NOT GUILTY", and so did the Elders in my town. However, that did not stop those Elders, nor even my own JW relatives, from attending the wedding festivities in the adjacent Congregation.
I even approached one local Elder to find out how my EX and her Co-conspirators pull this SCAM off.
The local Elder told me that the Society now allows an active JW Divorcee to merely sign an affidavit stating that they know their Ex committed adultery either before or after the Divorce, and everything is then kosher.
The signing of the affidavit essentially relieves the local BOE of any "responsibilities" before Jah, and the legal system.
Thus, I was falsely branded an "adulterer" to every JW who ever knew me, and the local JWs (including my family) participated in the frame-up.
My only recourse was to sue my Ex for slander, which would have been pointless.
All this goes to show that once you are labeled an "apostate", the JWs will stop at nothing to destroy your character. -

Do Some JW Elders Secretly Consider It Possible That They Are Wrong?
by West70 ini recently heard this "experience" from a now "christian" former jw, which has not previously been publicly communicated.
this jw then moved back to their home area (no jw relatives), and simply continued living their already-in-progress non-jw life.
inevitably, this exjw christian started bumping into their jw former associates.

It is not only understandable, but expected, that some other posters here have READING COMPREHENSION DIFFICULTIES, but it is INEXCUSUABLE that YOU as an ATTORNEY could not only read my initial post, BUT then MISS my additional post where I am forced to point out to those with READING COMPREHENSION DIFFICULTIES that:
1. No where in my post did I say that I nor ExJW made such a connection.
2. In plain ENGLISH (maybe that was the problem), I ask whether anyone SUSPECTS that that specific BOE made such a connection, or whether anyone SUSPECTS that that BOE might have been afraid that the Cong members might make such a connection. -

OutOfTheOrg:
FYI, I have numerous email boxes which I use to communicate with XJWs across the globe, and those email boxes were FLOODED last evening and this morning with "ATTA BOYS".
If you think for a moment that I could care less what you and certain other XJWs think, you haven't been paying attention - for quite some time.
I post here for a variety of reasons- none of which REQUIRE me to post here. Mainly, I post here as a way of reaching people that I don't wish on my email lists. Frequently, it is just because I'm bored. Sometimes it is a quick way to communicate with the "lurker class". Etc. Etc.
I am well aware that I don't fit in with this DB's majority of atheists, agnostics, Wiccans, Pagans, Criminals, etc. I was told long ago that CHRISTIAN LONGO was one of the "ruling cliques" favorite sons here during the time period when he was only a "lesser criminal" - before he got around to murdering his family. I have also been told that there have been 2 or 3 other criminals that have been favorites with posters here over the years.
So, don't plan on me worrying about "fitting in" with those who control the philosophy and morals of this DB. -

To: Barbara Anderson -- Re: First WatchTower President
by West70 ini am primarily posting this to barbara anderson, but obviously everyone is welcome to correct or comment on my remarks as they see fit.
mrs. anderson, i realize that trying to cover all bases in your pending russell bio would be impossible, but i do hope that you will be able to include a section on the first president of the watch tower society, william h. conley.
i hope that you have had a chance to research conley with some degree of thoroughness, so as to dispel some of the half-truths that some bible students and jws try to promote (such as that conley's age and health caused his inactivity with russell after 1881).

BTTT, since this thread is an excellent opportunity for lurkers to learn more about some folk's lack of reading comprehension, hypocrisy, and foundamental morals, etc.
First, where did I say that "I believe GOD killed the Elder", or even that the exJW believed that GOD killed the Elder?
I asked whether anyone suspects that the BOE were the ones who might have believed such, or that the BOE & CO were afraid that some in the Cong would possibly believe such:
-----Does anyone else suspect that slimely JW Elder DIED that very night, and that such "scared the HELL" out of the other Elders, who then decided they would just drop the matter against exJW Christian rather than make the DA Announcement?
-----Or, did the BOE consult with the CO, and were they afraid regular Cong members would discover the weird circumstances, and that possibly some of the Cong members would "make the connection" between JW Elders DEATH and his actions toward exJW Christian?
Frankly, I do NOT believe that GOD micro-manages anyone's life - be they Xian or non-Xian. It's my guess that GOD rarely intervenes in most folk's affairs, but I do believe that HE will occasionally do so for HIS own reasons.
Thus, I do accept that it might be possible that this was an instance when HE chose to make a statement, but the exJW never implied such when telling me their story, and I never mentioned the possibility to exJW.
The hypocrises are OBVIOUS, and need no commentary.
Second, ... nah, I'll not waste my time ... maybe later.
PS: I'll continue to pray for all you God-haters, because I was once such myself. If I deserve salvation, and can be made to "see" such, so can you.

Typical ASSUMPTIONS made by the uninformed.
I am so far from being a "super-Christian" that such is beyond my comprehension.
No, its simply like the bumpersticker says:
CHRISTIANS ARE NOT PERFECT, JUST FORGIVEN.

thank you for replying to my topic on william h. conley, the watch tower society's first president.
if not for your finding the "treasure" you described, we might not know this fact even today.

Bumping up this thread, so newbies can read about 3 reports of alleged child sexual abuse involving 4 JW congregations in the same Circuit; all within a 40 mile radius of each other.
Intended as a REBUTTAL for SOME current and former JWs who say they were Bethelites, Elders, MSs, etc. for 100 (or how many ever) years and never ever heard of a single instance of CHILD MOLESTATION in a JW Cong. -

I don't care if noone else finds this funny - I find it hilarious.
I guess it is because I once knew of an old man in a neighboring community whose parents had also named him "Jehovah".
As typical, as various JWs continously moved in and out of the area over the decades, and local JWs would forget to "warn" them about this guy, they would eventually run into this man, who would give them a hardtime about being "his" witnesses. -

Sherry:
Why don't you make it easy for occasional lurkers to know from where your point of view comes, and tell them you are
1. A Lesbian,
2. Who worships Trees, Rocks, or whatver other form Satan is taking for you these days.
You too will one day bow before and acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord.
Its just a question as to who's terms such occurs.
I'll continue to pray for you - just like I do for other former JWs - whether you like it or not.
