Hello Englishman :o)
Many thanks for posting excerpts here :o)
shunning: .
the illusion of power to a powerless person is a drug.
but the son, because he was not baptized, was not disfellowshipped.
Hello and thanks for introducing this subject :o)
*So there is no shunning - people who fall away are viewed as those who need the most love. It goes in line with the parable of the shepherder who leaves the flock to find one lost sheep.*
Indeed JG :o)
And they are sought out of love, not in order to punish or to ostracise.
*Shunning* seems to me to be a complete act of *lovelessness* - toe the party line or be systematically ignored, persistently avoided and cruelly rejected.
In which way does this mirror the example of Christ?
Which fruits of the Spirit does this portray?
And how is this odious activity God honouring?
Has the WTBTS no conception of grace?
I think that the public at large are almost totally ignorant on this subject :o(((
didn't know if any of you had seen this site, butn they have some jw obits and some articles i haven't seen posted before, plus it looks as if it gets an update semi-regularly.

Hello :o)
Thanks for the link! I must have missed this story in the Times and I don't remember it being posted here. If it has - my apologies, but I thought it might raise a smile :o) I wonder what became of the literature *placed* amongst the congregation......?
From the site Valis mentioned.
Jehovah's Witnesses Get Some of their Own Medicine
January 18, 2002 8:00 CDT
A British mum finally decided she'd turned the other cheek the suggested "70 times 7" and that it was time for some Christian action. After dealing with missionaries from the Jehovah's Witness Church every month for 12 years and telling them each time she just wasn't interested, it was either take some action or get some medication for that nervous twitch that struck every time she heard the doorbell. She chose the former.
Jane White gathered up her courage, a considerable amount of religious literature and other magazines, and set off for the local Kingdom Hall to give them back some of their own medicine. She timed her visit carefully to arrive in the middle of their services, banged loudly on the door until someone answered it and then proceeded to offer her literature to the congregation and talk to them about her religion. She was forced to "move along" after about 30 minutes of proselyting.
Ms. White insists that it's not the religion they practice that she objects to, but rather the intrusive way in which they insist on trying to share their 'good news' that she can't stomach anymore. A spokesman for Jehovah's Witnesses in Britain stated that their policy is that if someone states that they do not want their representatives to call that a note is made and further contact is not made.

"dr. betheajackson:.
i don't think, 18 or 20 years ago, we knew much of anything about .
pedophiles.
Hello :o)
"Dr. BetheaJackson:
Is this lady actually a Doctor? Has anyone found proof of her qualifications?
"I don't think, 18 or 20 years ago, we knew much of anything about pedophiles."
Who is the *we* to whom she is referring?
"It wasn't really looked at as a criminal matter. We didn't publicize it as being an act that needed some criminal intervention, so to speak."
Again, who is the *we* to whom she is referring?
"We didn't look at it ... or it wasn't ... people didn't have the body of knowledge 18 or 20 years ago to say that this is something that will harm your child emotionally, if you don't address it."
Why did the *we* or the anonymous *people* mentioned above need a *body of knowledge* to tell them that this was something that would harm their child emotionally, whether it was addressed or not? And what about the harming of the children *physically*?
"Parents didn't know the seriousness, 18 or 20 years ago, and the longterm effects..."
Again - who are these anonymous *parents* who did not know the *seriousness* or *the longterm effects*?
As this is a WTBTS promotional video, should those members of the general public who were perfectly well aware of the seriousness of such crimes 18 - 20 years ago, conclude that Ms Bethea Jackson is suggesting that the *we*, the *people*, and the *parents* who were blissfully unaware of the devastating and long term effects on victims of child abuse were members of the organisation? The video clip does not do the WTBTS any favours imo.
I am certain that if Ms Bethea Jackson would care to speak to some of the posters here, those who were victims 18 - 20 years ago could tell her exactly how they regarded child abuse - they already had their own *body of knowledge*.
It is a pity that these victims were prevented by an organisation from contributing to the wider *public* *body of knowledge*. The WTBTS is, therefore, guilty in the same way as is the Roman Catholic Church and other organisations of suppressing information, repressing victims, whilst expressing themselves above reproach. And that brings reproach upon the name of God imo!

i have just watched about half of part 2 of the bbc documentary on the pursuit of paedophiles in the uk.
i couldn't watch all of it because it churned my stomach completely.
i was completely shocked by what i saw and i was horrified by the lack of remorse shown by a paedophile who had been abusing children for 25 years who kept trying to change the subject to a discussion of female circumcision.. the sentences were minimal with 6 years for this particular abuser.
Hello Termite and Latte :o)
There was much shown that I thought unnecessary - the clip at the end and the photographs!
Reading the background to the programme, it occurred to me that the clips were included initially in order to show the terror and pain on the victims' faces (contrary to what was being claimed by the paedophiles), but then the faces had to be pixelled out in order to hide the identity of the victims.
But I share your fears and your disgust :o(((((
Edited to say that wasn't strong enough!

Whoops!
Forgot to mention that freephone numbers for victim helplines were flagged at the end of the programme.
It took 23 years for the victim whom I mentioned above to come forward. I hope that the provision of helplines will enable victims to get some much needed help to deal with their trauma - and will *pinpoint* more paedophiles.
