  What if caffeine was banned for JWs?

  a post about caffeine and coffee in the "what if the wts banned alcohol" thread jogged my memory.... back in the 70s sometime (i can't remember if it was pre-75 or post-75) a rumor started circulating around our area that at the next convention the wts was going to add caffeine and caffeine products (coffee, coke, etc) to the list of banned substances (tobacco, blood).

  of course, it never happened, but for a couple of months the rumors were hot and heavy.

  the rumors were easily believed by a lot of the dubs because of the "up" effects caffeine can give you and besides, the mormons banned it, there had to be a reason.

  They wouldn't ban it.

  I gave up caffeine for a period of time and now only have it occasionally. I found that shockingly, I need more sleep and I am not rebounding off the walls all the time. If they banned coffee JW's might not be able to stay out till 10 o'clock on a weeknights or work 5 days a week and spend all weekend in field service or at the meetings. JW's are always running around. I remember asking my husband, why if the scripture say that Christian's should live peaceful and quiet lives. Why I couldn't seem to ever have either.

  Letter from the WTBTS

  can anyone tell me how long i might have to wait - in general - for a letter from the watchtower?

  i sent them 2 different letters in regards to some questions that i have and i just want an idea of how long to wait until i send a follow up.

  in actual fact i'm not even expecting them to respond but how long do i give them?

  When I was studying I sent a letter asking for there official position on child abuse and spousal abuse. They sent two elders to my house to tell me that if a women can't prove she is abused then they will tell her to return to her husband. Thank God they sent the wolf to my door. Never went to a meeting again

  i visited my jw son and daughter - who were raised in the faith - in may.

  my son is 37 years old, intelligent and is a hard worker and a good provider for his family.

  we were having breakfast when my daughter-in-law mentioned the ' lump' on my sons back.

  I had a lump on my back about the size of a golf ball. It was a fatty tissue tumor. A small outpatient procedure and it was done. I also had any suspicious moles removed while they were removing it. A Doctor is a good idea, I don't see how a growth will go away with herbs.

  My DC invitation is delivered today

  a car full of sisters whom i've known for years showed up today.

  one got out of the car and asked if i got my "invitation".

  she let me know that they were supposed to give one to everybody.

  JH, do you live in the US. It is illegal to put something inside someone's mailbox. You can complain about this. My Church distributes literature and it has to be either (mailed with a stamp) or placed at the door or it can be hung on the mailbox flag in a plastic bag. You cannot open another persons mailbox and put something in it. I believe it is a federal offense.

  Scuba Diving - advice please.

  i have my final dives this weekend to qualify as an open water scuba diver.

  i have to admit i'm nervous so if anyone here has passed can you let me know what to expect?.

  Stay relaxed and remember everything you will be doing, you have already done in the pool. People have problems because they panic. You have an instructor with you with a safe second. Even if you went under water, freak out and threw off all your gear, the instructure would hand you his regulator and you would be fine so stay relaxed, enjoy the view and have a great time. I did my certs in the ocean and even with the new introduction of current, I did just fine. I grew up on the beach and the majority of accidents can be traced back to stupidity. Lack of proper gear, no buddy, no flag etc.

  Always dive with a buddy and if you are doing a shore ocean dive make sure you are with someone that is used to dealing with currents, tides, and navigating.

  Diving is the most peaceful experience you can have. I love being under the water.

  my jw mom always uses this verse to justify her distance from me and my family.

  i have never been able to come up with a reasonable response to her.

  does anyone have any good suggestions?

  If you continue to read, in 26; it is opposers of Christians that would cause the seperation. So your mother really cannot use this unless you are attacking her.

  My second JW meeting there was a baptised women beating a very young child(maybe a year an half) right outside the meeting door. THe whole time everyone just sat in the meeting talking about the evils of Christmas Carols. Note:Before the women dragged her child out, she looked at him and said you disgust me. I was shaking through the rest of the meeting. It was 8:30 at night and this child was just a baby. I regret not getting up and stopping that women.

  YOUR LAST MEETING.........................

  ........................at my last meeting, the elder was talking about 1975 and said "it never happened, it is appostates using a time when (some) brothers took the info in the wt wrong"...................i just blinked and finally woke up.. i had been on this site lurking for a couple of weeks, and realized thing werent right, but to have some creep say on the platform " it didnt happen"............when this ruined my and my siblings childhood, just made me snap.

  on the way home, i told my hubby "that was the last meeting im going to"................boy was he pleased.. .

  so if you didnt get df ......................what happened at your last meeting.?.

  I started reading some of Russell. I had attended my first Bible Students Meetings. I was going to still go to book study and compare the the two groups. My last meeting was a book study. The following weekend two Elders showed upto my door with a letter I wrote to the Society questioning their policy against abuse. The Elder told me if a women couldn't prove she was abused, he would tell her to return to her husband. I told him how dangerous and sad that was and I never attended another JW meeting.

  Question About Eyeglasses

  my wife just spent $900 on 4 pair of eyeglasses.

  is it just me, or is that waaaaaay too much money?

  i don't wear glasses anymore (laser surgery), but isn't this too much?

  Doesn't sound bad to me. I usually end up spending about $600.00 before insurance deductions for my glasses. You have the frames, the lenses, scratch proofing, glare proofing. It kind of like buying a car. Oh, you wanted all 4 tires that will cost you extra.

  NO BENEFITS TO BLOOD TRANSFUSION...?

  the august 2006 awake, makes the claim that there is no benefit to blood transfusion except in trauma, according to proffessor bruce spiess:.

  there are few if any (medical) articles that supposrt transfusion actually improving outcome.

  " in fact, he writes that many transufusions 'may do more harm than good in virtually every instance except trauma,' increasing 'the risk of pneumonia, infections, heart attacks and strokes.'.
