My first name is Naomi. My middle name is Ruth. Everyone thinks I was named after one of the Judds. I wasn't. My name was picked back in 1956 when my mom was 5 years old. I wasn't born until 1974. I was the first female child born in my family. I got lucky. My little sisters name is Helen. Not a bad name but my little sister was born in 1977 so not very common amoung the younger set.

I really could care less. I Da ed myself 12 years ago. My parents are the only ones I talk to in my family anyway and they know I come to EX JW boards. They know I post on them. They know I have met people from them. I don't hide any aspect of my life from them.

to all of you exjws, i'm sure you've been asked this question one way or the other many times and i'm sure the answer is different for many of you, i'd like to know directly from you never having a chance to hear or read many exjw's answers to this.
knowing that you would be cut off from your family and friends and other consequences for your decision to leave, how did you ever get the strength to do it?
i mean really, i find it fascinating to know that there are so many of you who were at one time very devout, if not at the very least loyal to one of the most successful mind-contol organizations ever who believed all if not most of what the society taught and still you found the courage to risk everything once you accepted that it isn't what it claims to be.
I had no choice but to DA myself. Growing up in a JW family 4 generations strong meant that if I left I would never be left alone. I would always have to watch my back. I would not let a religion I didn't believe in have that kind of power over my life. I told my mom my feelings and she told the elders. So the next day I wrote and sent my DA letter. I have been free for 12 years now. It was one of the best things I ever did for myself. I took control of my life and stopped living it to please others. Instead I only worry about my own happiness.
It was hard, it still can be at times, but so worth it.
i originally came here to find proof that the witnesses don't have the truth.
i was so afraid of being destroyed at armagedon.. i didn't really find the convincing proof i was looking for.. what i did find, however, is the love and total acceptance that i hadn't felt before.

i'm formerly from the jackson/cape girardeau area and am currently in st louis.. i've been out in the 'world' for 10 years.
this is the first time i've tried to contact anyone or really even read anything about the jw's (and former jw's).
to be quite honest, i was trying to forget that part of my life ever happened.
Western Kentucky here. Paducah in fact. I just relocated here in January, I'm from Cleveland, Ohio. I haven't been to St Louis yet but I want to go!! I'm about 150 or so miles from St Louis. I think you guy's are north west of me.
just wanted to start this to get a pulse on how many young jw's are exiting percentage wise recently in the witness organization.
in my family i have 8 young people aged 21 through 35 .
these are my son and two daughters and my older siblings 5 adult children.
In order of birth.
Cousin #1 male in but faded for years then went back
Cousin #2 male in?? Not 100% sure if he still goes. He went back after his father died.
Cousin #3 male in but faded for years then went back.
Brother in, know it all elder want to be.
Cousin #4 male in
Me out left at 23. I Am now 35. Cousin #4 and I are the same age. All the ones above us are over 35 and almost in their 40's now.
Cousin #5 female in
Younger sister in. Pioneer and depressed for years.
Cousin #6 male in
Cousin #7 male. Last I heard he was disfellowshipped and moved to California. Not sure if he's in or out really. He either doesn't keep in contact with the family or I'm not updated about him because I'm out also.
Cousin #8 male in?? Last I heard he was divorced and going through some sever mental issues due to a fall and head injury he had years ago. He was abusive to his wife. He had drinking issues. Moved back into parents house after separation with ex wife. Didn't go to meeting last I heard. Used the depression excuse. Father stepped down as an elder to support his son when he needed him after his marriage fell apart.
Cousin #9 female in.
Cousin #10 female out. Never got baptized. I believe she is gay also, so that may be a reason. I don't know if she still hangs around JW's or not. Has never openly come out to the family, but lives with a older woman and her daughter and I believe one of them is her girl friend. Not sure which.
Cousin #11 out. Disfellowshipped. Not sure if went back or not yet. He left at 18 I believe. Not sure though of his age when he got disfellowshipped.
I know I'm out and at the moment that's all I'm sure about. I don't have any contact with the cousins who might be out so I can't know for sure if they went back since I last heard about them or not.
