An Online Game of Telephone.....
by AK - Jeff injust like the parlor game - you read what the person before you has written, attempt to repeat it as precisely as possible without looking at it more than once.. don't look at any previous posters' postings.
as you look now, you should only be able to see this panel, so scroll to the bottom of the latest page, read once and post.
let's see how this turns out.

Frugal Ideas for a Beautiful but Inexpensive Wedding!
by StAnn inas i've proclaimed so loudly, my oldest son is getting married next year.
we have a small budget (about $5k) and they want a wedding with three bridesmaids, three groomsmen, and a catered reception.
thus far, my son is going to load his ipod with music.

First of all your son wants to invite everyone he knows and their brothers. If he cut down the guest list to just close friends and family he would save a ton of money. 200 people at a wedding is just way to many people.
My friend got married last year on my birthday. She invited about 80 people to her wedding. Her total wedding cost for the reception was around 5500.00. That included a steak or chicken dinner with appetizers and an open bar. She saved money by having a groomsman DJ via a computer and itunes. They also had their own PA system. They had a friend marry them. It was the best wedding I have ever been to. It was small but everyone had a great time. The bride and groom had time to be really personal with the guests and to speak to everyone.

I'd like to know who you were before you were baptized a JW? Were you raised a JW? What religion or denomination of Christianity did you profess before you became a JW.
by SAHARA inif you were raised a jw, how well did you research the history of the org.
before you were baptized?
if you were a convert to the watchtower society , how well did you know the doctrines of the faith before your conversion?

Born in. 4 Generations of JW's om my mothers side and 3 on my fathers side. My father was a convert. His father converted to marry a JW lady he was cheating on my grandmother with after my father had been baptized and married my mother.
I never looked into the religion at all. It was just normal for my family. I got baptized at 19 due to pressure because my little sister was going to do it. I was a non believer even then. I Da ed at 23.

That is not your country roots showing, it's your JW roots showing. LOL
If you have a local community collage near by with a food service course ask them how much they would charge to cater the reception. That way they get experience and you save money.

The fact that the WTS kills any and all enjoyment a JW could ever have in the JW's. An example would be congregation picnics. Back when I was a JW, 12 years ago now, they were very common. Every summer one family or another would put a potluck together and have it a some park in the area I grew up in. It was fun. A little distraction from the norm. Everyone was invited. Now those are not "recommend". Please tell me why getting together with your fellow JW's is a bad thing?? You can't go to these kinds of functions outside the JW's so why ban them inside??
Everyone was invited. No one was left out. All it was, was good clean fun with your brothers and sister. They don't allow friends outside the Borg and now they don't want you to associate to closely with those who are in either. The problem I see as most scary in the JW's now is the over PC direction they have taken with everything. Young people need fun in their lives if they want to keep them. If they keep killing any and all fun a JW has it will be like squeezing a fist around a hand full of sand. The tighter the grip the more that get away.
It's all about control. The governing body would be happy if everyone had zero emotions/thoughts of their own at all. Easier to control. Sheep meant to be led. I don't think anyone in Bethal has any recollection of what it's like to be a young JW anymore.

Your guilty pleasures...
by MrFreeze inwhen you were a witness, or if you still are, what types of movies/games/tv shows/books/other activities did you enjoy that the society might not find too appropriate for jdubs.
for me here's a list of things i enjoyed that wouldn't have made the friends too pleased but that i rather enjoyed.. movies: all the best movies are rated r. whether it be language, violence, or sex.
you'd be hard pressed to find a movie made in the last 20 years that is really good that isn't rated r. some movies i enjoyed that the friends wouldn't have wanted me to be seeing: the matrix, godfather, godfather 2, goodfellas, american history x, office space, the pianist, shawshank redemption, the shining.

Romance novels. I have been reading them since I was a very young girl. Not that I beileve in all that love BS they try to sell women, I just enjoy the break from everyday life. Plus the sex in the books I read is amazing. LOL

I had a friend just like that. She had a comment on everyone else I was friends with and went out of her way to judge me at every turn. No matter what was going on in my life she always felt she knew best. I finally dropped her like a lead balloon a few years ago. I didn't need her to be bringing me down all the time.
She never like anyone I ever dated. She hated all my other friends and would never hang out with them. She always told me I was stupid. She was very judgemental and it got on my last never one night. I let her have it. I did not hold back at all. We haven't spoken since. That was almost 4 years ago.
If you want to keep this person in your life you need to develop a voice and tell her to knock her crap off. If she can't handle you growing a spine then drop her. Believe me friends are not that hard to make. Look at work and see if there might be anyone you could hang out with. All you have to do is look around you and see if there might be someone you can hang with. You can develop deeper friendships later if need be.
The most important thing is to be your own best friend and get rid of anyone who has nothing good to say. These people leach the life out of you one day at a time. The more power you give them, the more power they think they have. Take your power back and tell your friend to stuff it or get out of your life.

My mom is some what of a liberal JW. She doesn't shun me at all. She knows where her bread is buttered with her kids and it isn't on the JW side either. Both my brother and sister left Ohio and moved to Florida. I stayed in Ohio until January. Now it looks like I will be moving back. She is over the moon. I'll be in Cleveland again soon!! Yay!!

I think that because I never made a formal prayer like they say your supposed to before getting baptized. I never said yes to the questions they asked at the convention before I got dipped. I just went through the motions. I was doing it because I felt forced to. My mom totally agrees and told me she was sorry if she pushed baptism on me. Neither she nor my dad ever did. They would ask once in a while but it wasn't a force thing from my parents. It was everyone else that made me feel like I had to do it. My grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, but mostly it was my little sister. She is 2 and a half years younger than me and she was doing it, so I felt I had to also. I was getting asked all the time when I was going to do it. I was 19 years old at the time so well over the age of getting in the new system on my parents coat tails.
My mom agrees that my baptism is not valid. However that won't help me because I'm DA ed anyway. She did mention re-baptism someday when I'm ready. LOL Like that will ever happen. I would never get reinstated just to annul my so called baptism then do it again. LOL Keep dreaming mom!!!
I also told her I lied on my service reports. She said but you had to go out in order to be baptised. I said no you don't you just have to fill out the form saying you did.
