i know it's not the lightest of topics but the current news coverage of the pope's final hours made me wonder if i'd face things as calmly as he is reported to be doing.

i don't have his faith, or any faith anymore, but i can see how for a true believer that would be a source of strength.. the thing is, a lot of us thought we'd never die.

do you really comprehend what a truly massive mind-fuck that is?

Shunning in the 60's

as you know i just returned from visiting my great-aunt whom i hadn't seen in 40 years (she's still a jw).

i asked her if she shunned my mother when she was disfellowshipped in 1964. she said they society did not promote shunning at this time.

is this true?

The older you get the wiser you become but being young you still have more fun!

I'm 55 and I have a lot more fun than I did when I was 25, 35, 40. I was a dub until I was 42.

What Are Things Jehovah's Witnesses Won't Tell You???

prospects are told that jws are the "happiest people on earth".

I left the dubs when I was 42 and started college when I was 50. For this reason I have told many people that I didn't go to college when I was young because the dubs strongly discourage it. 99% of those I've told have been very surprised. It's something the dubs don't like to talk about to "worldly people."

Hi bikerchic, thanks for the reply. No, when I'm done I'll have a Master's degree in applied linguistics. I'm too old to go for a doctorate which does take 4 or 5 years. This is a two years program, althoguh lots of the students take 3 or 4 years to do it. I have just one class to finish this semester along with my thesis. I've already been offered a teaching job at a public univeristy here in Puebla so it's important that I finished ASAP.

candidlynuts, thanks for the encouragement. I'm doing it in Mexico and next week in "Holy Week," so there's no school. Hopefully I can get a lot done.
