"The God described in the old testament certainly does not seem very loving. It is very hard to try to relate him to the God of the New Testatment."
Do you mean the one that promises to send the four horsemen of the apocalyps(spelling?). War, Famine, Pestilence and Death. Very loving god.

God on Trial - #3 - Standard of Justice
by Amazing ineating fruit: when eve and then adam ate the fruit, they were given the death penalty and low productivity yield from their food growing efforts.
but, they did get a nice long life, somewhere around 900-930 years.. murder: cain murdered his own brother, abel.
cain whines to jehovah about how severe his punishment is, too great to bear, and jehovah consents to put a mark on him so that no one will harm cain.

What's really funny is that some of you will agree with the point of this post and then continue excusing the much more reprehensible acts of the god of the bible.

For those of us who still believe in God...
by MrMoe ini would like to know why you still beleive in god and what, based upon the bible, leads you to believe in god.. i likethe scripture that states the earth was a circle and hung upon nothing.
i also find that there is evidence the flood existed.
anybody know the stats of the "supposed" ark on mr. ararat?.

For all of you that believe in the god of the bible: you should read what the bible says about your "god." If after learning all the evils deeds the bible says he's commited and you still want to worship him, you have my deepest sympahty. There's no hope for you.

Silverleaf:
I apreciate your thoughts, but it all boils down to human explanations based on your culture and what makes you feel comfortable. Any "god" I were to worship would be rational.Warmest regards

Indoctrinated from birth
by JW72 inis it really expected that people from other religions listen to jw's with an open-mind?.
i saw a programme on t.v today about muslims and one bit showed the kids chanting, 'there is no other god to answer to other than allah'.
how can these kids possibly contemplate any other religion.

Good point. One religionists choose to ignore. They might have to investigate all other religions to see which one is the "truth." Much easier to stay brain washed.

"logical"
You're right, there are many positive things, and as soon as "god" decides to manifest him, her, itself in a rational way I'll be the first to become a believer. Your original sin explanation doesn't cut it for me. "I was innocent all along." If the god of the bible is "god" you can have him. -

"logical"
The way everything works in harmony. You're kidding, right? Why is there so much violence in nature? Harmony?
Why do human crave food that are bad for them? Harmony?
Why does that human body have so many flaws? Harmony?
Why do people kill each other? Harmony?I'm only interested in logical explanations, not in JW bullshit.

Would God really bother with such insignificance ?
by Simon inthere is a program on here at the moment called 'space' and last week was about the sheer number of stars.
for each grain of sand on every beach on the planet there are millions or billions of stars.. if there was a god, that would make us smaller than something minescule sat on an atom.
and yet they claim that he 'sent his firstborn son to die for us' (who incidentally created all this?)..

It's not an excuse. In fact, believing that a God can 'put right anything' allows people to do 'anything' whereas those that understand that life is precious tend to value it more.
That's too logical for the average religionist.

'everything is complete bullshit'.
you can do what the fuck you like, when you like, how you like.. the only rule is that you have to say 'i'm a fucking wanker' to yourself every morning.. .

Consider me a dyed in the wool member, although I may go apostate once in a while and forget to say the line about being a wanker.

Mommy: thanks for the encouragement. You'll be glad you started working on a degree. What amazes me is even though it's a lot of work it's not as hard as I thought it would be, and it's a lot of fun. I'm majoring in Spanish which is my first love, and I've always thought I was horrible in math, but I actually got an A in advanced algebra. Wonders never cease. It's really easier when you're older. I'm sure you'll have the same experience even if you're not as old as me.
