WATCHING THE WORLD GO DOWN
by You Know in"all things are continuing exactly the same as from creation's beginning" is the thinking attributed to those ridiculers of christ's presence.
because the sign of christ's invisible presence must be accepted on faith and faith is not a possession of all people, faithless ones are willfully blinded to the evidence that the system is nearing its hour of judgment.
in this the 2nd week of august 2001, the evidence steadily mounts that apostate ridiculers of jehovah's word are very badly mistaken and about to be spanked with a very large paddle.

TOWER OF BABEL
by bj inhave someone heared of athanasius kirchner (jesuit) who made intensive research on the tower of babel and came to the conclusion that it can't be true?.
if so, can you tell me more about the person or the name of his book before i start my research.

I would think that it would take far less than intensive research to establish that. From what I have heard, The Tower of Babel is a story that even the staunchest literalist doesn't take too seriously.

This is on record as one of the wackiest things I've ever read--including that loopy laughter typed in at the end.
Unfortunately, "LOL" will have to do, since there is not yet an accepted abbreviation for that long maniacal laugh that the mad scientists / super villains do in all the really bad movies. You know the kind of laugh I mean, it usually comes right around the time that their super giant death-ray laser is ready to be fired from their secret hollowed-out-volcano headquarters, and the mad scientist / super villain says somethig like "They said I was crazy, but now we'll see who has the last laugh - Bwahhhaaaa...haahaahaa...bwahahahahaha, hahahha..." ..(and so on, for several minutes).

30 and Out?
by Black Man in30 that seems to put jw's at a cross-roads?
i've known so many who have decided to abandon ship at either the age of 30 or either after 30 years of being baptized.

I think that there may be another reason that this is a critical time for many people. In most schools of psychology, the passage through the late 20's for most people is considered quite significant and marks a period known as "ego chill." This is when people become fully aware of and (hopefully) accept their own mortality. Before that, people know on a factual level that they will die some day, but after that phase they fully accept it. That is why a serious conversation with a 25 yo is much different than a conversation with a 30 yo. People 20-25 have a lot more in common with each other than they do with people who are 25-30, while people 30-35 are not all that different in this regard..
Anyway, the acceptance of one's mortality is certainly going to be very different for someone who has, until then, been in "the truth". They have to deal with the realities of life and death (consciously or not) and come to grips with the fact that they ARE going to die some day. Or, they have to put this reality out of their mind and delude themselves with the societies claptrap about living forever. Adding a few years to the process for having things come to a head, and the age of 30 (ish) seems likely to be quite pivotal for many who were raised in the organization.

Crop Circles ? (check out link and comment please)
by Big Jim inhttp://www.mufor.org/crops.htm .
i heard about this first on tv then began researching it.
pretty weird stuff check out the link and give your input.. thanks.

Why is it that when an EASY explanation, one which makes perfect sense (pranksters) is available, some folks still look for something LESS likely to explain things? Since the circles CAN easily be made by men, using very low-tech means, why look to the mysterious? If there was something about them which made the idea of making them by humans IMPOSSIBLE, it would be different. And I'm not talking about something like "energy vibrations" that some new-age, crystal waving, petchuli wearing pinhead claims that only they can detect from the circles. I mean something REAL.

There is nothing at all unusual about these, except for the fact that even after the creators come forward and admit they made them with ropes, planks, and ladders, the folks who want to find something mysterious about it still insist that it stems from some "otherworldly" source. And this is even when the pranksters have the entire creation process on video tape. They were all pranks - clever human creations.
The makers even have their own website: http://www.circlemakers.org

Well said, 6/9. I agree that the bible is at best a collection of interesting parables and myth, and when taken as such, is not likely to cause much harm. But to take it is true, inspired, and/or authoritative leads to nothing but trouble.
I personally do not believe that there is a God. There may be, but if there is, he isn't doing a very convincing job of making himself known. A real god could have provided some substantial evidence of his existance in the bible, in the form of REAL predictions and truths to be discovered, not the kind of vague, half-baked stuff that the likes of the WBTS can chew like cud over and over again, looking for whatever they want, and justifying the most outlandish claims with out-of-context statements made by people whose own track record is just as dismal.
And, no, I don't consider myself a Christian.

For Englishman & other Europeans
by Bendrr inok, favorite/most despised cars thread.. i'm a mechanic (undercar) in the states, and american mechanics for the most part really don't like most european cars.
the words saab, renault, and peugot will send most mechanics on an early lunch break that may last into next week or until the car leaves the shop.. a swedish person once joked about skoda cars to me in a chat room.
what do you call a skoda with twin pipes (dual exhaust)?
