Starting a collection of the Inexplicable JW Doctrines...
by AuldSoul ini am starting a collection of jw doctrines and practices that have no basis in the scriptures and (preferably) that the scriptures or secular history directly contradicts.
this isn''t a thread for arguing with scholar is he drops by.
i want as comprehensive a set as possible as part of a project i am working on, so even if you aren't sure of one, please toss it in the mix.

1ST Corinthians 14:34 "let the women keep silent in the congregations, for it is not permitted for them to speak, but let them be in subjection, even as the Law says. 35 If, then, they want to learn something, let them question their own husbands at home, for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in a congregation."

Luke 10:17 " Then the seventy returned with joy, saying: "Lord, even the demons are made subject to us by the use of your name."
Acts 15:4 "On arriving in Jerusalem they were kindly received by the congregation and the apostles and the older men, and they recounted the many things God had done by means of them. "These sort of come across as "Field service reports"

In my experience, territories are defined/divided by population, the number of people that live in a city, town, village. Does this help ?

The reason for not celebrating Christmas ?
How about the it being based on an obvious lie ? Or that December 25 was arbitrarily picked to be Christ's "birthday" ?
History Channel.com has some interesting information about Christmas.
That's the reason we didn't celebrate it then and the reason I still do not celebrate it today. I'm not alone as I have met other "born again" Christians that have rejected "Christmas"

What's your expierence at a DUB wedding/reception?
by stillAwitness ini'm invited to wedding/reception tomorrow (on christmas-naturally) only reason i'm going is because its my one chance to get new shoes, dress, the whole bit at my mother's expense (since she seems to think i will find my future middle-aged elder husband at one of these functions)
i definetly plan to buy one of those mini-bottles of seagrams and get buzzed of course.
who wants to listen to 10 different speeches from family and friends about "how wonderful this spiritual union is of so and so) yawn!

""I have never seen a public "You may now kiss the bride", Yuk..""
Boy, you must not have been at the same weddings I have. I have been to several where the brother performing the ceremony had to give a cough to break up that first kiss, including my own.
"" The family speeches are usually interminable""
I'm not sure what you mean by family speeches, never been to a wedding with such.
""Entertainment usually consists of family games , no worldly music""
This really tells me that we traveled in different crowds. Games, at a wedding ? No wonder you were bored. As for music, live band at ours and NO they were NOT witnesses. Others that I have been to have had D.J.'s, some of which had major investments in equipment and cases of CD's. As for food, well there I can agree with you. The food can be varible some really good some really terrible.

""Why? Elders with beards are allowed to give talks, but only in their own congregation. That's the rule in Ireland anyway. I'm pretty sure it's the same in England. I knew several elders who had beards.""
Not wanting to stir things up, but one of the things I constantly heard was "Jehovah's Witnesses are not permited to wear beards". It has appeared on this board as well as many others.
