  Thanks for discussing this with me and trying to have an open mind. I understand that it can be hard.

  As for your previous reply that listed Phologen, Josephus, and Justin Martyr, I did not list them and do not know who they are. Does that mean that you added to my list?

  As for Matthew, Mark, Luke and John they are also an account of Jesus' life.

  These other accounts are from those outside of Christianity and they are only confirming the accounts of the apostles. Regardless if you think that there should be more or not, you must agree that they support the evidence of the Gospels. These men were not fiction authors they were historians researching and printing facts as they found them. They all have one thing in common though, they were all pagans.

  How about the Old Testaments prophisies about him and how they were fulfilled with his birth from the line of David, and the sacrifice of the son, just as Abraham was to sacrifice his son, and his death, and God sending the Jews a king that they would reject just as they rejected Jesus. All of this was fortold in the Old Testament. How do you explain this.? Or do you maintain that Jesus did not exist?

  The Nero inscription does not use Jesus' name. I guess you could say that it is circumstantial evidence.

  Okay we have Matthew, Mark, Luke and John will you accept their testimony? Thallus did write a confirmation of the crucifixtion of Jesus and he also was wrote of the supernatural darkness, which really is more of a testimony in my opinion. It is one of the earliest historical records of the darkness.

  Flavius Josephus a Jewish historian (Antiquites of the Jews) wrote, Upon an indictment by leading members of our society, Pilate sentenced him to the cross."

  A Roman Government Inscription from the Reign of Nero that was found in the ruins of Marquofiae in the Roman province of Lusitania (ancient Portugal) that is dated to the reign of Emperor Nero who died in A.D. 68 reads: TO NERO CLAUDIUS CAESAR, AUGUSTUS, HIGH PRIEST, FOR CLEARING THE PROVINCE OF ROBBERS, AND THOSE WHO TAUGHT MANKIND A NEW KIND OF SUPERSTITION.

  larc, let's not get into the universe. The Bible says that the earth was already here Gen.1:2 "Now the earth was formless(void) and empty and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waves." NIV The Bible refers to the creation taking 6 days as to if that is literal or not I can't answer. I can handle God using some form of creation other than everything just appearring but I really do not believe that we came from monkeys. And also thank you Thomas Poole for commanding the spirits away from me. I think.

  Please explain these historical accounts. Cornelius Tacitus was a Roman historian he wrote:
  " to suppress therefore the common rumor, Nero procured others to be accused, and inflicted exquisite punishments upon those people, who were in abhorrence for their crimes, and were commonlly known as Christians. They had their denomination from Chistus (Christ), who in the reign of Teberius was put to death as a criminal by the procurator Pontius Pilate. "
  This is from "Annal of Imperial Rome."

  Tacitus confirms many details of the Gospels such as Jesus was executed as a criminal, Christians began in Judea and spread throughtout the empire, and their religeon derived from Christ. He verified the explosive growth of the new religion. (Annals XV 44)

  Lucian wrote "The Passing Peregrinus," in this book Lucian wrote the history of a well-known Greek traveller named Proteus, who met some followers of Jesus in the early Church. Lucian provided confirmation of many historical facts that are mentioned in the Gospels.

  A Syrian (pagan) named Mara Bar-Serapion wrote a letter from prison in the first century. He says,"What advantage did the Jews gain from executing their wise King?" This is independent pagan corroboration that Jesus was considered King of the Jews.

  Thallus a pagan wrote in his book in A.D. 52 about darknes covering the land at the time of Passover in A.D. 32, "Third History".

  I do not know how many confirmations that you need, but I have a few more. Most of these are from pagans if not all of them. Considering that most of the people of that time could not read or write, and this was 2000 years ago, and there were no printing presses or xerox machines, I think that this is a considerable amount of confirmation.

  I believe in creation, the Genisis version of creation. Like I said before, you could explain the big bang theory all day and I still would not understand it. I guess I should say believe it. How many times have you ever seen an explosion creating any kind of order? I just want to know how you make sense of it.

  As for Jesus, I'm sure or I guess that we all agree that he existed. So lets start from there. This question was really directed to Mommie Dark since she believes The Bible is a book of superstion. I would be happy to hear your belifs too. If you believe Jesus existed, who was he?

  From most of the topics and replies I have come to believe that most everyone here still believes in God and Jesus and The Bible. Recently on a thread I've been on I've discovered many do not. I want to know what Mommie Dark and others believe on the subject of creation and Jesus. Mommie Dark believes that The Bible is a book of old tribal superstitions, anyone else? How do you explain the big bang theory? You could explain it to me all day long, but I still could not understand how order can come from total disorder. The big bang theory only reinforces my belief in God. How can a big explosion out in space create life?

  Or, how about Jesus, how do you explain him. Who was he and why is he so important to so many people? How do you explain the Old Testament foretelling him before he was ever born. The Old Testament told of his birth, death, and resurrection. Some of these things are totally factual, how do you explain them away?

  this is probably a strange question, but how do you "pick" something else to study?

  i'm having a hard time just picking up the bible & reading it - but i'm terrified of picking up any "study material" from other organized religions to help.

  Dan,

  I do not defend the decision of God to take childrens live how can I? I don't understand either. I was only explaining the way I have come to try to understand why this might have happened. I believe these children were probably better off dying young because I believe they were saved from the destructive lives they would lead if they had lived. I believe they were not held accountable for anything and they will live eternally. I don't claim to know the mind of God. I also believe that He knows the future and the choices we will make before we do. I can't remember the quoate or who has that on their posts but I'm sure you've seen it. Something to the effect of if someone is a billion times older than you and a trillion times smarter how do you understand them. I believe that God loves you and me, and that is what is affecting me today and what matters today. One day I hope to know the answers to these questions.

  Mommie Dark, I think that I'm going to start a new thread that I'd like you to respon to. I would like to hear your views on creation and other things.

  brothers/sisters/co-inheritors to christ.
