  Partaking of the emblems at home - need thoughts/experiences please

  my husband and i will be partaking at home this year.

  could you please share your experiences or insights on how you partook at home?

  i have the wine and bread sorted.

  The first year that we were all out (2 years ago) we all got together and celebrated the memorial together. We all partook, which was a first for all of us since we were all born in. We all discussed the reasons that we knew that we should be partaking. It was a very nice celebration, it really felt like an evening meal that we all took together. We discussed Jesus' life and ministry and the hope that we all hope is there. We had three young children there and they all ate the bread and had a little sip of the wine. It was a very nice experience.

  Last year, we were not all able to meet up for the memorial, so, we did a conference call. We shared scriptures, prayed and partook of the emblems. We turned the lights down at our home and lit some candles. Had the bread and the wine. It was also a nice time. None of the celebrations have been very formal and we all say our piece (even us girls).

  We don't have anything planned yet this year but it has turned into a nice time to spend with the family.

  Hopefully, you will get the enjoyment out of it that we all have. It feels right to be partaking. The witnesses really play down Jesus and his importance and the benefits that his blood gives to all of us, not just a chosen few.

  Accepting my own mortality

  i dont know about you, but this is one of the most difficult issues of being a jw (at least for me).

  as we were living on a spiritual paradise (totally unreal), we used to believe everything the gb said without questions.

  i was not going to get old, or go to high school, or go to college or get married and the "big a" was going to finish the "wicked system" ... and them we were going to have a paradise earth forever.... .

  That has been one of the hardest things to deal with. Not so much my death but the death of loved ones. When I am dead the pain is over but due to the JW teachings, I have never had to learn how to deal with death. At least in other religions you learn to accept death. JW's teach that your loved ones will never die. Well, they lied and that has been a source of great sadness for me. I understand your pain TTRP.

  However, like Burn the Ships, I want to believe that there is something else after here. So, I do. Not that I don't appreciate this life. It is beautiful but because it is beautiful, I don't want it to end.

  How could an ex-Jw become Catholic

  i don't mean this to be offensive to any catholics in any way and believe that they can have true salvation unlike the jw.

  also, i know little about the in's and out's of practicing catholicism, as i have never had any interest in being one.

  regardless i am always surprised when an ex-jw says that they have found the real truth in catholicism.

  We went to a Catholic Mass for a funeral a few months ago and I was impressed with the services. It was a lot of praying, singing and renumerating of the promises that Jesus made to his followers. Not too long after that I went to my neighbors church to watch their kids in the Christmas play. (Assembly of God) I was completely turned off. It reminded me of attending a KH. The inside looked just like one. The preacher was the sort that tried to look at you until you looked away. Which I didn't. Tons of asking for donations and the participants weekly tithe. Afterwards, the congregation was cold and unfriendly. If I was looking for a church, which I am not, I would be much more prone to attend the Catholic Church. Just a side note, at least in the Catholic Church, there is plenty to look at to if you get bored of the sermon.

  Burn the ships,

  It was me. Actually, I bought the cigar for my husband because he likes them every once in a while. I wasn't very impressed with the taste. It is fun to be able to do it though without worrying that you are going to get into trouble.

  PRAYERS that you have endured.....

  in the course of our wasted time in the org we have all expierenced/ suffered through the ten minute closing prayers at assemblies/conventions.

  so many times there have been others that just couldn't escape our attention.

  humble wanna be's, pious glorified one's, and just out and out condemnatory oratories to the flock.

  There was one elder that would pray and end his prayer so funny. I laughed everytime. It is really hard to type out how he said it but he would say Jesus real long, Jeeeeesus, then he would same "name" a little less long and then amen real clipped. There were those stinking long prayers and we would time them. My brother in law would constantly say, Father this and that, Father, Father. He would say it probably ten to twenty times in a prayer. It drove me crazy.

  Well, the other day I actually puffed on a cigar. It tasted awful. And, I really like to say shit.

  Yes, there are things that I have done but only the organization would consider it wrong.

  i am new here and i have been reading a lot of stuff on this board.

  my parent's are both jws, i am still active and still believe i have the truth.

  i consider myself a moral person.

  I still say that there seems to be a lot of hate towards this religion, and yeah, I don't get it.

  Have you ever been in love? I know that you are only 19 but have you loved someone so much that you would give your life for that person? Did you eat, drink and live for that person? Believe that they loved you in return? If you have, now imagine that that person cheated on you, told lies about you, kicked you, raped you, turned your friends and family against you, took away your ability to get a job, made you go to prison, maybe even by their lies they made one of your beloved family members die. Now, does your heart ache with pain? Do you still love that person?

  I have always been told that there is a thin line between love and hate. Most everyone on here at one time believed and loved in some way or another that religion. I, for one, was raised in it, quite school at sixteen and pioneered for years, married a pioneer ministerial servant, and even considered missionary work with my husband, I loved that place. Then the scales started lifting from our eyes and we saw the lies. We saw that we were cheated on, raped, used for their purpose and then cast aside. So, the love that we had was turned to hate. Just the same as if the love of your life turned on you and did all the things that JWs did to the majority of us on here. We have all lost close friends, family, jobs and experienced a lot of pain because of being a JW and that is just scratching the surface of what has been taken from us. If you stay on here and read the stories, your humanity will make you start to question such a place.

  Please go back and read AK-Jeff's post on this thread, he put it so well.

  On the other points of discussion on here and in defense of myself - It pains me too much to think of the hurt that people are going through everyday. I can't even watch the news anymore because it makes me break down and cry. The last time I watched the news there was a story of man that thought his little girl had a demon in her and beat her to death to get the demon out. I cried and put my blinders back on and try to pretend that those things don't really happen. You laugh at things so that you can pretend that maybe it didn't really happen. It might seem crass but that is how some deal with it.

  Well, I hope you continue to read here and learn more about the JWs and get out before it hurts you too badly.

  '' i don't hand in ''service reports'',attend maybe 3 meetings a month,ain't signed up for the ministry school and will never attend any convention or the ''book study.

  Wow, so many interesting stories.

  I left in August 2005. Stopped cold turkey. Went to the bookstudy, commented, got in the car, went home and told my husband that that was the last meeting I would ever go to. We had an elder stop by once six months later. He had been riding his motorcycle and decided to stop by. We told him why we left, UN association, he called us apostates and since that time no one speaks to us. Turns the other way when they see us coming. The rumor is that we are apostate. We would like to DA but my husband still has family in. So just faded at this point. Celebrated christmas this year (lights and all) and expected some sort of backlash but nothing. We must be off of the radar.

  MAgnesium and my migraine

  well, first off, to you whom suggested magnesium to me, thank you (i think) .

  my headaches have been a constant source of misery for me since my last desperate post regarding them.

  but i did start on the magnesium treatment.

  I feel your pain and wouldn't wish migraines on my worst enemy. You sound like your migraines are more severe than mine but I thought that I would share one of my treatments with you. Like you mentioned I seem to be forewarned that a migraine is coming but sometimes I don't get the warning. So, if it gets beyond a certain point this is what I do: Get in the shower and turn the water to as warm as you can handle it. Relax in the warmth, then turn the water over to cold. Stand in it and shiver for as long as you can handle and then turn it back to warm. I do this five or six times in a row. It is deeply relaxing and seems to take the edge off of the migraine, sometimes to the point that I don't have to go to bed to sleep it off. I know that this sounds rather unenjoyable but it really seems to do the trick and is well worth the momentary discomfort.

  I hope that the magnesium treatments lessen your migraines.
